The All-American is his favorite. His STR is 7 and it qualifies. He goes through a LOT of ammo though. I get the surplus ammo for him. He'll say he's out of ammo but when the surplus is the only thing he has, he'll use it. Make sure your CHA stat is high too because he'll deal out more damage and take more damage if it is. :)

Got OWB?

I like to use Christine's Sniper Rifle and I give Boone the Gobi Campaign sniper. Boone's STR doesn't quite cut it for the AMR, but with a Sniper (normal, Gobi, Christine's) he's beast. Those snipers are rapid fire and they've got good range, so yeah, enemies go down really quick.
I'd prefer that to the All-American, personally. With the sniper setup, you can give him Hand-loader ammo too for additional damage. He'll take down most targets in 3 hits, which will only take about 3 seconds. More importantly, he's really got range. Most companions won't fire until the enemy is fairly close. With a sniper, Boone's range seems to match your own.

I just let him use his scoped hunting rifle.. Tried the AMR once but I like how quick he shoots with his rifle. I guess it's kind of a personal preference.

Gobi campaign is at a sniper nest near Cottonwood Cove. It requires 100 lockpick to obtain.
Part of the reason I got the idea of giving it to him is because it's implied it IS his rifle. It's likely that's the rifle he used in....a certain personal story he tells you about.

Boone's DPS with the Gobi and Hand loader ammo is about ~123 damage per second, compared to the All-American's 156. However, it's important to note that his range would be superior with the sniper, there's no worry of him having trouble punching through the enemy's DT (which CAN happen with the All-American) and you'd save money on ammo since he'd be firing less shots. Boone also has a decent crit rate and the Gobi has a decent crit amplifier, so it's likely the Gobi (or any sniper for that matter) would actually have superior DPS.

Boone with the AMR is rather disappointing. He falls short of the STR requirement so he misses fairly often with it.
A sniper rifle however is simply an upgrade. Sniper Rifles have superior DPS to his Hunting Rifle, so basically all you're doing is upgrading his firing speed. With the Gobi, he's firing over twice as fast as before.

Check Boone's actual inventory for the weapon. Companions like to pick that one up on their own, when you're not looking, fairly often. ;)

I only use him until I get Veronica. Give her some power armor, Salt-Upon-Wounds Power fist or a Saturnite fist of some sort. (Heated or whatever, again a personal prefrence) But I'm getting of topic. I guess I didn't help much eh guys?

I'm not letting him use any weapon other than the default one. He goes through ammo like crazy with the sniper (or gobi) rifle and any automatic. And the AMR's fire rate is way too slow. Every shot must count. He's pretty accurate with the hunting rifle and got unlimited ammo so that's ok :/

Went to vault34 armory with Boone the other day and spent about 20mins looking for All American, Was starting to rage thinking its glitched in to Oblivion, ha, check Boone inventory and there it is. Now never has a companion picked a specialist weapon up for me before so I took it as a sign he liked that gun but he picked Pushy up earlier too! Could this be a fail safe to stop you missing specialist items with a companion? Will try more and report!

I don't usually give companions unique weapons becauseim afraid they'll be disarmed and lose them, should I be worried of this?
