Huh? The best way is to not use it. Sometime I do but it's only to do quick misc quest so I can get my quest log down. But yeah like said above be more specific.

Just use it to turn in quests (if its a hike) and to sell loot when you are close to being over encumbered.
Only fast travel 10% of your time, walk all the other times or you will miss a lot.

Also if you do fast travel, then fast travel but a location that is a ways away from your destination so you are still walking a good chunk of the way.
I would suggest the first thing you do in the game is find that cart guy and travel to all the major city hubs. That way you can fast travel to all the major cities if needed.


Then when you find a location that could be across the map, you could FT to a hub then walk from the hub to your end point.

That sounds like a good idea.

It works out well for me, also if you use FT to get across the map to a location you have already visited. When you FTP to a place near it, try to find one that the path to the end point you have not gone through yet.

I use it on two occasions.

1. Like the Town Portal spell/scroll in Diablo, but only when I'm over-encumbered. I go to the town of my choice, offload some stuff and then FT back to where I was or at least as near as I can get.
2. Use it as a replacement for the missing carriage stops. Not all Holds have carriage service. I think they should. So I use FT as a replacement where appropriate. I do make myself go at least to the edge of town before engaging FT.

That's pretty much it with the exception of the time my game crashed half way up the throat of the world and my last save was out in BFE some place. On reload I ported to Iverstead and started the climb over from there.

You don't need to use it actually. You can walk/run the roads, buy a horse or take the "coach" that will lead you to each main city in each hold. Furthermore, using it will make you miss opportunities. :wink_smile:

So lets say that I'm in Rorikstead. I need to sell my gear in Whiterun. I just walked from Whiterun to Rorikstead. Do I walk down the VERY SAME path I just came? Or do I use FT?

I'd walk as long as I could get by without using up strength potions. As I said above (if not too clearly) I only FT when out of town if over-encumbered...meaning I have to drop stuff or use a potion to move.

In any event use carriages and FT sparingly so you don't rob yourself of the joy of exploration.

Try another path, cut through the countryside, go to another city... :wink_smile:

I only use it if I'm encumbered or have to travel across the map and not in the mood to do so.

Do all cities have vendors?

Big cities with walls and doors all have vendors.

IWhen I started the game I got my room at the college and then walked from there to all the major cities before I did anything else so I would have some travel points.I don't understand the carriages.Can you travel to cities you haven't been yet?

Yes, didn't you talk to the drivers? If you don't know the cities, they do. :wink_smile:
