Best & worst news for you so far?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:05 pm

What would you want them to do instead of racial bonuses?

a even start on skills, then a pool of free to use skill points, and then have the option to spend points to increase, or gain points by decreasing some skills, thus basicly make your own racial skill bonuses

other racial is fine, it′s just the skill bonuses I want open for choice.

Best: Combat seems to have been dramatically improved. Music to my ears.

Worst: Skill levelling being the same as Oblivion, granted it may work, but I have the nagging feeling...

Best: Reported combat improvements, most notably the 'put what you want in whatever hand'. Worst: Inclusion of at least one giant spider to kill. Hopefully theres only one... *Shudders*

This, I HATE spiders.

Best: to not know any details and 100% true info on critical questions.

Worst: to not know.... blaa... critical questions.

Best: the perks, the unique dungeons, radiant story/quests, the "more brutal" feel in general, the removal of classes.
The worst: not knowing enough! :P I want to see what the races look like, and hear more about AI. Basically, I'm greedy.

Crossbow are not in the game.

best - revampled level scaling

best - it's in skyrim... actually this should be at the top of the list

best - hand crafted world and dungeons. this gives me great hope that it will have atmosphere like MW. (see worst on leveled loot that knocks it down between OB and MW for atmosphere)

possible best - dragon behaviors. would love to see a random dragon attacking a town

worst - leveled loot. this was talked about in some magazines.... what is the point of dungeon crawling if the loot is based on your level. add some danger and surprise and go for some actual imaginitive thought

possible worst - "side job system" - If it is like fable 2 then we are seeing the beginning of the end of Beth as a great developer. If not it really needs depth to it besides just supporting the crafting system.

likely worst - loss of spellmaking - I never really used it myself. But if your going to take out a well loved feature and replace it with a crafting system that could break balance just us much as spell creation you should at least try to put it in.

likely worst - skill tree/perk combo system - Since it is confirmed that we can "rank up" most of the perks multiple times under each skill I have the feeling the system is going to be terribly generic and boring. I.E. +5% firebolt damage

I think skyrim is gonna be great but I hope Todd isn't going all Molyneux on us with the "streamlining" and "mainstreaming" just to reach a wider audience

Best - The emphasis on unique cities, dungeons(8 dungeon designers to Oblivion's 1), landscape. TES is all about exploration for me, and it sounds like Skyrim will be a big step up from Oblivion and even Morrowind.

Worst - Not being able to block with 1h weapons just sounds like a cop out for not figuring out what to do with controls. I like most of their combat changes so far but this worries me as I was planning on playing with 1h weapon+spell in off hand, and blocking/parrying just seems too integral to melee combat to not be able to do.

What do you mean by 1H swords?

Best - The increase is game depth in terms of things we can *do* (skills and perks) rather than doing the same thing better and better.
Best* - hardcoe mode like in FONV, focusing more on surviving the elements rather than just questing.
Worst - Area size not increase in a grand scale (or rather, not at all) and reduced number of dungeons. Takes away even more exploration.
Worst* - If we get no mounts and/or we get no believable methods of travel to supplement fast travel.
* Depends on whether it is in or not.

Did Bethesda confirm the hardcoe mode ?

A lot of these "worsts" are just plain silly. They mostly originate from a misunderstanding or lack of detailed info. Some little things are blown way out of proportion, as in, when you actually play the game, you won't care.

With that said,

Best: Less than a year to wait.

Worst: Almost 9 months to wait.

The best:
- More immersive and realistic combat.
- Races being more unique.
- The fact that this game will have a grittier approach.
- The leveling system was in need of improvements, hopefully this overhaul will be good.
- Not all wildlife wants you dead.

The worst:
- Level scaling, while it will be closer to Fallout 3(which is an improvement) I would rather like to see something similiar to New Vegas.
- Dialogue seems to be dumbed down when it really needed more options and interaction.
- No Spellmaking.

I like the idea, really do. I despise the implementation. In oblivion at least it made levelling horrible, you had to plan everything out carefully or it quickly became very difficult. If you planned too well it quickly became ridiculously easy. I guess it's as much an issue with the allocation of points at levelling as it was the spam X to level it thing... I'd love it if it was done well, I'm just worried it's going to be a carbon copy of Oblivion's broken levelling.

I see a lot of people putting down spell making as a con. It has not been confirmed that we dont have it. If it does get confirmed though, I'll probably not even get Skyrim.

The aim assist doesn't sound too bad, because it gives the player character a more organic feel. Your arms aren't on a swivel with your head, so spells shouldn't be point-and-shoot.

Best: The dual wield system
Worst: The lack of info, the lack of a block when dual wielding a 1H weapon and a spell, and perks. I hate the idea of perks.

IMO it will probably be out. They are focusing on the other items like perks and side jobs and crafting. plus the dragonshouts. Doubt they will have the time to refine it to something nice (as it was pretty much confirmed it was not an item they looked closely at) so Todd will just axe it. Sounds like our magic system has changed to something more linear and predetermined much like the perks. Generic and boring

I never gotten the whole "if game mechanic X is mot in I drop the whole game"

Sure there things I don't like, but so far nothing to make me drop the game fully.

Best - changes to bow damage and other combat related improvements.
Worst - nothing major yet. I'm adopting a wait and see approach for the level scaling and how bad (in terms of cheesiness) finishing moves are.

The best new i've heard...hm thats hard. Not having spears? and the unique cities and landscape like you.

The worst..also not being able to block with a 1H sword, i really hope this doesnt happen, if they expect to make the game harder then oblivion, and saying that you actually have to use strategy then why wouldnt they let you block with a 1H weapon.

best news that there are no spear? :S are you kidding me?, ups wrong reply guy, sorry xD anyway, I don't like the fact you cant block with one handed sword while having magic in the other hand
