Is Bethesda Even Listening?

Post » Thu Dec 03, 2015 12:34 am

This is in regard to Fallout 4 specifically... but I see a ton of these discussion threads up (on their forums, not Steam or elsewhere) and not a single reply from a developer. Tons of issues, suggestions, etc and I just feel like after reading it that it's all for nothing. Has anyone seen a developer in any of these threads? Have they commented anywhere that they're listening?

Well a lot of the complaints cannot be dealt with for one thing, either simply not possible or against t their design plans.

Otherwise, I do not think they have ever posted on the forums, at least not much.

They are probably listening/reading, just not responding.

Yes, actually. I saw 2 yesterday. They have fancy orange names.

And yes, they do listen. The features they added in Skyrim proves that.

Man, I would never respond to the types of criticism that gets posted here. And I would feel really bad about having to appoint some sort of community manager to have to respond to it either. Some of that vitriol is down right excessively inappropriate...

Maybe once a week a developer comes by the forums. But they rarely post. It's understandable... They will get spammed to no end and not much will come out of it. Plus they are a team of 50-100 people (don't remember), each working on something different and mostly are directed by the game designer so each one of them doesn't make all their calls.

I'd like to imagine that the devs do read the posts, but struggle very hard to keep themselves from replying or ranting directly

Basically, it depends on their philosophy as a company. They may not have an agile route and their next few patches have already been planned, and I'm positive they have their game designers already working on their next products, co-operating with all the departments

If you want BGS to be your mummy and spoil you then you're going to be sad for a while. You're not working in their company so you don't have the insight and influence to *make* them do changes you think should be done right now.

There is athread about bugs and if the developers know about it ,and are working on it.i looked up the bug i have (lockpicking bug presents no lock) and they are working on it .To me Bethseda are doing an impressive job of listening and validating bugs.

Yea, they probably just started working on the next Elder Scrolls offering... or at least started the whiteboard.

If you do a search for http://www.gamesas.com/user/365941-gstaff/ posts you will find many. There are at least 10 just from today. He and many developers are combing the hardware and software sections looking for bugs and problems they can address with a patch.

Have a lookhttp://www.gamesas.com/index.php?app=core&module=search&do=user_activity&search_app=forums&mid=365941&sid=5badaf1ddf3b9b4204b6ae6929bbdae7&search_app_filters%5Bforums%5D%5BsearchInKey%5D=&userMode=content.

So yes they care, yes they are working to gather information on any reported problems and yes, they are working to release patches for those problems.

u are pretty much new to the forums right?

LOL ppl QQ about everything they dont like every time a new ES or Fallout game come out. Alot of the complains u see (no bug related) are just want to someone want or personal opinions, nothing meter really when is just that person or 5 more ppl that see your point.

We arent speaking of any bug really that prevent EVERYONE from playing, this isnt the same as AK where everyone on PC coudnt play the game.

Like from the Vote charts there are more ppl happy with the game that mad. And really little ppl with bug that dont let them play.

Plus the game been out for 4 days now, we got a minor patch already, give it a little more time for some of the bigger patch.

If that's the case I will chuck my 2 cents in, in case of any unreported problems I've found.

They've got at least one person who reads and plucks the constructive feedback (hard to believe sometimes that exists) from the white noise (such as Psychotrip's posts, for instance).

I imagine now there focus is on bugs and fixing them. Yes some game 'features' need work, but bugs that stop game play must be looked at first.

Currently I'm waiting for the Official HD patch for PC. But I'll let them fix the game first.

Nope..they dont give a rat ass about any criticism as long they have millions of "fans" that will blindly buy and worship every crapp they put on sale.

Individually they do, but as a company 99% of the feedback they get is from their sales. But again even if they, for example, agree with some feedback, they can do little individually.

I don't think the devs even post here. I've tried to bring Bethesda's attention to the motion sickness caused by the head bob (see my sig). I've made several posts about it here, and I've tweeted Bethesda about it several times but have received no response at all.

CD: Projekt Red on the other hand have been amazing, responding to player feedback on their forums and implementing changes asked for by the community.

lol. And you wonder why they don't post. Would be far to many " why don't your care about anything but money" and "you ruined teh fallout" nonsense.

False. Refer to the modding community which has inspired numerous design and system changes in each iteration. As far as technical information goes (performance, optimization, bugs, etc) I can guarantee you that they're listening and doing something about it.

It's hard for most developers to respond to their games, and though they do probably read, who to respond and who's opinion should they heed? Is the game void of life, or are the ones who say it's too crowded correct? Is Karma needed for roleplay, or was it unnecessary and silly? Antagonist voiced or not voiced? There isn't many issues with the game that doesn't have two completely if not more opposites of idea's of what is needed in the game. Most developers have to be careful when communicating with the public or they will surely alienate one of the groups who play the game.

People agree on very few things-no one likes bugs/glitches. almost no one wants smaller map sizes. Everything else is up for debate. Some will end up playing vanilla and being either happy enough with it or won't play or wait for mods.

I'd like to think that they did listen and take notes as they resolved my issues with shooting and having to rely heavily on VATS and character skill in previous installments....now I can finally enjoy a Fallout game. :)
