Bet on the Console Install Time!

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:44 am

So you've waited in line until midnight, purchased the game, driven home, torn the cellophane off and feverishly loaded the game disc into your next-generation XBox or Playstation!!!

And now you wait for the $@#%& game to install.

I'm betting 23 minutes for XBox, 17 minutes for Playstation.

Bonus: Guess the download time of the first update! I'll say 5 and 5.

What's your guess? How long will we have to wait, even after we have the game?

(Computer users and those downloading the game, you'll have to come up with your own last-minute-agony wagers)

I preordered on PSN so I can preload and play at 10pm on the 9th. I also plan to buy it on disk later. Plus I'll get it on Steam later too.

Download time for me will likely be around 6hrs i'd guess and depending on the launch update possibly might have to wait a bit to actually play I guess.

Depends on the internet speed of the user and how well steam, psn and windows live servers can handle traffic.

An Xbox One with using an external hard drive has a faster install than directly installing to the internal hard drive. But I don't time installs, I just watch TV or do something else till the game is ready. Also I don't start playing till the full game is installed just out of mild paranoia that something will go wrong.

Question: I also pre ordered on PSN. it says i can download two days prior, so im assuming 12am the 8th. Now you said download and playable 10pm the 9th. I have heard other sites and people say that you may be able to play at 10 on the 9th. Now did you mean download start at 10pm on the 9th and play when it finishes, or did you mean download whenever and start playing on the 9th at 10pm? Pretty much im just confused about the actual time of events and am wondering if anyone really knows.

I'm saying I'll preload it on the 8th or whenever and then be able to play right at 10pm on the 9th. I'm in Alberta, Canada so it's central mountain time I believe.

You don't even own a PS4 do you? lol Even GTAV with its mighty 50GB next gen install size did not require even 60 seconds before the game booted up ready to play......no AAA title ever did no matter the install size....and I've been through several 50GB ones.

As for download time of first day patch......that is entirely dependent on your internet speed.....same as on any PC.

But if you bought the digital PSN version of Fallout 4 like me you'll be able to preload the game before it even unlocks on November 10 so that should take care of the patch too....wait time after game unlocks on November 10: 0 seconds.

I have to point out that the Xbox One preload is live now. I am sure a lot of people are already downloading it.

Is pre-loading actually confirmed? Cause on my version it said sth along the lines of 'estimated download time between the 8th and 11th' (it's the psn digital season pass bundle thingy).

When I last checked it, it said it expected to be up for preload on November 8th.

Your estimated download time is probably based on your internet speed.....didn't say a thing about the 11th to me....just preload on 8th. I can download about 4 to 5 GB/hour.

There is no install time when you download it, just download time.

My internet speed is actually pretty good, the estimated download time was given because my psn (EU) doesn't charge for pre-orders straight away, so it was telling me to make sure I had money in my wallet/auto funding enabled by that time. But still, it definitely said 8th-11th, so it's like they're not sure they'll have pre-loading, or sth? Idk.

I am in the US.....my PSN wallet was charged instantly at the time of preorder and when I just checked on PSN again just now the game is definitely marked as "Pre-Load supported, play at midnight on November 10" but the bit about the 8th is gone.....I suspect that is because it will be up sooner than that seeing as the Xbox guys are already preloading. No idea how it'll work on your end with your wallet not being charged shenanigans.....hopefully they'll let you pre-load as soon as the download is available.

Sure hope so, I took a day off from work on the 10th... and I've been shafted once already when I did the same for another game, so I'm a tad nervous. At least the 11th is a holiday.

I'd assume a hour or two.
Getting disc copy.
This is just another reason why I hate mandatory installs.

Unfortunately, I will be waiting quite a bit longer as I am getting the game in a bundle with the X1. Thus, X1 DLing comes first, then the game. I have a feeling I will be about a day or two behind everyone else.

With my terrible ISP, I'd guess 72 hours, assuming the connection doesn't get dropped every 5 minutes.

for Xbox One about 30 minutes maybe less for ps4 about 2 hours with some people just flat out unable to install the game until a patch comes out mark my words its gonna happen Bethesda almost has a personal vendetta against playstations or at least it seems that way with there track record on them.

No....they are not doing any more exclusvie deals. Install from disc on PS4 is insanely fast....never more than 60 seconds even to start playing 50GB installs. Patch speed depends on your internet but PSN has been excellent at making the most of my internet's capacity. None of this will matter if you bought digital and can preload.

I keep seeing people posting Xbox One is preloading but mine is not. I just checked my queue and the game and it is still saying the same thing "Too early, play on the 10th" or some such nonsense.

Glad to hear from the PC and downloading crowd. That's all pretty interesting. I'm an old fart so I like having a disk; the first time I tried to play a game in the XBox One was a shock - why the hell was I having to wait? I understand it now, but it's still irritating.

I guess when I get home on the 10th I'll go make a sandwich or something.
