Best & worst news for you so far?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:41 pm

Best - they're working on making the combat deep/tactical. If they succeed it will be the first TES with interesting combat.

Worst - They still haven't let go of level scaling. Although there's still a chance they can implement it without it being stupid. If they do, then the worst is dialogue still being primitive and short due to voice overs.

Best:
It's in the province of SKYRIM!
Crafting
Open and uniqe Cities
Old level-scaling is gone!
New grafic engine
Strong culture-difference from area and faction on Skyrim
MK is writing lore
Better economy, inc new job options (if I got it right)
Better and more powerful archery
Perk system that makes lesser weopon good if you use them alot

Worst:
Voice in dialogues is back (of course)
Npc:s with no dialogues

Everything sounds awesome except NPC 1 liners or small dialogue.

Best: removal of the class system/ new spell system

Worst: hmm... I'd say prolly the UI... IF it turns out as bulky and strange as it sounds to me.

Hopeful: new bartering system like morrowind/fallout so we can buy/sell everything at one time :)

Okay...

Worst: only 2 things have me worried.

-The aim magnetism that Todd mentioned. I'm one of those ' like to aim myself ' type of players so hopefully this ' Slightly Helpful Automatic Targetting System 3000 ' or '3000 SHATS' as I like to call it, is very, very subtle or optional to use.
-The second thing might not be bad. I just feel as though it hasn't been properly explained yet. It has to do with how swiftly and easily we will be able to maneuver through our preset(favorite) slots when in combat. Will we be able to switch between different presets without having to pause or freeze the game and bring up a menu? Will we be able to select them with hotkey? Will it be a combination of both, as in 5 or 6 preset slots that you are more likely to use, can be hotkeyed, and everything else can be found in an easy to maneuver menu while quickly pausing the game. If hotkeys or some form of quick switch(without pause) between multiple preset slots isn't implemented I really think its going to hurt the game, especially when in those intense fights for your life.

Best:

-Everything else. Its hard to single anything out because, as a whole, the game sounds and seems like its going to be spectacular, but if I really had to pick something it would probably be Radiant story.

off-topic, but is the aim magnetism for ranged weapons or melee or both?

If it's melee-only, I think it can be justified.. it was WAY too easy to accidentally hit an ally in Oblivion, more than I think it would be RL, because in RL you'd have more control over where your weapon goes then just where you're looking..

personally I don′t mind it, in Oblivion I never fealt your character used the whole breath of the screen, just a bit straight forward, the "magnet" thing means my character don′t need to be dead on looking at the foe

Just like how RL warriors didn′t mind striking off center if it ment hitting your target.

It hasn't been clarified yet. All that was said was that it's a slight magnetism that will help guide your attack towards an enemy rather than a friend, companion or ally. So if it's only used in those instances, I can live with it, but if it's something that I can feel all the time, affecting my swings, my bow shots and my spells, well then...then I have a problem with it.

Best:
Beards?

Worst:
A combination of...
-no spears
-no crossbows
-map is the same size as Oblivion
-no spell making
-no blocking with 1 h
-no birth signs
-no classes
-no Mysticism (no Todd, it is not redundant)
-Th'uum becomes the new Oblivion tower
-further "streamlining" with skills
-crappy UI made for consoles forced on PC players

Worst: None

Worries:

Probable no alternative traveling mechanism for Fast Travel.

Probable Quest Target and Point of Interest Markers on compass.

Best:

-Everything else. Its hard to single anything out because, as a whole, the game sounds and seems like its going to be spectacular, but if I really had to pick something it would probably be Radiant story.

Ralos...Ralos...Ralos...I'm starting to think you just like to disagree with me.

I see your point...but I think we still see it differently. I'm all for having the camera's central perspective and the player's reticle or central point of focus be independent of one another while in 3rd person. That way you dont always have to have him looking directly at the enemy when you attack, but instead would still have to line up a 'reticle' or some form of targetting dot on your enemy for the attack to be successful. I don't think that idea would work well in 1st person though...but then again, what do I know.

I still believe though, that the ability to accurately strike an opponent needs to rest in the hands of the player and not be assisted by any sort of aim assist...that's just how I see it.

Yeah, wtf is up with "Mysticism is redundant". It's the meta-school, the one that deals with manipulating other magics.. it's like saying the Blue color in Magic the Gathering is redundant

The Good:

-Lots of towns with over 10 buildings each.
-Combat
-Radiant AI possibly extended to beasts(at least some are, like Wolfs)
-Hand crafted world
-Creation Kit(Best news by far)

The Bad:
-Nothing yet, a few minor things I am unsure of, but mods will take care of them if it turns out I don't like them.

The Ugly:
Oblivon Npcs but not Skyrims!

Best: The new perk system. Character customization without being good at everything. Hopefully that's impossible. ~200 perks, only choose 50. Hopefully.

Worst: Higher resolution and mouse/keyboard support for the PC. Also fast travel.

Best-Dungeons having some change to them, level scaling being scaled down, Dragons, Daggers getting some love, Crossbows coming back
Worst-Assumption that attributes are gone, thieves are getting the short end of the stick again...useless conversation skill and alchemy taking up another thief slot that could have been used for something else, acrobatics removed....maybe we should all just be fighters or mages. Shheeeeesh.

good

- dual wielding and the flexibility it brings
- new skill system
- revamped level scaling

bad

- if true, the pulling out of there rear, ilogical lack of block for 1h + spell
- most likly having the same true and tested set in stone racial bonuses, meaning for example all High Elfs will most likly be extra good mages, come on beth, you killed the old class system, now there is one old giant left.

What would you want them to do instead of racial bonuses?
