I'm with Korr, doesn't matter what your character does you will loose interest if you don't find them interesting. That I think is the back-bone of Role Playing. You can hate or love the character as long as you find them and what they do interesting.
That said, one of the most interesting characters I had, ran through my least favorite quest-line, http://i.imgur.com/yhGEzQw.jpg was a Bard/ Assassin... With the Mod "Become a Bard", she played her lute in every Inn, including mod'd in ones... She took "jobs", but didn't go strait to them, no.. the point was to have a reason to be in the area where the job took place,... so She did her rounds, when she got to the area that the job was in she did the job and then kept going on her rounds til she got back to near The DB hideout...
She was based on Jack Higgin's book Solo.. I often do that, the character's personality or the whole story might be based in a book or idea from a book.. movie or just an idea that seemed interesting at the time.
