bethblog.com -- any German lawyers around here?

Post » Thu Apr 30, 2015 1:08 am

Fellow German Bethesda fans might have noticed that the english http://bethblog.com is impossible to access from Germany. I contacted the support about this issue and they told me that

As far as I can tell, this is BS. Yes, they have to adapt their games (Wolfenstein in particular) to sell them in Germany and it makes sense to only write about the adapted versions in the German blog, but German law only extends to websites under the German top-level domain.

As far as I can tell, there is no law that would make it illegal for Bethesda to show a swastika on a .com domain or for a German to access that content.

Are there any lawyers (or law experts) around who can confirm this?

I am not a lawyer (and living in a country where such a law exist) but afaik yes it is possible that someone could sue because of that (it's the "Verbotsgesetzt" I doubt that a state would get active because of that, but some crazy parents...). Not that it would make much sense and lead to much. Still the possibilty exists.

But is it that hard to remove only a picture in the english version for german speaking countries? I would like to read the original Bethblog because the german version is always behind and less detailed.
