All of the different online retailers seem to offer different pre-order perks.. I've seen caravan, tribal and a third one I can't remember the name of, that has an armoured vault 13 jumpsuit. Has anyone got any opinion on which of these will be best/most fun? Or heard of any others?

I like the Classic Pack because the Vault 13 Canteen is the only item that will probably remain useful throughout the game.

but there are canteens in the game, it's just that one has "vault 13" written on it.

Just get whichever one you fancy the most. I got the caravan pack, since I figured a courier would look like a caravan driver. Whatever floats your boat, that is why there is choice

I've got the Mercenary Pack coming on Friday as I pre-ordered at Gamestation (only brick and mortar games shop in my locale).

i pre ordered at gamestop,mostly because of the original vault 13 stuff,but also its the retailer i trust most

I recall reading somewhere that there aren't other canteens, making it the only truly unique pre-order bonus.

There are no canteens as themselves but there are armor sets that have a canteen as a part of the.
Like the Vault 13 canteen is the only one that appears as "Canteen" in the inventory but some armors might have a + canteen effect on them.

I pre-order classic pack, because I think Fallout 1/2 were better than 3. I loved the Vault Dweller.

I pre-ordered the Xbox version from Amazon just because it was the easiest way to get it and I had a $20 coupon to use on a video game purchase. If I want the Classic Pack I'll just mod my gamesave.

Yes and no, for example the Mercenary Grenade Rifle has a faster reload rate than the standard Grenade Rifle and the MGR can not be found in game. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Mercenary%27s_grenade_rifle

Also, I expect that the grenade launcher will run out of ammo early in the game.

I hope not, but then I only got the Mercenary Pack as it was the only viable option for me. I won't be investing a lot in explosives, so it will be my "oh crap I've bitten off more than I can chew" backup gun early on till I get some proper hard hitting small guns.
