Best of the little-known gems?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:20 pm

Speaking of Cliffworms; Are you still there Keeper? The Imps are about to lock up. Also, your minions demand cable!

I am afraid the Keeper messed up the folder structure of every custom resource and that, as such, the trolls in the workshop never had the motivation to re-organize everything since every resource had to be pointed a new folder path.
As such, the Keeper has the closed its doors for now, preferring to conquer new realms.

I don't think this one has been posted. http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24724, much easier to find the spell you are looking for and you can setup a custom page with the spells you use most.

Here's a couple of my favorite gems, a few of which I only found on my most recent re-install a month ago.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5392 - This very simple mod just adds a lot of depth and character to the miscellaneous scraps of paper littered throughout the game world. I find it 100% necessary, especially when used in conjunction with Oblivion XP in which you gain experience for reading things.

It's little gems like these that make these sorts of threads worthwhile. Thanks for bringing it up.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8158, something Corepc released several years ago:

What this plugin does is modifies game settings to allows more npc in combat and actors in a complex scene. NPCS in combat is 20 by default this is raised to 30 - this allow more NPCS to be in combat!!! Actors in a Complex Scene - This setting allow more Actors to work within a scene - Could be any NPCS!!!

There are now 4 to choose

30/40 - MassAi
30/30 - Mass Ai -30
40/40 - Mass Ai -40
50/50 - Mass Ai -50

Mart's increases it, too, but not up to 50, so if you have Mart's set with a regular spawn and throw in a few traveling NPC mods, you could end up with NPCs standing around doing nothing on the road or in the wilderness. This takes care of that.

NOOOOOOOO! OOOOOOO! Everyone please watch this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=CA&hl=en&v=sHCnQM9yrdU And then join me in mourning the passing of a mod that had the potential to be the greatest thing ever in the history of stuff :o  :( I'm serious, and I love DKII that much. A moment of silence, if you please.

That said, I am loving all of the little addons you guys are using and sharing here :D I realize that at this point, the op has grown quite large. So I will be sorting it into categories for easy reference, hopefully soon. /sleepy Immortal

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17254 Not sure if anyone has mentioned this one or not, but it's a pretty neat little addition. I haven't actually installed the main quest portion but I have used the resource.

I'm really fond of Mimics, too. The first time I used it, I promptly forgot all about it and then nearly screamed aloud the first time I tried to open a Mimic.

Wow, that's a good one. This thread is really useful - I'd never seen at least 75% of these.

Mimics! is great, but I found myself picking Shezrie's Villages over it, as there is a slight conflict with Ravenview, although now that I think about it, a little liberal use of "disable" should fix it.

I'm so happy that somebody decided to necro this thread before me :P I was totally going to update, then got swept away with school and job stuff. But I digress. I have updated the op, hopefully allowing easier viewing. A lot of mods overlap in terms of function, so the categories are rather broad at the moment. I also added this awesome cosmetic touch; http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=12626. Anyone who uses magic should at least give it a try. I will attempt to add more specific categories in the near future. Lastly: Tealpanda, I responded to your search query on page 3 somewhere. And I insist that everybody watch the aforementioned Dungeon Keeper videos, then poke Cliffworms with a stick :poke: R.I.P Oblivion Keeper :violin: Now we have that out of the way, I wanna see more gems!

That's like the third time someone as suggested 'Mimics!', despite it being one of the first mods in my original post  Anyways, I've updated the op again, this time providing a much more specific classification for all the mods. Also added this; http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14750 It's a little-known mod by the one and only Skyranger. And I can say from personal experience that it's hella fun :D

Wow, this list is very nice! I already use a few of these (Com's Torches, Conduit Magic, Ambient Town Sounds, etc), and now have a couple others to try AND a new entry for my List of Stealth Mods. Thanks for starting/maintaining this! Anyway, here are a few of the more gem-like mods I find myself using:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8927
Nice little addition to the weather system; I use it with Enhanced Weather

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16533
For as simple as this is, I consider this to be one of my favorite visual mods; makes absolutely every daytime screeny look better AND the game itself benefits to boot :P

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22795
New, nice clutter, how could you go wrong? Plus it's II implemented; booyah

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4574
Somewhat self-explanatory

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27825
A lovely retexture set if you don't mind occasionally being blinded by an urn

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4429 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14596 update
Because I need three alcohol texture replacers :)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9276
Again, self-explanatory

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4354
Because sparkly is better!

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16704
Don't know if this counts as obscure, but I hear people looking for this kinda thing all the time, so clearly not everyone has it :P
Anyhoo, it lets you know what mod any item/spell/character/whatever is from, and tells you if containers are safe for storage.

Garak's Staff Replacer - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1909 - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2221 - http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2425
I hated using staffs until I got these

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2909 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27739
Add a dripping-wet shader to the player, NPC's, and enemies whenever they are or were recently in the water or in the rain. I actually recently stopped using this mod because if you're wearing something that already has a shader (enchanted armor, for instance), that shader will be replaced with the wet shader while you are wet. Still, nice addition, and great for screenies.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=2946
New wines (integrated into II)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7693
Nice looking clutter, implemented into the leveled lists AND II

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22653
Gives you a reason to care about what you wear. I recently stopped using this because I felt it affected performance, but enjoyed the mod.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28012
Definitely a lost gem (148 downloads???), this adds gloves to match vanilla mage robes to the game, AND integrates them via script.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27527
Best looking book replacers, in my mind, and not nearly enough downloads.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7155
I only really use this mode because it adds stuff to II, BUT it is sorta cool in that it adds new clutter items and stuff :P

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8711
Adds lightning SFX indoors

and finally, I'm going to plug myself here (I know, I know, I'm sorry)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25982
Adds two new suits (each) to the Golden Saint and Dark Seducer Armor/Helmet/Shield leveled lists and makes all Saint and Seducer armor playable

I have discovered in the course of typing this that I have a both clutter and texture replacer fetishes... hmmm...

Anyhoo, yeah, add what you like from this, and keep up the good work ;)

Hey all, here's a few more little tweaks and baubles that have weaseled their way into my load order:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4065 - For those of us who need a little more D&D in our game.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8024 - This was the very first Oblivion mod I ever downloaded. I've never even used it as a home for any of my characters, but I do love stumbling upon it by accident. It has a tendency to just pop up out of nowhere. The quest to find the tower is a nice little brain-teaser as well.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9086 - Adds a fairly large cemetery with tombs, gardens, and a priory to the area near the Talos Bridge. I used this for immersion and eye-candy purposes until I happened upon the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27500 mod. (NOTE:I will warn that I experienced a rather significant frame rate hit from both mods. Use at your own risk!)

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14669 - This mod has probably been deprecated by something new, but I've yet to seek it out. Very simply, it allows NPC's you're conversing with to move their hands, fold their arms, and play some other animations like they do when talking to other NPC's.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13020 - Pick up a knife, fork, spoon, rake, shovel, tongs... just about any mundane instrument in Cyrodiil and bash someone to death with it! This is one of those no-brainers that should have been included in the vanilla game. A shovel has always been a viable substitute for a sword where peasants are concerned. Also comes in an http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25382.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17154 - This mod checks to see if you have an Hourglass and/or set of Scales in your inventory and gives you small bonuses to your alchemy skill accordingly. It makes sense that you would need to weigh out ingredients and watch the clock so you don't boil/ferment your concoctions too long. (An At-Home Alchemy compatible .esp is included!)

That's all for me. I apologize if any of these were already mentioned.

By the way, you'll find a huge amount of somewhat unknown mods (some of which are very good) on http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=954258&st=0; putting the worthy into a list form would be nice, although I'm sure time consuming, so no pressure.

I am in the process of testing a few mods from this list as well as http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17011 and http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3249, both of which qualify, I think, for this list :)

This is a nice unassuming village mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19892 sitting between Cheydinhal and the IC that fits perfectly with the Arrius Creek and Ancient Yews linked ULs.

I have an additional personal fondness for the mod because it contains one graphical glitch, a duplicate floating door. which the original author never fixed. This forced me to learn a little (very little) bit about TES4Edit/modding so I could modify the esp and fix the glitch, and for that I'm really thankful to the mod author.

A massive plug for myself :P http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29735 Maybe not a gem, but quite immersive - things that are on fire tend to glow. XD And not very many downloads, so definitely unknown!

A nice little alternative start mod: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20100. You start in a house in Waterfront District of Imperial City. The mod includes a small tutorial which prepares you for the adventures in Cyrodiil and Oblivion and you can use the house as a hideout. It's one of my favourite mods.

Wrye Bash can actually help you with that, quite possibly. At least, it'll probably be easier to do than going through everything individually in the CS and changing where resources are found. I once made a Bash Script for mgkAr that did something like that.

Assuming you have any interest in doing so.
