Beta Testing Question

Post » Sat Feb 20, 2016 6:38 pm

Hi, everyone. I'm new to the forums here, and I wanted to clear up something about the DLC beta testing for Fallout 4. If I do get accepted into the beta testing, is the beta testing for the first DLC and the first DLC only, or do I get beta access to all of the DLC's in the future? I am debating whether I should get the season pass or not, because IF I do, and IF I will be a beta tester for all of the DLCs in the future, I will not get it. However, if the beta sign-up it is only for the Automatron DLC, I will buy it. Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for all of your help, everyone. I decided that I am going to buy the season pass, as my chances of getting in are very slim. It would be nice to get into the beta testing, but a season pass is a good backup plan.

They didn't specify so no one really knows. I applied for beta but then also grabbed the season pass. For me it's not about getting it for free and I'd rather the devs get the money they worked for

We cannot answer until they do it, but reading the release announcement, it does not say you will be selected for all :( Just that you will get the DLC you were selected to test for free.

So I am not going to get season pass for this reason. might save a couple of $$ if I get chosen vs spending early for $20 off.

I think you may have to have a PC to beta test. I tried to sign up, but one of the questions was "Do you use mods?" and, being an honest guy, I said no. Because, you know, PS4. The signup won't take that "no" as an answer.

Am I just using it wrong?

Being that it is Bethesda - I would try a different browser.

Even on a PC, the preferred Beta tester will not be using Mods. They are trying to test the DLC - not your mod set.

Anybody else feel that season pass holders will get a higher chance of Beta access?

If that is the case, good job i got mine when the game came out :P

:shocking:

Wha?! They made $750,000,000 in the first 24 hours. I'd be shocked if they weren't over $1,000,000,000 by now.

I think they'll be ok if a hand full of beta testers get it for free.

I'd rather some local charity get the money rather than a multi-billion corporation.

I also selected no to using mods for the beta test form and mine went through okay. I'm on PC, though. I always test any betas without mods if I intend to provide feedback.

Thanks. For now, I am just going to wait until the 29th, and if I am not chosen by then, then they probably didn't choose me altogether. If that happens, I will buy the season pass. I just hope they choose a lot of people and that I get in.

@beerbeard57,

They specifically mention in the information about beta testing that they are looking for testers on pc, ps4, and xbox one. I have the PS4, signed up for beta testing, obviously picked 'no' for mod usage, and mine went through just fine. I would suggest either using a different browser/device (are you trying to sign up on your phone or on your pc?), or just try reloading the page.

I indicated that I played on PS4, and had no trouble selecting "No" for that question. So...I can't say what is wrong. As someone else mentioned, maybe it's web-browser related.

I was honest and selected yes if I'm using mods, heh, I guess I won't be seeing any beta :(... But felt weird to lie about it strangely enough

Sure I guess if you wanna think like that. I'm not pinching pennies, I'd rather the devs get what they deserve. You shouldn't be applying for beta if you're sole reasoning is to save a few dollars. Hell I'd PAY into beta if I had to in order to help move along the process and get the DLC out to everyone. But we're obviously different sorts of people lol

Firstly beta access is an opportunity to assist development, it is neither an entitlement nor a prize.

The way I read it, they will beta test PC and consoles.

There is no point trying to 'game' your application, just state your circumstances.

In short, apply if you want to (I did) then forget it and if it happens, it's a nice surprise.

Beta's take different forms.

Some are essentially a promotional and stress-testing opportunity. Battlefront would be an example.

Others are genuinely assessing new material and usually involve only small groups to keep feedback meaningful.

This seems to me to be somewhere in the middle,

where beta testing is allowing enough people to play to expose bugs due to play styles and circumstances not already accounted for.

Hard for us to answer that. The season pass can cover "more than $60 worth of content" but who knows if they end up coming out with something past all that and decide the season pass doesn't cover it. It has happened before in gaming. But regardless, buying the season pass before march 1st is a pretty good deal IMO

On the other hand - you demonstrated by your answer that you are familiar enough with the platform to be able to use mods.

That is a good thing. No one outside of Bethesda knows what their criteria are.

I signed up the day it was announced. I just think this would be a good opportunity to get free DLC and early access, and I want to know whether buying the season pass would be a waste or not. If I do get accepted, I will play it extensively and give feedback on any problems or bugs, but I do partially view it as an opportunity for a little freebie. I would still sign up even if I had to buy it once the beta-testing is over.

If you bought the Season Pass, you will likely get a refund. Heck, having th Season Pass makes you look like a more loyal fan so you are probably more likely to be chosen when compared to someone who did not buy a pass.

Huh? They need beta testers for ALL platforms. One of the points of the beta testing is to get the game tested on as many different systems as humanly possible.

Not necessarily: if the DLC breaks the mods, then it suggests that there is potential for the updated game to have issues with the mods. Seeing as GECK will soon be released (probably with that update) and they don't want any major issues, they may want several testers to use the popular mods.

You misunderstand: it's nit about the game conforming to mods. The problem is that if the mod worked well with last few versions, than it should also work with the new one. If it doesn't, it is possible that there is a bug in the code. If there is a bug in the code, it could cause major issues once the GECK is released because the structure of the files should not have changed.

As far as Beth is concerned, they will want both th players who play a unmodded game and the players who play the modded game. This way, they are sure that they covered as much field as possible.

The thing is, I am using my Xbox. It is part of their policy that there are no refunds for something bought online. IF I was able to get a refund, then I would buy the season pass right away. I just don't want to spend 30$ on something completely useless.
