Beta Testing?

Post » Fri Dec 25, 2009 1:27 pm

Why?

EDIT: I just don't see why SPRPGs do not have Betas... WHY? Is there a specific reason?

you finish the game in about 1 week and then you might not buy the game. NO

I thought the main purpose of an open beta was to stress test server stability in multiplayer games. So by that, an open beta for a single player game would be pointless. *shrug*

Unfortunately, to most people a Beta = Demo

Yes to beta testing, yes for private beta testing. However the beta should only test things like combat and such, in a pre-made area that does not exist in the real game with no weapons seen it the real game. Such as bow 1, bow 2 and bow 3, all looking similar, one colored bulps to see if combat works etc. Among other things ofcourse.

Of course there will be a beta, just not a public one.

There's no reason for a single player game to have a public beta (unless they want free labor or something, which is wrong).

There have been small private betas in the past for TES related stuff, like Bloodmoon. But I don't think that will happen with TES5.

Though not a guarantee, Dan Ross agrees. I asked via PM and he doesn't see it happening either.

My F:NV is nearly unplayable. OB and F3 had a ton of bugs. Those "hired" people aren't doing a good enough job obviously. Or, there is just not enough of them.

I might feel otherwise if the last 3 Bethesda releases hadn't all been bugfests, but...

Yeah, they need to do something about their testing. If not a "random-picked player closed beta," I don't know what- but what they've been doing so far is for the birds.

I think a limited acess Beta would be wonderful from a business perspective. You have a limited number of people who pay you to find bugs, provide criticism, and drive up hype.

Limited / Multiplayer "betas" are just ways of making fools pay for demos.

imo beta testing is only for multiplayer games. It would be lame "having" to play (I know we're not forced, but we would do it.) a buggy version, it's gonna ruin a bit of the fun later on, when the game actually releases. IMO.

edit: sure the release is gonna be buggy, but still it's probably better not to have a beta.

THIS! I'm going to overplay the beta.
So I vote No.
