Best place to start up a base.

Post » Wed Oct 06, 2010 1:06 pm

Back in Fallout 3 I really enjoyed setting up a little base where I would stack my weapons and equipment on shelves and other places and would use them as places to sleep. For example, Operation Anchorage's underground base and the Robot Repair Center with the secret room in it.

So, what kinds of places can everyone suggest for me to set up at which would seem secretive and good for role-playing purposes. Oh! and ofcourse, a place where I can sleep and leave my weapons at without them dissapearing.

Very start of the game....the house closest to the road (where that explosives guy sleeps) or the schoolhouse.
Bit later...the hotel room in Novac, which you can either rent or you'll get for free after doing the quest that enables you to hire Boone + any Novac quest that raises your rep to Accepted. No campfire in Novac, however, if you care about having one.
When you get to the Strip - the Lucky38.

Beyond that....well, mostly, anywhere you want where containers/beds aren't marked as being owned by someone else (not red). Such as one of the many 'shacks' or whatever.

i haven't found any places as cool as the robot repair center, FO3 had a few cool places like that, like you pointed out, the outcast base etc. i just stay in goodsprings in vicotrs shack, its cozy, i have lived in different places on playthroughs like lucky 38 or the tops or novac, i was hoping there would be a place like the robot repair center but i haven't found one, and i've been looking, they could of made some place like that, that tool company place mr house wants you to go to could of been like that but instead its real crappy inside and no beds but it had potential, i use to like the bridgetower in rivet city in FO3 but there just aren't those type of places in new vegas, however the followers safehouse is pretty cool. but i usually like other people being around where i live, and its kinda isolated but its nice inside and well lit.

If you don't mind having to kill a respawning crazy robot every now and then.

My first playthrough, I used the Highway Patrol station. Safe location with several containers that don't respawn (ammo box and firehose box) that are both conveniently located next to an ammo bench and a crafting bench. For the craftable items, I stashed them in the firehose box at the Emergency Services Railyard. Campfire is located about four steps away.

This time, I've been using the Doc's house for everything, and the Railyard again for the same thing.

Think I'm gonna relocate to the Abandoned Shack near the Yangtze Memorial. Lots of radscorpions that spawn in the gulley west of it, great for harvesting their glands.

Harpers shack, it is just a little southwest of outpost charlie. (right next door to the deadwind caverns, so don't say hi to the neighbors) It has a bed, a reloading bench, workbench and a campfire outside. There is a prickly pear plant right outside, and plenty of storage lockers. The only thing missing is a clean water source.

The NCR gives you a Safehouse after the first mission you do for the Brotherhood (as long as you don't kill the Ranger).

It's good because it's in the center of the map so it's centrally located.

The Followers' safehouse has the best view, so that's what I use.

I have recently just relocated to the NCR safehouse from my novac room I can't remember how I got the key . But after the recent patch you'll be able to pick up ranger veteran armour (off the front of the Game ) from one of the shelves , plus theres lots of containers and about 8 beds .

NCR or BoS safehouses are the best.
