Best way to get Bethesda games into GOG? (Classic FallOut)

Post » Sat Mar 14, 2015 10:49 am

Hi!

First of all, the thread title doesn't have "piracy" nor "Steam vs GOG" on it, so please, let's stay focus on what I want to talk, please. I state this first as I saw some other similar threads that ends being a fight about those subjects, and hey, I am ok if people wants to express their opinion, but this time I need opinions about convincing GOG/Bethesda to sell their games in GOG store, ok? :)

What I want from you fellows are recommendations to convince both Bethesda and GOG to get their games there. I mean, Doom, Fallout, Wolfenstein, TES, etc etc etc. We all know Bethesda catalog is quite huge and GOG users would love to have some of it there.

So, how do you guys think we can convince this 2 companies? And please, don't tell me "http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1506641-unofficial-steamgogdrm-etc-discussion-38/page-7#entry23799918"; I believe that kind of statement relay in GOG / Bethesda voicers; we can have only opinions and the ones I am asking right now is the best way to get those 2 companies in contact to sell Fallout, Wolfenstein, Dooooommmm!! Etc etc etc.

Cheers!

I don't even know what's holding them back. If more sales and good press/word of mouth isn't convincing enough, I can't tell what would be.

Fallout was on GOG (and still is if you bought it back when it was available), but it got taken down after Interplay lost the rights. Dunno why Bethesda hasn't re-negotiated the license with GOG yet.

Bethesda's always been on the conservative side of business; early and middle adopters they are not. We all remember how they insisted on using Games for Windows Live to distribute the Fallout 3 DLCs, even though Steam was the better and far more popular service at the time.

Anyway, to get their games (back) on GOG, you need to somehow convince Bethesda that it will be a profitable venture, by trying to dig up statistics showcasing sales figures and that sort of thing. Snail mail explaining your preferences and petitions can also help, provided you can get enough people to join in. Regardless, you can't say it's because you want to get those games DRM-free; that's likely the reason why the suits are so hesitant to do any business with them in the first place (and they'll just think you're a pirate anyway).

Didn't they make the early TES games free to download?

And most of the other games are on steam, and Bethesda have said that they like steam.

And it probably sells decently well there.

Also, welcome to the forums, have a http://images.uesp.net/c/c4/Fishystick.jpg.

Exactly! Only to make the brand stronger they will positionate there with Fallout and Doom.

When Fallout was on GOG, it was in the Best Salles, Bethesda knows it. I think there should be some conditions apart from DRM free stuff. Maybe they want regional prices, I don't know.

Yeah but some of us don't like Steam so we use GOG. I have a Steam account my self only because I am forced to. I mean, I like to play games, and the only way to get some games is Steam. But as I say, I don't like Steam, so I want Bethesda games into Steam. I am ok just with the old ones, like Woldfenstein 3D, Doom 1 and 2, Fallout classics, etc etc.

I want to say that you can get Arena and Daggerfall from Bethesdas website.

As far as the others go, yeah having them on GoG could be nice, but I personally don't mind steam too much. Though I get most of my older games on GoG, unless I of course can find a retail copy. And I actually come across retail copies of the original fallout games on the bargain area of GameStop every so often.

So if you want it DRM free, maybe you can find it there.

Highly unlikely to happen. As has been said in gentle terms - but I'll bump it up a step or two. Zenimax is hugely conservative and litigious company. They're not going to embrace gog any time soon. The idea of drm free would be pissing in their face. It gives them reduced control and would likely give shareholders the jitters. They've snuggled up to Valve, why work to build a more positive relationship with customers via multiple outlets when they're already buying your product regardless of their overall opinion of you?

Older titles that are pc gamings heritage, particularly the id back catalogue should be available for retro fans and for posterity, not to mention that they still play just as well - if not better than some recent titles, targeted at a market that truly laps up nostalgia and gaming history and sold through a marketplace that is aimed at them. Even EA understands that .

Zenimax gonna Zenimax though.
