Best of their class?

Yep, so you see? Oblivion pretty much screwed everyone over, turned men into gods and gods into men.

This thread is so bitter...it needs a hug. :(

Of course, the best warrior ever is http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/hallgerds_tale.shtml, for reasons that are just too kinky to list here. Like, seriously, http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FetishFuel

I vote Trinimac for Warrior, seeing as he's technically an et'Ada and he "killed" another et'Ada.

Mage? Probably not even determinable.

edit: Now, if you want to know the greatest all-around PERSON, it's Jiub. I've explained why in one of my posts awhile back. I'll try to find it.

Best Mage? Syrabane (or whatever his name is). He supposedly saved the world using the Warlock's Ring. Anyone who can do that by using such a weak artifact is definitely powerful.

If petitions were allowed I'd make a petition for a "Greef Book of Records" forum (Guiness is not TES enough ;)) where all the penile length comparison threads could go. "Who is teh bestest pownz0rer evar????!?" is not something we need to popping up see every day in the lore forum.

Mage: mannimarco(not the silly oblivion version, daggerfall marco)

thief: prob grayfox, (he's got a whole robin hood/zorro thing going on)

pre dragon break

warrior: cyrus (only [censored] to not only defy an empire, but kick a dragons ass, and smack talk a daedra lord)

mage: galerion(self explanitory)

thief(the original grayfox who stole the cowl)

For the record, I oppose these threads and think they are dumb. But since I'm here, might as well put in my 2 cents.

1) Best Warrior - Vivec. No one has beaten him in a fight. Even Cyrus got whopped and only "won" when he threaten to use the Prankatosword, which he didn't actually know. I always have wondered if Vivec knew he was bluffing (he definately suspected it) and just let Cyrus win. You can't even argue the PC, since Vivec didn't use his full power against the Nerevarine.

2) Best Mage - Sotha Sil. Look what he achieved before his death. He had reached the point the Dwemer in enchantments and surpassed them by far. Again, the PC will never and could never reach his level of expertise. Alternately, Zurin Arctus was immensely powerful. He figured out how to use the Numidium without the Heart, and then him or a mix of him and Ysmir smashed it. He smashed a freaking god with the power to change reality to bits, without he aid of special tools.

3) Best Theif - The best thieves remain unknown. That is what makes them great thieves. The best thieves disappear without a note. Legendary thieves can't be that great, since they were discovered to have taken the legendary amounts, with their identity known. But I would have to say the Tribunal or Tiber Septim, as they stole the godhood.

The OP was talking about the best of their class, who are still alive nowadays, so Sotha doesn't really apply. :)

Well, since it is today best, throw Vivec out of this, because he disappeared.

Eh... all the greats are dead. There seems to be a tendency for the greatest to die when around the PC. Here are my opinions of the ones alive today not including the PC

1) Best Fighter - Um ... The greats died. Modryn Oreyn I guess. Maybe Karrod.
2) Best Mage - Davith Fyr. No contest.
3) Best thief - Same as before.

In my game he's a Khajiit skooma addict rotting away in the sewers of St. Olms, does that make him a useless [censored] in lore? Nerevar was a warlord, thus a great warrior, and so is the Nerevarine.

I don't think a Khajiit skooma addict would qualify as fulfilling the Prophecies of the Nerevarine. Nerevar was a great warrior but the Nerevarine isn't Nerevar.

I think that as long as a character isn't confirmed dead in the next game, they would qualify as alive. Caius Cosades is called back to Imperial City in the middle of the main quest of Morrowind. At the start of the Oblivion questline the Emperor is killed and Caius takes a few days off to go visit the Emperor's tomb. If Betesda accounted for every potential action the player may make this wouldn't be possible, as some players may have killed Cosades in Morrowind, making it impossible for him to visit the tomb.

A Khajiit skooma addict could qualify. The prophesy never says that the Nerevarine has to be a great anything.

Nerevar was a great warrior, the Nerevarine is not Nerevar. It is even unclear if the Nerevarine is really a reincarnation of Nerevar or just a tool of Azura.

My point was that chances are a Khajiit skooma addict rotting in St. Olms would probably not even meet Azura or do anything signifigant.

But we know from the PGE 3E that the Nerevarine did, in fact, complete the prophecies.

Dagoth Ur was also insane. I always denied I was the Nerevarine because I still don't think the PC is really Nerevarine.
