Best race overall?

Post » Wed Aug 20, 2014 4:49 pm

So in your opinion. Taking into consideration of Strength, magic capabilities, sword, smithing, intelligence, culture, offensive capabilities, defensive capabilities etc. (And anymore things that you think should be considered)

What race in elder scrolls takes the cake as the 'best overall' race in these aspects?

I voted Altmer. They are the 'High' elves for a reason. They are superior in their intelligence, magical ability, culture, and more.

But considering the Skyrim fanbase, It's probably going to end up as Nord #1 because SKAHRAAM FUHR DA NAWDS! and Altmer at the bottom.

Khajiit get an honorable mention.

Since your question asked the broad question of best race overall "in elder scrolls," my answer is Breton. Bretons are especially overpowered in Morrowind and Oblivion, but even the smaller 25% magic resistance in Skyrim gives them an edge over the other races.

Just so people know who I voted for it's...

well, the redguards.

They are simply extremely powerful in battle and are known to be the most well gifted swords-man/warriors in Tamriel. They are also known to have beaten the Aldmeri Dominion twice I believe aswell as hold out against the alligned forces of Imperials, Nords, and Bretons for a substancial time before being overcombed thanks to the red dragon. So I believe they are deserve honorable mention, even if they seem to not be the most popular.

Though they aren't known to be the best mages I believe their ability with the sword makes up for that.

Well... not to rain on the redguard love parade since I actually like them a lot as well, but...

They're a bit overhyped. They didn't beat the Dominion, they simply held them off long enough that the Dominion gave up. Impressive, but largely thanks to the legion that stayed behind against orders to help fight the dominion back when they overran Hammerfell.

The other comment about holding off against Imperials Nords and Bretons is a bit off, since back then, there was just cyrodiilic Nords and Bretons. But, they indeed did hold off for a good while, only losing fully because half of them sided with the empire.

But their most impressive feat people mention is when they took Hammerfell in the beginning from the other elves and humans fighting over it, except that the forces were small, because Hammerfell was barely populated since they couldn't handle the harsh environment, and they did this with a surprise attack from their entire warrior class...

But Redguards despite that are impressive. They sunk their own continent after all, and even fought amongst themselves just to decide who would have the honor of leading the slaughter of the left handed elves... bad ass.

My favorite is Nords though. They have some of the most powerful magic in the lore with the most varied and interesting effects. That being the thu'um. (Not counting Dwemer magicks, which are unknown to us unfortunately.) They defeated an enemy supposedly more intelligent and powerful than they were and took their land back after just the destruction of their one city, and their lore is so out of there and strange, its hard not to love. Like 911th cow, and all those weird ass names the companions had.

I know you weren't talking about why we like them, but I felt I should mention it. They did manage to defeat a combined Redguard and Breton force over Dragonstar, and they defeated the dragons. They had the first human Empire over Bretons and Dunmer, and they've had the first dragonborn and shezzarine.

Burd, Nordic Captain of the guard in Nordic Bruma, was so badass, that we had to ask him to stop closing gates so much so that the enemy could summon their great gate. So much for the mighty Daedra.

But if we're going to argue over credentials, the Akaviri are likely the most powerful.

Breton.

Not only my favorite race, but that 25% magic resistance is usable on pretty much every character and build. In addition, one can also can the Atronach Stone, for 50% magic resist, then with enchants one can reach pretty much 100% resistance toward spells.

Plus, Dragonskin is reaaaallllyyyy overpowered.

Cool cats, but making your entire race dissapear into your own experiment kinda stains the resume.

Orcs! Those stubborn, adaptive fools.

But being more serious, each race is pretty awesome in their own right.

Their god did manage to kill the Nord's god for Auri-El. Pretty impressive, even if he did lose to Boethia. And even though that act just helped Lorkhan's plans for the forming of Mundus. But still, he did kill him.

I voted Orcs since I'm just judging which ones are my favorite. Hard to pick between them and Khajiit.

i believe there is no best race

their racial abilities tend to be useful early in the game and at low level but once you reach level 20 or higher the value of their racual abillity diminishes fast

even the breton magic resistance since all resistance is capped at 80 %

the abilities of the beast racess to be honest arelaughable in the vanilla game

example a kahjit night vision ,,,,,, for 60 seconds per day ?????????? what are these pussies doing the rest of the night

aegonian underwater breathing really if there was any real use for it yes , but there isn t

overall unless you are metagamming and want the perfect dps 3 digits behind thedecimal yeah racial stats are of some importance , but where is the dun in that

Dunmer are my personal favourite. They've got a very interesting culture, they share a homeland with netch*, and they have the best gods ever. Or at least, they used to. Azura needs to die in a fire.

*Netch are awesome. There are only three beings who are better than netch.

Khajiit. For one, with the multiple different forms they have the widest array (giant beserker khajiit, giant cats you can ride into battle, the ohmes which are basically wood elves with tails). They're also fast, clever, and adapt super quickly to change.
