Walking towards a nonmapmarker cave with 2 dead bodies. I hear a growl and turn to the right. A giant sabercat prowls from behind the rocks down to the left side of the cave. These guys are like Velociraptors with their traps and all... now if only i can find a kitchen with some shiny surfaces...

Yeah I learned this the hard way aswell...if you see bodies lying around outside a den or cave, chances are their killer is watching you.

There was one inparticular cave, that was really scary for me. Seems I jumped 4 times, that is the only time I was scared in the game.

I was looking around this dark cave, not really sure where to go. I came to a dark corner and out jumped a skeever...of all things to scary me it was a skeever.

Ninja dragons. I have had a few land right beside me with no roar, no swooping, no noise...nothing. Turn around and WOOOOAH! Dragon right in your face.

I did also freak out for a bit when the haunted house in Maraketh started going all poltergeist on my ass.

Oh god the skeevers... It's simply the noise they make... so loud.

I've also panicked on occasion in dungeons when a draugr has popped out of a coffin behind me, particularly when i've been consciously weaker than I should be for the enemies that seem to be popping up.

First time running through a Nordic crypt. I see a loot chest and head for it. Suddenly, *CRUMBCRCKK* "ZOMG A ZOMBIE D;"

Draugr, however, aren't as scary as the Oblivion zombies. I think it's the sounds...they're cooler, but not scarier (thank gawd).

First time at a Dwemer ruin when I was looking at those "pipes" where the tech-spiders roll out from. Suddenly a spider attacks me from the side and I actually dropped my controller...

Wasn′t the manliest thing, but hey, I hate em spiders :P

Best ever for me was actually in Morrowind.

First time I encountered a vampire I thought he was just a random dude wandering around in this crypt. I walked up behind him to talk and he turned around and screamed at me, shining his flashlight-eyes in my face and I damn near fell out of my chair.

OH LAWD I am with you brother!

In Skyrim though, I shouldn't spoiler... But I'm just gonna say "bone dragon"....

I was in Labyrinthian(sp) and i just cleared a whole room, my health meter being very low, but I decided not to use a potion thinking I was safe for the time being for my health to regenerate then I turned a corner up a staircase and a skeever jumped right at me!

Only two I can think of:

1) Lydia showing up out of nowhere after getting stuck somewhere at the entrance of the cave. Seeing that heavily armed and armored form rushing up at my frail Khajiti butt (playing stealthy on Expert and my Light Armor skill is pathetic since I rarely get hit) from a direction I thought was safe made me literally jump and start fumbling for my axes.

2) A Skever. Never even saw the damn thing until I hear a noise over my shoulder and turn around right into TEETH. That gave me a bigger jump than any undead, dragon, or spider I've seen thus far.

Scariest moment for me. I was a pretty low level and fighting a werewolf. After finding out they're ridculously strong by dying 5 or 6 times. I decided to run away when my save loaded. Just when I thought I was safe, I turned around to see the werewolf right behind me. My heart skipped a beat as I jumped in the air and dropped my controller when it one-shotted me.

Mostly it's wolves and what-not who sneak up on me that make me jump. Traps in dungeons will as well. Depends how 'into' the game I am. It's funny :)

I was approaching a body-strewn overhang I'd seen before - and there was nothing there the first time - but this time, there was a roar and a troll stood up and shouted at me. He didn't want visitors. That didn't make me jump but was one of those little "ah!" moments.

And the surprise large dragon-shaped shadows that swoop over you sometimes. Then the roar and the THUD! as it lands close-by....or just envelopes you with fire and flies around some more.

Walking up to the Throat of the World.
Spoiler
I was trying to hug the mountain because what little path there is slopes seriously downward, and a wispy thing zooms up. I didn't trust myself to go backward even a teeny bit.
I tried going 3rd person for half a sec, that was almost worse.
My hands were sweating like crazy that whole walk up.
And I do mean walk.

Normally stuff like these doesn't make me jump, but there was definitely a time where I did. I had Marcurio hired as a follower and eventually his dumb AI gets caught up on rocks or something so I just say whatever and leave him. Fast forward by like 20 minutes or so and I came into a dwarven ruin. Atmosphere is all creepy and everything, and as I open the first room I proceed slowly and scout everything out. Good. Nothing in here, now let's turn around and ..[censored]!!! Marcurio decided to teleport right behind me, and my heart literally jumped. I dunno, just the thought and feeling knowing you're completely safe and you totally scouted out an area and find out no one is around and them bam, right in your face. Needless to say he was fired (pun intended) after that.

Having read through this thread, it seems the number one scare in Skyrim is the skeever. I'll admit, they always get me too.. it's when I"m sneaking, I swear they're immune to sneak. I'll be all sneaky thinking nothing can see me then BAM!! 3 frackin skeevers outta nowhere

Sabre cats have scared the crap out of me on more than one occasion lol

Pressure plate traps have gotten me more than once too. Most of the time I am looking for the, but sometimes I am so immersed I don't think about them, until I step on one I didn't see. Having a metal-gate of spikes flung in your face with a loud crack will wake you up. At least they never kill me lol
