Best place to raise my children?

Post » Sat Mar 22, 2014 4:47 am

So after bringing peace to Skyrim I finally decided to adopt kids. I had planned to move them into Lakeview manor once I had finished constructing it. But during construction I had a giant attack, a wolf pack, and three different bandit groups show up and start trouble. So I started thinking, would it be better to just let the kids live in one of the walled cities? My character is also not married, so the kids wouldn't have anyone watching them when I go out adventuring.

The cities happen to have guards, and walls. Mostly the walls.

If/when you adopt kids where do you normally have them life?

My family lives with me In Solitude, big walls and lots of guards. Places for them to run around and play, it is a pretty safe city plus it seems like a place that they could grow up and be able to do a ton of stuff from join the Bard's College to get into politics if they wanted. All in all I personally suggest Solitude, nice place.

I couldn't read a word of that. But cute writing nonetheless! :hugs:

That's all part of the Hearthfire DLC, bandits and creatures won't attack your home if you live inside the walls of a city. So pick your favourite city and go with that.

But they won't raise, ever. They're stuck being dwarfs for the rest of their infinite lives.

Windhelm is a good place to raise kids. Rolff is a great role model.

Riften or markarth. Trust me, these are great places to bring up a family :P

Okay, enough joking. Why not bring em up in solitude?

I doubt anyone has spent more than a few in-game years in Skyrim. If they have I'd love to see it! :P

Lol, in all seriousness the two cities I am most uncomfortable with having my family in are Markarth and Windhelm. I am worried my child would fall off of something and plummet to their death and I am worried that they would just freeze to death in Windhelm cause that place looks psychotically cold.

Yea that is one reason why I don't like markarth but...the main reason? Forsworn :ahhh:

I'm new so I don't know what an opproprite answer should sound like but I say you raise them in one of the house added on by Hearthfire but if you don't have that then raise them in proud spire manor in Solitude

Solitude is probably the best city to raise children in.

Riften is corrupt has a high crime rate. Markarth is corrupt and gets attacked by Forsworn. Windhelm is racist. Whiterun has Braith... and I'm not sure if the house is big enough. I don't see any big problems with Solitude.

Lakeview Manor is probably not a good idea. It gets hit by bandits quite frequently.

Lakeview is the purdiest family spot but as you've seen it does have it's dangers...that's why you have Rayya as a housecarl and find another warrior to be your steward, then you bring home Bran from Fort Dawnguard, hire a carriage driver and equip your kids with daggers. ;)

Solitude is probably the safest.

You sir have lost your imagination in your cold dark tower surrounded by cold dark Orcs :P

The Dark Brotherhood. With a whole gang of assassin aunts and uncles I'd say the child would be pretty well protected.

If you're a member of the Thieves Guild, Riften is a great place to live. Brynjolf is great with kids.

9 out of 10 times I have my family live in Lakeview Manor in Falkreath. BUT.....

#1- My wife is usually a follower

#2 My steward is usually Lydia or Jordis

#3 I always have my housecarl Rayya protecting everything

So that being said, between the 3 right there, 4 if you include me, no bandit or giant attack would really do anything.

But like the others said, any of the walled cities are fine. I'd probably go with Whiterun or Solitude. I seem to see most other kids running around there.

My kids live in Solitude. I moved them there due to the impending Stormcloak attack in Whiterun and haven't moved them back since. The house is spacious, the town is spacious, and there's at least 3 other kids to play with.
