Bethesda Doesn't Care!

Post » Thu Mar 11, 2010 11:19 pm

1) I don't buy that the size of the game justifies all of the bugs. They knew about the bugs and launched the game anyway, including those that were extremely easy to fix. Some upper ups from Oblivion have been playing the game for months to give feedback on ammo and supply amounts and balancing issues. If I've encountered problems every few hours (and I have, though not major ones), they saw them far in advance too. It's unlikely that Bethesda and Oblivion would ever admit it, but this game was released with a ton of problems they were fully aware of. They did their best to fix the game breakers before release so that the game would be playable, but quite a few hard to fix, complicated, engine based problems remain.

2) Knowing that the game had so many problems, they were faced with a choice: release New Vegas on time with bugs or delay it and miss the prime launch window, disappoint fans by making them wait longer, risk incensed vendors, and deal with corporate repercussions. They only had a year and a half to make this game, and given its size, there's no way they could've finished it on time, bug free, and within budget. I personally think they made the right choice. It's good for Bethesda and Oblivion's finances to have released it when they did, I want to see those companies succeed; plus I was tired of waiting for the game. I'm willing to put up with some bugs in order to be able to play now rather than wait several more months. Really, it's in everyone's favor that they released when they did. If you don't like the buggyness, buy a copy and wait til its fixed. When it is, you spent the same amount as you would've spent when it launched several months from now delayed. Or better yet -- don't buy a copy and wait til it is fixed and buy it at a reduced price.

3) The point is, you can't demand that the game be released without bugs and be against waiting longer for its release. And if you are OK with waiting longer for its release, why can't you simply stop playing it and wait til it gets patched, then play? I think a lot of the people complaining actually want both and don't realize that this is a binary proposal. I find it childish.

(1) its obsidian not oblivion (that is another Bethesda game loaded with bugs).
(2) I have said this over and over before. You are one of the lucky ones that is only experiencing minor glitches, not game ending hard crashes like the rest of us that make the game unplayable.
(3) I can not agree with your statement about I want it now now now. That conjures a stereotype image of today's society of needing every thing now, ready or not, which comanies cater to and release inferior products. If you promise some one to build them a car, are you gonna give them one with no brakes or no engine just because you said you would have it ready for them in a week? Do you think they will be more angry at you breaking a promise or building them a death trap? I find it a bit backward for you to accuse those of us that are willing to wait patiently for a finished project to be childish.
(4) you tell us to buy a broken project and wait for them to patch it to make it work. They didn't do it for oblivion. They didn't do it for fallout3 why should I but a broken product and hope they will fix this one?

1) Oops, don't know why I said Oblivion and not Obsidian, I've played a lot of their other games -- word replacement mess up.
2) You're wrong. I've seen the polling information on the PS3 forum: over 3/4s of users have completely playable games. Even the polls here which are biased since PC is harder to set up and keep stable shows 60%+. Anyone who is experiencing things that make the game unplayable is in the vast majority. And I have experienced crashes -- they svck, they just don't make the game unplayable.
3) It's nice that you've tried to associate my comments with something that you find negative about modern society, but the same could be done for your position as well. You also didn't read what I wrote. If you want to wait patiently, that isn't childish. What I said was childish was people who weren't willing to make the sacrifice of waiting while also demanding absolute quality. If you're willing to wait, good for you, have fun doing so, I'll be off enjoying this awesome game in spite of the glitches. The game being released now does not stop you from waiting for patches down the road to make it run better, so I really don't understand your point.
4) If you really believe Oblivion and Fallout 3 are broken (on a few platforms there are still major issues, I'll grant you that, but both games are playable) then I see no point in continuing to argue with you. I have every trophy on Fallout 3, so I don't see your argument about it being "broken" holding any water.

I guess my real question for you is, if you consider Oblivion and Fallout 3 broken and unplayable, why did you bother to buy Fallout: New Vegas or follow the game at all? I don't buy Southpeak's horrible broken, crappy games and then go on their forums and complain about it, because I know their products are bad. So if you think Bethesda's products are bad and unplayable, why did you ever involve yourself in FNV?

1) .. Fair enough.

2)I'm calling [censored] here. You only need to take one look at this forum to know that people with "completely working games" are in the minority. But by all means, feel free to post a link to these polls you are refering to.

3).. I'll stay out of the lovers tiff.

4) I agree with you when you say that not all of their games are broken, but what I don't agree with is your willingness to just sit back and accept the problems that are there. You know as well as I do that Fallout New Vegas is an absolute mess. You're playing down it's problems. I literally have no idea why you are doing it, but you are doing it.

I'm not going to lie I think Fallout New Vegas is an absolutely amazing game if you can look past the bugs, but you shouldn't have to look past them. Because there shouldn't be any. The game should have been held back long enough for them to iron out the bugs, but instead Bethesda decided to release it as early as possible just so that they could get their money. Now I've heard people say things like "that's how buisness works, live with it" and all of that [censored], and to an extent they are correct. But why is it that other developers/publishers are able to release their games with next to no problems at all? Because it's their job. They are expected to release their games in full working condition. Bethesda and Obsidian haven't even made the effort to do that with Fallout New Vegas. And by that, I don't mean that they haven't worked hard on the game. I mean that they've screwed up at the last hurdle, and because of that their hard work is completely wasted. Or it shoud be completely wasted. The said truth is, Bethesda have probably sold millions of copies thanks to the success of their previous games.

Not that it means anything to them but even if this game does get patched, it will be the last of theirs that I buy. I'm not going to support a company that deliberately releases broken products with the intention to fix them later. That is not how buisness works.

We have a legitimate disagreement here then. I'll gladly pay for a product that has bugs so long as they don't make the game unplayable and most of them are ironed out eventually. I'm pleased with both Obsidian and Bethesda's track record in this regard, but I don't think they've handled things perfectly by any stretch of the imagination. A lot of this stuff should've been caught a long time ago before release, I just don't think this is worth getting worked up over.

I prefer the game being released now to in a few months when most everything is solved, because I'd rather play a flawed product now than wait months to do so. I just crashed 2 minutes before writing this post, it was annoying -- earlier today I lost 40 minutes of gameplay because Veronica randomly died when I was turning in quest. I don't know how, or why, and I'm almost 100% sure she was with me. There's two guards in this building in Vegas who shoot me for no reason when I walk near them.

The game has tons of glitches, I don't disagree with you there. But at the same time, this is still the most bang for my buck I've gotten from any game I've bought since Fallout 3, so I don't understand the over the top rhetoric and outrage.

I'm thankful for the fact that I'm having a ton of fun with this game and shocked at the level of anger people are expressing over glitches.

Well said, It's not like WE set the release date and continuously pestered them to have it ready by then, THEY said they would have it ready on the 19th. I would have been happy to wait for a finished product, but they did dishonestly released a sub-par version. What, did they think we weren't going to notice?
How hard is it to take a disc off the assembly line, put it in a PS3 and realize that it is a technical abomination?

I haven't had many issues so far, but some quest problems and crashes after autosaves have really been bugging me. There really should be some major patching soon. Although it is hard to make a large-scale RPG that's void of any visible/internal flaws.

Go back and read my previous post. I tire if rewriting things I have already posted. I admitted that I was partly to blame for wasting my cash on yet another crap heap. Truth be told I love these games when they work. I never said thoses of us with game ending crashes are the majority, but the majority of people on THIS thread are posting their complaints. If your copy works great, awesome! Go play it and leave us to voice our concerns about or situations. That is why there is a "playstation 3 issues" forum.

Actually I don't think it is, at least not harder than other games. Things like quests and character development take very little programming compared to graphics, so any game with better graphics than FO3 or New Vegas is harder to make bug free, I'd say. Yet I've had no problem with any other game than FO3 (haven't played New Vegas).

So I download the new patch and guess what......... Game crashes. Awesome. O wait. You are releasing another patch you say? A big one? One that will solve world hunger, fix my car and do my laundry? Well gee, maybe this patch will solve years of glitches, crashes, plummeting frame rates and unhappy customers. Can't wait to see this circus.

I honestly don't think it's because they don't care..
I think it's because there are so many problems with the game engine
being so old that fixing some things cause others to become worse...

I've read a few posts by the devs and they seem to be genuinely trying
to sort things out this time, at least more than with FO3..

Know what I would really like to see???

The next fallout game on a completely new game engine... sure the
game would have to change a little with a different engine, but if it got
rid of all the bugs and crashing issues I'd be all for it....

Everyone keeps saying they had two years to fix the bugs.

They were making the [censored] game during that time.

Ninety-nine percent of the bugs most likely appeared AFTER development was done.

Shut up.

Why don't you shut up YOU shut up you gimp? if they spent 2 years making the [censored] game, then they should have spent another 6 months to a year trying to eliminate the endless bugs and [censored] that has left many of us unable to complete FNV or enjoy it properly. if you bought a [censored] new car, only to have it not work right, would you say "oh well they spent 2 years making it, so i will just let it sit in my [censored] driveway and walk until they fix the problem? NO YOU WOULD NOT! SO SHUT YOUR TRAP!

The worst part about all this is that we're all still going to buy the next Bethesda game, and probably the next Obsidian game if it's a sequel to something we liked.

Since Obsidian is, you know, fundamentally incapable of making their own game. And don't give me any nonsense about Alpha Protocol, either.

Well if the game is so terrible, why did you buy it? Could have rented before buying it. Why are you still sticking around [censored]ing?
I'm here to help them, or remind them of the issues, not to cry all day long that I'm gonna return the game. I mean, if you don't want to play anymore,
if you want to boycott them, well do so, but there's actually people that loves the game and just wish to help make it better.

They had 2 years or so to fix the game bugs this is crap i cant explore to deep or the "cache" gets full i mean wtf is the point if its going to freeze lame.
No, they had two years to develop the game. They had several months to fix the bugs.

However, the number of bugs is still enormous.

And I am disappointed that I've done Veronica's quest to the point I must return to the bunker with a piece of technology, and can't get it to progress.

I honestly don't know, but I would guess it's not too good for the console..
which is why I haven't played the PS3 version for several days...
I also have it on PC which has it's own share of issues...

but the PS3 version, at least on my console, is totally fubar and I won't ruin
a 300-dollar game system for a (enter colorful phrase here..) game
that I can play on PC...

if they don't get a patch together for PS3
soon that at least fixes all the crashing issues I will eventually take
it back to gamestop and trade it in... (losing about 40 bucks in the
process for a game I could never play... oh boy!)

and just get something else that's better...

Hey guys, I'll start this off with a reply I made on another thread. The thread was about how to solve some the VERY familiar game crashes that seem to be a Bethesda staple. My rant was not to shame the people for wanting to solve the crashing problems but why we should have to find a soultion when that responsibility lies completely on the shoulders of the company. Bethesda has proven they care nothing for the quality of their games or the concerns of the consumer. I own Oblivion GOTY edition and Fallout3 GOTY edition so I speak from experiance. Well, here's the rant. Take it for what it's worth.

***********************************
Here's an idea..... Why don't we just stop buying there games and laugh as their company goes down the toilet. Why should we have to spend hours trying to solve their un-solveble and never ending glitches while they wallow in our hard earned money? My 1st hour.... 1.... HOUR!!!!!! the game crashed and I had to manualy shut my whole friggin system down. We should learn that Bethesda DOESN'T CARE! They proved that with Fo3. I searched forever looking for an offical statement from them explaining why their crappy games crashed constantly, but nothing. THEY... DON'T.... CARE!! Don't get me wrong, I loved Fallout 3. It was the perfect game for me, but if you spend more time re-booting and starting back from prior save points, then it's just not worth wasting any time on. I have the Game of the Year Edition and I can not finish it. The PITT is so glitchy that it is not playable so I haven't touched it since. Thats my two cents. Agree or disagree, it doesn't matter to me, but I'm done with them unless they can prove that they give a [censored] and that the consumer is who keeps them rolling in it.

P.S.
This was not targeted at any of you guys. I'm just venting about the company.

it dont have anything to do with people wanting 2 things. IF they would have said "hey, the game isnt ready yet" that would have been disappointing but acceptable. But what really happened was they took our money for a broken product and no, we dont want to wait wait wait for a patch because we have already paid for it.. thats like ordering food, if you have to wait your ok, but if you get the food, then have to send it back a few times because you cant eat it then hell yes you want it now now now because you payed for something thats at least partially useless.

my game isnt unplayable now because I reloaded and lost 5 hours of gameplay... so yeah its not "completly broken" if your willing to replay alot of the game, if your one of the lucky ones that runs into those bugs anyway.

and fallout 3 wasnt broken, but the DLC was. any game that has as many search hits as fallout 3 GOTY glitches/crashes/bugs and Fallout New vegas glitches/crashes/bugs are by defination broken. if your car leaves you stranded as much as it works right well its a broken piece of useless [censored] isnt it.

of course you have a right to complain if you purchase a product
and it doesn't work right out of the box... and it doesn't matter
what that product is either...

I just finished reading a thread on another forum, some oddball
forum, and I was absolutely shocked at all the angry, spewing,
half-crazed gamers talking about how utterly broken this game
is and how they all wanted their money back, etc., etc... Never
in all my years of gaming (I go all the way back to Intellivision)
have I seen such a thing...

You think this forum is bad??? That forum is not censored
at all and the profanity was raging to the point of no return...

So I say this, there are a lot, I mean a LOT, of avid gamers
and long-time fans of the FO series who are at their wits
end and really, really PO'd.... if you are having problems,
you are not alone...

i have a game breaking glitch that doesnt even allow me on the strip, i attempt to enter the strip and goodnight... my playstation shuts off. Doesnt freeze no, it shuts off. However, Bethesda is working on resolving those issues that indeeds shows that, wait for it.............They do care.

Wow, I don't think i'm going to read any further in this thread.... From what I've read here you guys should.............(is that the right length of the pause? eh its irrelevant) Chill.
Fixing the game doesn't make amends to what was released, Second they still have this poor poor version of a fallout game for sale and advertised... a broken.. broken game...
all over... for the holiday season. Everyones crying for the devs, but i'm not sure their the soul source of our anguish here. I'm sure devs take pride in their work, or else they wouldn't
make it very far I don't think... I'd say the Devs are hurt just as hard at this release as we are, it tarnishes their name, it belittles the work they put into creating this game.. Somewhere,
deep in the bowels of Obsidian theres a shot caller that has soul responsibility here. Course, that is just an educated guess, that being said. Why no responsibility, why no apologetic voice?
Promises of a patch only go so far. Said it in another topic but this game is still on shelves, how many people are going to get a broken game for Christmass? For instance, i live in a
very mountainous region, quite abit of it is underdeveloped, high speed is a luxery that i enjoy here. How many here in my area are just... doomed... I live in a big gaming community..
Not alot else to do, go 4wheeling, go hunting, go to work, play video games. LAN parties, local tournaments are common here, probably becuase the lack of highspeed in alot of places.
What will all these people do? Will they be able to trade in their copy for a patched version? Those Xmass presents gonna have to wait till late Janurary to be played for mailing(remember thanksgiving, Xmass, New Years). Can't return it, its a video game, you can't just return a video game if its defective. Depending on how savy you are you may be able to talk the merchant into trading you out a new copy of New Vegas, wich just brings you full circle, waste of effort really... or turn it in for about 24 bucks store credit. So you walk out with an overpriced game from 2007, and someone winds up with your money... It isn't fair.
I wanted to return my copy, seeing my options I opted to keep it in hopes my loyalty will be rewarded, wich it should. The very fact we are here, posting on this forums means we see that its a good game,
we want to enjoy the game, we can't. So we're here, looking for answers, or to vent frustrations. But at least do it constructively... Also, as a consumer it is our duty to whine, and gripe when things are wrong.

Voice has power and thats how things get done. How wrong would the world be if no one stood up and said, "Hey, you can't do this, this isn't right." Everyone posting on Bnet forums would be doing so under their real names, if no one whined. Voice made Fallout 3 conclusionary ending go out the door(why they made that mistake again is beyond me). what about... and I quote -"When we announced that Protector Trials and Minerva's Den would not be coming out for the PC due to technical and timing issues, we received a lot of feedback (much of it understandably expressing disappointment and anger) about our decision," Tobey wrote.- Thats right, they reversed that decision. We wouldn't have DLC coming to our pcs on Bioshock 2 if we didn't stand up and say something. For those that are saying not to whine, not to gripe, but be patient and await a patch. I say a patch wouldn't exist, if we didn't stand up and be counted. And why not, if no one says anything, then theres obviously nothing wrong. And if the patch fixes things, if it makes it a solid playable game desearving of its heritage, thats still not enouph. Selling me a bowl of soup with a cockroach in it is pretty bad, takeing the cockroach out doesn't solve the problem. I want a fresh new bowl of soup, and a grilled cheese sandwich and afew crackers on the house. Little ice in the drink please... Why? Because I handed you money and expected a good bowl of soup, that and becuase your lucky I like your food enouph i'm still eating here after.

Fallout New Vegas is the buggiest game i ever played. 10 crashes per hour. I dont want to spend €70 for such a [censored]. I played Oblivion and Fallout 3 and though it is older, it has less bugs. thats an incredible indictment. I never complained about a game in internet forums but today i′ve got enogh, and Bethesda lost a consumer or should i say a game tester.....

Ironpond.... Hi, can we put the club down and come back into the cave now?... thanks.... The forums are to voice our oppinions. Since I spent $80 on a game that doesn't work, I'll credit it to post my voice on their web site. We are in the "Software Issues" part ot the forums so we can........ Speak about our software issues. Are you still with me?.. good.. I'm sure they have a "Bethesda saved my dog and I owe them all that I have" forum thread that all of you Glitchless super gamers can write your bethesda love poems on. But most of us here have real issues and feel cheated for years of loyality to a company that, wait for it.......................... Doesn't seem to care.

HAHA! Win!

I had all the confidence that this brand new release in the
fallout series would be the best one yet, the most
enjoyable with the least amount of problems, i.e.,
crashes, bugs, etc..

I really enjoyed FO3 GOTY on my PC... but I
could not play it for more than an hour on my PS3
without it crashing the console and forcing a reboot
so I just quit playing it...

I am not really angry about anything, I am however
slightly annoyed with myself that I seem to put a lot
of trust in things and these days get let down again
and again and again...

It's hard for me to fathom how a game developer
could see so many failures of their previous game
release and then not do a thing to change that
with the next new release...? and then just pile new
stuff on top of an already proven broken engine that
fails so often that piling more on top of it only
makes it even more unstable...?

It's hard for me to imagine how something like this
can happen, I now have a brand new game that I
can't play at all because if I do it will crash my
game system and I'm not going to risk ruining
a 300$ game system for a 60$ game...

I can play dragon age or red dead or resident
evil or demon's souls or dead space or killzone 2
or metal gear 4 or call of duty or any of my other
games without a single crash for as many hours
as I want and if they can do it why can't fallout???

It's really sad too because I love the fallout series,
but I'm guessing there won't be any patches that are
really going to change anything at this point..
I already installed the 1.01 patch and all it did was
make the crashing worse...
I can't play the game for more than 30 minutes now
without a total system crash...

I decided last night I'm not going to just wait and be patient...
I shouldn't have to with constant crashes...
I'm going to take this game back to the store,
trade it in for something else and maybe get the last
GOTY release or whatever it's called and hope that one
at least works good enough to play it...

Other than that... I give up..
