beth still svcks at taverns

No, learn to read, the taverns are like funerals......even at night, no atmosphere, lifeless. The Ai is robotic.

Yes, I read your statement, and I summarized it quite nicely I think.

At night-time I think the taverns are just fine. And maybe there ARE better taverns, but unless The Witcher 2 does everything better than Skyrim, I don't see the point in this thread. I could make a dozen posts about how Skyrim doesn't do some things as well as other games. And then I could go to those boards and post how those games don't do some things as well as Skyrim. But these are all minor things, so who cares? If it bugs you that much, don't play it until a patch/mod comes out...

Which taverns? Riverwood? There is noone in the town to begin with, of course the tavern will be empty.

As others have already pointed out. People are busy going about their everyday life to spend 24/7 in the tavern. Go at night, when all the shops are closed and you will see more people in them (Riften tavern comes to mind, there were like 10 people stuffed in that little downstairs area).

I think what the OP is getting at is even at night, when much of the town is in there, there still aren't that many people. Probably due to the low populations of the towns and that they didn't dare try to fit too many people in one space. On top of that, they're generally silent. The only real noise coming from the occasional bard song. There's none of the noises you'd really expect to see in a tavern full of people. The pvssyr, the roars of laughter, etc.

Exactly, bethesda really svcks at making towns feel alive, so lifeless. Its not even the number of people there is no atmosphere....

Thats the price of making a big open world full of stuff to do. Feel free to play your "sandbox" games.

The Witcher 2 really did nail taverns. I think they're the best taverns I've seen in any game to date.

But then, in my opinion at least, Skyrim destroys the Witcher 2 in so many other areas that I care about it's not even funny.

Are you serious? How many RPG's you play? The witcher 1 and 2 are infintely better with people talking, music, card and dice games, fist fighting tournaments. people always moving around, waitresses serving drinks. Many games do taverns infitely better.

Never played Witcher, but RPGs are what I primarily play. In the Whiterun tavern for instance, there are people talking, bard playing music, fist fighting, people moving around, and a waitress serving drinks. I guess all that we're missing here is gambling? Or maybe just even more of what exists? Out of all the RPGs that I've played, in the few that actually had taverns, this is the best experience so far for me. But like I said, I haven't played Witcher.

Uh-huh. Let me go back to the question unanswered:
Do any of those NPCs that "fill" these taverns ever leave the tavern?

I've seen the taverns in the Witcher and even some similar things in Final Fantasy games. They are static. The npcs are placed, the "talking" you hear is a background soundtrack, and the hustle and bustle is just a scripted set of events that repeat.

TES doesn't do that sort of thing. Everything they create is dynamic, and powered by the npc life schedules. So yes, while the effect is less dramatic, it's also a lot more interesting.

People do leave the tavern in TW2, but I think you have a valid point. TW2 is heavily scripted. The NPC's are like actors playing out a very specific role. The whole game is like a cinematic experience. In Skyrim, most of the stuff you see is dynamic and created by the AI. I've played TW2 and DA:Origins, and I agree that the taverns in Skyrim are not as good, but you're comparing apples to oranges.
