Best way to create magic effect to reduce skill

Post » Sat Sep 27, 2014 1:12 pm

Hi,

I've tried Value Modifier, Peak Value Modifier, etc, but I can't seem to create a magic effect that reduce an actor's skill (e.g. speech).

What's the best way to handle that? I want the effect to be continuous until I remove the spell in a script.

Thanks!

The flag "Detrimental" needs to be checked, so that the game engine knows to reduce the actor value instead of increase.

Thanks Terra Nova. Yes, I have detrimental checked.

Currently:

- Name = "Speech impaired"

- Archetype = Value Modifier

- Constant Effect

- Assoc Item 1 = Speech

- Flags: Detrimental, Recover, No Hit Effect, No Hit Event, No Area, Painless

Everything else is default.

It is delivered via a Constant Effect Spell as Ability.

In game after the spell is cast on a level zero actor (the PC), in console I do:

player.getav Speech

And I get 0.00 back.

Also, for some reason, in-game when in the Magic Tab/Effects - the effect is listed, the Description shows up as a single ".".

I have a description authored for the effect, no override for the spell, and the spell only has this one effect. The description uses but no period exists in the description at all, so I'm not sure why it would just show a solitary ".".

Thanks for your help

I don't know why it's showing trailing dots. You can check "Hide in UI" so that doesn't show up in the effect list, if you want.

The description is actually important to me.
