Best race for an assassin?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:52 am

On my next playthrough, I want to play an evil assassin type character. He will use archery, daggers, and a bit of magic. What's the best race for this? Don't say Dunmer though, I already played a Dunmer and want to try something new.

I tend to use a Khajit for stealthy assassin types purely for the night vision racial ability, which helps sneaking around in the dark. Just my opinion :)

khajiit or wood elf. if your going to use magic for an assassin and want to role play, illusion is always a good one to have.

that depends are you a bow assassin or a dagger assassin? bosmer are the best ranged assassins and khajiit are the best close quarters assassins.

I was going to be a bit of both. Use daggers when I can sneak up on them, otherwise hide a little ways back and kill them with arrows.

im finding night vision utterly useless, be it middle of the night in the woods or dungeon, no need for it at all, i have used it once to see the effects and that was all...

Does it matter what race you'll choose? the races are cosmetic in skyrin. Skills are going up at the same rate what ever race you'll choose and makes the bonus of every race pointless.

Same. Why is every house fully lit at night? Why aren't people going to sleep with the lights off? Maybe with just the light of the fireplace?

Also why does every kid never sleep. I go into a House at night and the kid is walking around while the parents sleep. Very odd.

Agree that night vision does not appear to be as useful in Skyrim as it was in Oblivion. Dungeons and houses seem much better lit now.

Go for useful abilities/powers, high elf, orc or breton. Those are the 3 I value the most,

OP. Seriously don't even bother. You can barely kill anyone and the stealth mechanics are a joke. I've tried my hardest to grit my teeth and bare all of the mood killers I've experienced but I just can't do it any more. Waste of tiem even trying. Er what?

Playing a thief/assassin type seems to work fine.. you can't kill of quest important npc's.. but then why would you?

You have to be SO bad at this game to say this. Seriously. Stealth is great and powerful. You can kill almost everything without any problems (when you take archery too, forget the "almost").

You must not be playing stealth right, because if anything, stealth is very powerful in Skyrim. I have my sneak high enough, combined with muffle-enchanted boots and vampirism, and I can literally sneak in front of some characters in broad daylight.

Using a bow for the sneak attacks and making distraction shots can be utterly devastating, and you never have to worry about going toe-to-toe against some of the tougher creatures if you play it smart. Most things can typically be dead before they ever have a chance to find you.

Stick to the shadows and play to the strengths of your character.

As for best race, Bosmer or Khajit are traditionally the best choices, but I tend to go with a Breton so that I can balance it out better with some magic resistance and the magic skills. I soften up my targets with arrows if I don't outright kill them, and then I burn their stupid faces with fire from my hands. It is awesome.

I have over 70 hours logged on master difficulty as a bow/sneak toon. I can stealth kill anyone, and can fight dragons easly. Maybe assassin is just not your cup of tea?

I've been playing a Khajiit, and have been very pleased. Night vision has been helpful if some places, mainly to check corners for loot in poorly lit dungons, and to take long shots at night with a bow.
