Best-Selling Novel Based on Tamriel

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:18 pm

I seem to recall that there was a best-selling novel written that was basedon Tamriel? Did I imagine that? I cannot find any reference to in the cyberscape using my feeble boolen searching skills.

I don't think it's best-selling, but there is one. The Infernal City.

I recommend waiting for the sequel - it's a two-parter, with a cliffhanger at the end.

Also, it's a decent book, but I've read better.

I concur

It's good if you're interested in the events following oblivion, though i don't like the style the author presents it, but it's an enjoyable read.

If you are any type or kind of Elder Scrolls fan, if you care at all about what Tamriel will be like in the next game, if you like books, YOU should get the Infernal City.

There are some awesome Oblivion fiction threads on the gamesas forum. My personal recommendations are;

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1033100-chronicles-of-buffy-the-bowgirl/ Beautifully written story of a skinny blond Bosmer

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1038084-maxicals-journey/ Humor and dark adventure.

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1010914 Hilariously funny.

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1047284-teresa-not-a-hero/ Lyrical and as lovely as the game itself.

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1070342 Fresh look at the game quests

Then there's my own humble effort

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=862718 Adventures of the only child in Cyrodiil

There are also several awesome fictions based on Morrowind.

I enjoyed the book. Not in the same way I enjoy reading Tolkien, but I enjoyed it in a TES lore-nerd kind of way.

Unfortunatly, I would see better with false eyes (somehow). My eyes svck. Won't be able to get glasses for quite some time. Unfortunatly again, there's no "resize text" option in the book. I'll get it eventually. Everything I know of it is from the forums.

I really loved the book personally. It's no Tolkien or Stephen King. But you can't really beat them can you? :foodndrink:

I honestly didn't like the book. The only thing I understood was this girl and this Argonian get trapped on the Infernal City, which destroys everything and devours souls. Some prince comes to rescue them after a trip through Elsweyr. Then stuff happens and they escape, I think. I don't really know because everything that happens is so boring it's not even funny. Plus they kill a lot of Argonians. Argonians, to me, are very sacred.

I think the book would have been a lot better with one change. Instead of "Greg Keyes" it should have said "Richard A. Knaak" - now there's a guy who knows how to tell a fantasy-based video game story. He's written numerous books based on Blizzard games - Warcraft series, Diablo series, and Starcraft series.

A little spoiler-y don't you think, though it is kind of obvious. If you really care about the lore, get the book, if not, wait for the second one and read both. The cliffhanger is definitely that... a cliffhanger. I actually wasn't sure what happened and some of the characters were not even mentioned at the end, so anything could be happening.

I understood the book, but im familiar with the lore of TES more than.. I would say most people (as are, probably, everyone on this forum). The book was short... too short really to cram so much in. I would say if you havent read it yet, wait for the sequel. as an aside i wouldnt look forward to TESV until th next comes out.

I recommend the book, but not at full price. The OP might be able to get it through interlibrary loan; ask at a public library or a university library. Keyes is a better author than "The Infernal City" indicates. I'm halfway through his four-novel series that begins with "The Briar King", and they're page-turners. There's even a character briefly in "The Briar King" who's a lot like Alessia, the mage-queen Virginia Dare (yes, the grown Virginia Dare who vanished with the colony of Roanoke in our reality.)
