Best & worst news for you so far?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 12:52 pm

Best - The emphasis on unique cities, dungeons(8 dungeon designers to Oblivion's 1), landscape. TES is all about exploration for me, and it sounds like Skyrim will be a big step up from Oblivion and even Morrowind.

Worst - Not being able to block with 1h weapons just sounds like a cop out for not figuring out what to do with controls. I like most of their combat changes so far but this worries me as I was planning on playing with 1h weapon+spell in off hand, and blocking/parrying just seems too integral to melee combat to not be able to do.

Almost all that has been revealed about Skyrim was good news to me.

My only gripe is with the UI.

The best new i've heard...hm thats hard. Not having spears? and the unique cities and landscape like you.

The worst..also not being able to block with a 1H sword, i really hope this doesnt happen, if they expect to make the game harder then oblivion, and saying that you actually have to use strategy then why wouldnt they let you block with a 1H weapon.

Favorite- Pretty much all the combat information so far. I can't wait to try it out for myself

Worst- The map is the same size as oblivion. Sure, it will feel bigger, but its still the same size. :( kind of a bummer.

Can't say really.. yes I know I posted an opinion to say I have no opinion the world just keeps spinning don't it.

Really not much info's out, none can really be said to be bad or great.. just vaguely optimistic.

The worst news was not having certain long, sharp objects which can stab opponents from a distance...:P

The best news would be that...

actually at this hour I can't think of anything that stands out as AMAZING. I'm liking a lot, though.

Best-I would pretty much agree with what you said, and the fact you can have a "job" now, and smithing.

Worst-Yup, again I agree and no more custom made spells.

Radiant AI, randomised quests and the new way of character building sound awesome.

The removal of spellmaking rumour makes me wanna pull my hair out and wail though.

Don't really have a "best" news so far.... But I'm pretty upbeat about Skyrim, because it seems like Skyrim is just going to do a lot of little things better than in previous games. So maybe my best news so far is that there've been lots of little good things that add up to one big feeling of optimism?

As for worst: well, at the moment, I'm a little perplexed by the news that a one-handed weapon + spell combination won't allow you to block. But I'm not sure yet that I want to say that this is a bad decision - even if the news accurately reflects the game. This is because I initially thought that getting rid of spell-making was a bad decision, but I've since come to appreciate the benefits Bethesda are trying to bring to Skyrim's magic system, and why spell-making - at least in the Oblivion/Morrowind form - would not be altogether suitable. I don't want to rule out that I might similarly come around on the decision to not allow you to block with a one-handed weapon + spell combination.

Everything you said also applies to me. I'm also a bit worried that Dragon Shouts could overshadow magic at high levels.
I really hope that One-Handed block thing was just a misinterpretation in the mag.

I like the variety of new ways to make money, and the new combat system sounds interesting, but I don't really like the route they're taking with skills, and we still don't have much variety in weapon types.

Best
--------------------
-Bioshock style element spell effects
-More diverse activities to engage in
-Potentially better balanced gameplay

Worst
--------------------
-Dragonborn (So I already have a predefined purpose :/ Hope it can be avoided)
-Dragon shouts (Now my character has a voice but what if he don't sound like I want?)
-Dagger perks under Stealth (I hope I could still get stealth strikes with an axe if I choose to!)
-Not clear how quick selecting will work
-Dungeons lock to your level (No reason to go back to them?)
-Not enough details in general

Not Sure
--------------------
-From what we have heard it would seem that magic has been fully redone (ex. ward spells as a shield, iron flesh). I just hope there are still the spells I enjoy.
I still want to be able to fortify my attacks as well as use several spells in the illusion school.

I ain't sure about this, but I could swear I read somewhere that all npc's (even bandits) have names, if I recall correctly then this is the best news for me... if not then I guess the best news is that there MIGHT be werewolves (even though i'd much rather have werebears).

The worst news is alot of the things that are (currently) out... ya' know werewolves, spears, crossbows, other mounts than horses (I hate horses), and stuff like that...

Edit: Some more things I really can't deal with is respawning and leveled dungeons (once you've been at a place then you've already seen it!), fasttravel, no dialog trees for unimportant people, and longswords...

Best - The increase is game depth in terms of things we can *do* (skills and perks) rather than doing the same thing better and better.
Best* - hardcoe mode like in FONV, focusing more on surviving the elements rather than just questing.
Worst - Area size not increase in a grand scale (or rather, not at all) and reduced number of dungeons. Takes away even more exploration.
Worst* - If we get no mounts and/or we get no believable methods of travel to supplement fast travel.
* Depends on whether it is in or not.

Best news? Mod support.

Worst news? No fancy graphics.

Why do I say these? Well, Mod support will, a few years down the line, turn it into one of the best games ever made regardless of how it releases, and no fancy graphics is because that's one of the few bad things that will be very difficult to fix with mods as well as it would be if it were vanilla. While projects like OBGE and MWGE are fantastic they are performance heavy simply because they don't have access to all the data they want.

Of course, neither of those include things we haven't had news on, or where news can't be trusted. The most important thing by far is the quality of the world - and news on that can't be trusted for obvious reasons.

Best: Everything.
Worst: Nothing.

I will wait until I play the game until I declare the combat controls/UI/lack of spellmaking the worst decision ever.

Best: Reported combat improvements, most notably the 'put what you want in whatever hand'.
Worst: Inclusion of at least one giant spider to kill. Hopefully theres only one... *Shudders*

Best - Perk/skill system. I'm very interested to see how this turns out.

Worst - Generic one-liner NPCs. That just tells me "this is not a person, it's a (walking) obstacle" and will pull me out of the world faster than anything else I've heard so far. God help them if they don't at least have unique names or even full schedules.

Best: they are making spells more unique, i think todd in an interview compared them with plasmids in bioshock, and if they are that unique and there is 80+ thats going to be awesome! :celebration:

Worst: spell crafting is not guaranteed to be in, seems iffy at best to me :( there will be mods for it either way though :spotted owl:

Some of the best news I've heard is about the dragons. They sound like they're going to be really cool

Worst news? Probably not being able to block with a one handed sword. That's kind of stupid, but the good news far outweighs the bad so, I'm happy.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense, especially for fighting styles that rely on parrying:
