Best weapon for the Eureka quest?

Post » Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:47 pm

I'm still at the beginning of the Eureka quest, playing as a high guns/explosives/energy weapons, low melee/unarmed, character and I'm having a really hard time killing the legionnaires. I've tried just about every combo of gun/ammo and nothing but a very precise shot to the head seems to do much more than slow them down. The Gauss rifle seems to work best but that isn't so good in crowded fights.

Any advice?

the first couple of times i done the quest i used the light mg with AP rounds and the all american. works pretty well but for me the legate was the problem. he just wouldn't die so i recommend your high dmg weapon of choice (anti-material rifle etc. maybe?)

Your best bet is to start preparing in the beginning of Fallout:New Vegas. When you find something like the Fat Man, Grenade Machinegun, or the Gatling Laser, store it for later. Usually my end mission gear contains T-51b Power Armor, Gatling Laser for heavy fire support, Light Machine Gun for mid range, and the Anti-Material Rifle for Legate Lanius' camp.

lolwat

Even on VH combat armor MKII and a riot shotgun will kill and clean out any group of legionaries.

Thanks people, I've got all those except the LMG and the Fat Man, which I've somehow managed to lose.

Any of these works best imo.

Hunting rifle AP or han loaded JSP rounds.

Hunting shotgun slugs and shotgun surgeon or riot with the same load out.

Gauss rifle even up close it's fanastic, add in max charge it'll one shot on normal.

Light machine gun AP rounds.

Marksman AP rounds.

Trail carabine normal or SWC rounds.

The brushgun.

The 12.7 handgun.

Balistic fist.

Super sledge or similar melee weapon, add piercing strike a chainsaw will be fantastic.

Basically if you have AP rounds, good strength on your weapon and a good RoF / attack speed then you'll want to use that.

What level are you? I find that AP rounds are a good bet, unless you're going for sneak criticals. A hunting rifle should suffice for most of the battle, or alternatively a hunting or preferably riot shotgun. For the Legate's Camp, you'll want at the very least a sniper rifle, and ideally an Anti-Material rifle. The latter is extremely useful, just be careful with the ammo and condition. Might want to save it for the end.

Also, considering taking a few plasma mines for the last boss fight, just in case.

I'm level 30 and it turned out to be much easier than I anticipated, I am only playing on "normal" but still, I was expecting more from the final battle as the legionnaires in the Power Plants seemed stronger than usual.

Thanks again for the help.
