Sent one of my editors over to get this confirmed after she played the demo at PAX. Good news for Xbox 360 gamers. ^__^

There a few games that require multiple discs on 360. Lost Odyssey, (I think) FFXII, L.A. Noire, and others I cannot recall.

However, I do not think there was ever any doubt really that Skyrim would only use one disc. Multi-discs just would not work with a game designed like Skyrim.

Didn't see that one comin'. I don't think Bethesda would ever pull an L.A. Noire (great game btw) And plus that's what DLC is for.

Does your avatar give you a hint? Mass effect 2. I do agree though that a game like skyrim could only ever be on one disc for a console.

I didn't think this needed a confirmation, more like common sense. It was confirmed by Pete Hines a looong time ago. Anyway, logic naturally dictates that Skyrim could not exist on more than one disc. An open world RPG with no linear set path can only be on one disc.

Confirmed: Skyrim is a video game.

Those were my thoughts I would not see how a game like Skyrim could function on multiple disk I bet it might be possible but it would be unreasonable to switch your disk walking from one side of the map to the other.

That was a no brainer, most people don't seem to understand how data is managed on a disc, its usually hd pre-rendered cutscenes that take up the most space and skyrim has none of those.

Those games weren't initially developed for the 360. They were more along the lines of PS3 games ported to the 360... as Skyrim is more along the lines of a 360 game ported to the PS3. Blu-Ray can handle all the content of the mentioned games on one disk, so developers took advantage of that and could do nothing beyond have multiple disks to go around the 360's disk format's limitations when porting said games to the 360. They were designed with the PS3's disk format in mind.

I would have been suprised if it wasn't on one disc, but that still begs the question; why is Skyrim on one disc but a game like Dead Space 2 not? (OTsh). Unless it has something to do with this new disc design thing I've read very little about.

Yeah I think they would have to make it one disk or it would never work out too well.

I'm glad they could make such a huge game so well optimized on such old hardware, due to knowing all about it for 5-6 years.

Oh god a positive post from me! D:

Simple answer is Skyrim will be reusing assets a lot like trees and rocks. Games like Dead Space 2 have more unique, yet linear levels that all have unique assets to those levels. So in short, Skyrim has less 3D assets, textures, special animations, etc.

I wasn't really following this, as I plan to get the game for the PC only, but it's still rather surprising. You mentioned Lost Odyssey, and that came on 4 discs. I wonder how they are managing to fit all the content on 1 disc?
