The worst that's happened to me is a single crash, and I'm at roughly 20 hours. That's the only bug.

So shut yer [censored]in.

A patch and some free content would be nice, but I'm not expecting it nor do I think I deserve it.

I'd suggest a class action lawsuit, except that it's only the lawyers that ever get anything. All we'd get is a $10 coupon off our next Bethesda published game or some other kind of joke prize.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!which in the end Bethesda would still win bc we will use the coupon to buy another product from them..roflmao.

tbh, they don't have to give us anything.. we should be thankful if they fix the bugs. Even though we bought their product, they (legally) owe us nothing. If they give us anything, it's because of their collective moral speaking, not obligation.

I'll be happy if the bugs get fixed and the radio stations improved. (i REALLY do not like Mr. Vegas' voice actor.. old fart takes the pace out of the game every time he speaks)

Actually they have to give us something. They have to give us a working game. Since it is common practice to release a game early and patch later, we are stuck with it. If you do not like it, buy a game 6 months after release. So about 85% of people find it acceptable to wait for a patch. As for you saying they don't owe us anything legally, you are wrong. It does, all depends ono what country you live in, but even in Canada, I believe they do "owe" us legally. Even if they do not make a patch, I am shure under Canadian Law, if you buy a product and it doesn't work, you are allowed a refund. It dosen't matter if it's soft ware or not.

Problem is, everyone thinks you can't return software. Well you can. You can get your money back. The other problem is, 100% of the people can't be bothered to go to small claims court to get their money back, to spend the extra money and TIME to get your $70 bucks back or what ever it costs. This is why companies get away with this no return policy. If you bought the game in a store, and they will not give you a refund, then your only option is small claims court. Yes you can prove the game doesn't work for you so you should get your money back. Again, who is going to bring in their computer system to small claims court or console and TV to prove it? It is just too much effort to do so. But if someone ever did this, they have proven in court they win. Thing is, who is going to do this? Nobody is. It is not worth the hassel to get your $70 back.

They don't have to give us anything. You are not entitled to anything. They didn't force you to buy the game. If they want to be a respectable company, unlike EA, I agree they would/should do something like this though.

Uhh,
Typical bethesda/obsidian fan boy defense if I ever seen it.

We all purchased this game with faith that it would not be laggy and glitched like FO3, but I keep getting screen lag and my game frequently freezes and monsters can craw thru hills and "swim" thru the ground to attack me.

They made a broken game and we ARE entitled to a decent compensation, anyone who disagrees is just being a fan boy.

For most of us console owners (I am trying to play this game on PS3 and lost 39 hours of game play because of glitched missions) it is very bad, If anything we all should just make them do a mass recall and compensate us for our time wasted.

This game had awesome potential with a lot to do, making stim paks, repair kids and cooking food to survive and modding weapons, but all that head shot down because Obsidian "cut and pasted" Fallout 3 and added new characters and areas.

What we should get is at least a Playstation Home outfit of all the Vaults or a awesome dynamic theme for PS3 and what ever 360 uses.

But the sad thing is, is that Obsidian or Bethesda can't even offer us an apology.

Hmmm... 32 hours played and no issues here, I wonder how common the bugs really are (PC version).

In any event, I doubt they would ever do this whether they should or not.

I'm about 50 hours in and the bugs have started showing up. I had a lot of crashes over the weekend, especially while swimming! A few quest bugs. Its annoying but so far not game breaking for me. Still loving it.

I honestly think you're parents would rather have their money back than a, *chuckle*, playstation home outfit.

I always grin a little when I see the words "DLC" and "free."

DLC was created to feed the corporate machine, not to extend the life of games or make them better, or strengthen customer-company relations -- with game companies unabashedly cranking out DLC material that is often a joke compared to your average amateur mod, and then slapping obscene prices on them, I don't really see anyone giving out DLC as a "Sorry, we fooked up." Most of the crap they put out now is game-breaking, anyway. The days of free content releases for adoring fans are gone, and Bethesda's been grinding a nerve for me personally ever since they flipped off their Elder Scroll fans with what they did with Oblivion.

The game was just released, and they had deadlines to hit. If you wanted a flawless, perfect game on release, go buy some graphical trash from EA where most of the programming could be concentrated on making the product unplayable on anything less than a cutting-edge machine and less on story-development and game-play. When you are a game developer, you hand your idea/script off to some shadowy overlord of a corporate businessman, who returns it to you soaked in red ink, utterly nerfed, and sans all ingenuity and creativity, and then told to have it done by X date with Y money, or you go bankrupt and have to move into a cardboard box. Cut them some slack. As a rule of thumb, you should NEVER buy a game the night it's released, ever.

I'm certain Obsidian/Bethesda will come out with new patches as they've made enough fixes in time. If you've got the XBox 360 version, well... Fable III is coming out, or you can replay an older game until some fixes are made. If you've got the PC version, I strongly recommend that you hop on over to the MODs forum and root around for various fixes. Your fellow players are going to be MUCH faster at fixing issues, and often can crank out some very high-quality, polished content. In particular, be on the lookout for the "Unofficial Patch" project.

For those that didn't play SW:KotOR, you may not know that Obsidian do away with a massive amount of bugs quite quickly.

I understand the frustration that's being vented though (I'm annoyed myself), and I would be very, very surprised if Obsidian don't give us something free. Even if it's something smaller, something that was perhaps put on afterburners and left behind being fully developed and given free, it'd be nice.

Hell, give me GNR as a radio station in a patch and I'll forgive them.

Translation: I am an early adopter, give me free crap.

Sorry, but no. Neither Bethesda nor Obsidian owe us anything other than to perhaps patch major bugs. As games and software in general get more and more complex, beta testing them to uncover all possibilities is just not viable. Back in the day, if you wanted to test say, mario or zelda, or even FO1, you had a limited number of permutations you could deal with. There were no complex physics engines, 3D graphic meshes, and intricate quest webs to test. You just did it all. The potential orders in terms of travel path you could take to complete the game's quests enter into the hundreds of thousands, easily.

Rental car companies can't make you put up with their crap because you have nearly identical alternatives. If you have a problem with your Ford Taurus at Hertz, you go to Avis and get a Ford Taurus . If you have a problem with Fallout, you go away and buy what instead, Mass Effect? Final Fantasy? Halo? These are all fine games (opinions and preferences notwithstanding), but they aren't Fallout. The rental car company knocked 25% off of your bill because they knew that had they done no thing, they would have probably lost you forever as a customer. Giving you a discount for your troubles is just expedient. Giving away free DLC to make up for a bug does nothing. It essentially just means people at obsidian just did a bunch of work they can never expect a paycheck for.

What should Bethesda do for it's fan base to put up with all the bugs, including the contimuous save game corruption issue? You'd think they'd be trying to kiss our ass to prevent a class action lawsuit, or mass store returns.

When I had a minor issue with a rental car, they knocked 25% off of my bill.

AMEN! Can't even play the game anymore without freezing within a minute. Better give us something good! :swear:

Lame and insane post, Bethesda and Obsidian owe us Nothing.

Funny time for the topic, http://tradeskill.blogspot.com/2010/10/gamer-entitlement-going-too-far.html about this very problem with gamers these days. In this example it's MineCraft thats the game and the players are taking it to the ultimate extreme. The point of the article is absolutely correct - gamers expect WAY more than is our right given how little money we pay for these games and how many hours of entertainment we get (even at the minimums).

I think all of the gamers who are acting this way owe the gaming companies an apology as well. As long as Bethesda and Obsidian patch and fix the bugs, they are fullfilling their obligations and Then some.

Agreed. And excellent post by Johnson.

Same. Very minor things that I've run into, but nothing game breaking. I've crashed 2 time and it was likely due to me alt+tabbing out a few times and just messing things up. I knew the risk!

evern if you do get a free it will most like be Xbox exclusive again but i don't get why bussiness do exclusive deals as you would get more money from PS3 sales that the "bribe" xbox gave them

The core moral of this story:

Bugs are to be expected. Consumers are entitled to fixes of bugs on a reasonable timetable, nothing more, nothing less.

The problem is, as a publisher, Bethesda has not addressed all the bugs in the past, especially quest-related problems.

If they at least make a very significant effort to address as many bugs as they can, especially quest-related problems, that's enough for me.

To be quite honest, the final game with all its bugs felt better than I expected it to be. I truly expected Obsidian to butcher the game after what they did with Alpha Protocol. There have been a couple crashes for me so far (fingers crossed after the patch) on the Xbox 360 but it could be worse I guess. The gameplay in general hasn't svcked despite the graphical glitches.

As for the "how little money we pay", 60$+tax is a considerable investment from my end, tyvm. I read the blog article and laughed at the reference in here. How is a DOS attack on that game anologous to a game publisher knowingly releasing a game with bugs?

Thirding this. Obsidian and Bethesda owe us nothing but a patch to fix as much as possible. All this talk of free DLC is disgusting and the people saying it should feel terrible about themselves.
