Best way to scrap weaponsarmor?

Post » Mon Feb 08, 2016 1:34 pm

Hey guys!

I just ran out of components from traditional junk, and now I'm moving on to breaking down my useless weapons and armor I've stockpiled over my many hours of play. I just got scrapper level 2, so I'm ready to go! However, I'm running into a problem. I easily have 500+ pieces of armor and weapons that I'd like to break down, many of which are in high stacks and have to individually be dropped in order to be scrapped efficiently. Is there any way to quickly break weapons and armor down into their components? I don't believe that they will automatically break down in the workbench like junk does, though if I'm wrong please let me know! I just didn't want to spend a few hours scrapping if all if it were that easy.

Thanks!

no just drop them all on the floor then enter workshop and scrap them individually, there is no other way

Open the crafting menu at an Armor workbench or at a Weapons workbench, depending on which type of item you want to scrap.

Highlight your stack of weapons or armor in the crafting menu.

Hit R, E, R, E, R, E, R, E, R, E, or whatever the buttons are for Scrap and Confirm on console, until your stack is empty.

Be careful not to scrap any armor you have equipped in the button-mashing craze.

Note: the salvaged components will be in your inventory, and not in the workbench. You'll have to move them to the workbench when you're done.

That also means you can scrap weapons and armor on the go when you bust up a raider camp and find a weapons/armor bench there. Components generally weigh less than the original items, so that helps.

Find a nice open spot in a workshop area.

Drop them out of your inventory and you should be surrounded by a circle of stuff, then scrap them in Workshop mode.

Whilst doing that it gives you a second chance to reconsider your actions.

Once you realise that they are junk, you might do it more frequently as part of general housekeeping or barter them for other stuff.

I have tried scrapping large numbers of weapons in the weapons bench at one time but found that the game got confused and also made my favourite weapons disappear. Something that shouldn't happen because the legendary ones aren't supposed to be scrappable.

^Yunabeco's post I guess that cuts out the individual dropping time, nice idea, my advice is put all your fave stuff aside in a container first to avoid the scrapping of something you really like.

Newer do it on the floor in a workshop menu (unless you do it on purpose). All items which you will scrap that way will be deduced from settlement size. This may eventually cause crashes since you trick game to believe that there are less items/objects in your settlement then they really are (game does not recognize increase in size when you drop items on the ground). Game may then let you to build/add objects exceeding your hardware limits.

Enter weapon or armor workstation, there is option for scrapping weapons or armor. On PC shortcut is R.

Make quick save in advance because you may by mistake scrap something you don't intend to.

That's a point worth remembering but i don't think it matters if the items are being deducted from the Workshop are storage of where they are being scrapped.

Awesome, thanks for all the help!

I'll try out the bench scrapping suggestion! I've been running into a weird problem where if I drop my 45 10mm pistols they'll turn into 5 dropped pistols (presumably stacked something like 9 each) just like regular junk items, but these are still just labeled as one rather than 9 and will only scrap to a single guns worth of parts rather than the 9 in the stack (though picking up the stack will give me the full 9). Then selecting each one individually to drop can take a while (as you have to navigate through the "How Many?" menu each time you drop one). The workshop idea definitely seems quicker; definitely the suggestion I was looking for!

Thanks again for the help
