Bethesda has Never Disappointed me.

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 5:31 pm

While reading the forums I've noticed quite many threads blaming Oblivion and loads of suggestions on how Tes5 should improve over it.

I decided to state, that...
...Bethesda Softworks has never ever disappointed me.
I usually rate games considering the time spent playing them.

Morrowind is... well... everyone knows it.
Last time I played Morrowind was... Yesterday :)

Oblivion is... Bad? I wouldn't dare to say it. Amazing? Yes.
I cannot think of a single RPG game I've played for so long.
One of my savegames claims the gameplay of over 200 hours. And it's just one of them. :)
Sure, it has some worse parts, but just some, like other good games.

What's the conclusion then?
I think we should stop the pointless debate and trust Beths.

And of course... Beths... we are always hungry for news. :)

Fallout 3's ending was a huge disappointment.

And no I don't mean the fact that you couldn't keep playing at the end before Broken Steel, I mean the ending slides/narration was a huge disappointment.

Sure, it has some worse parts, but just some, like other good games.

Sounds like you were indeed disappointed. You can love a game and still be disappointed in some of it.

After 2 disappointments in a row, I think I'm going to go for pointless debating and lay my trust elsewhere. :P

I agree with the OP. I have completed Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, and I sincerely love all three of them. I've played a few hours of Daggerfall, and found it to be a very, very intriguing and interesting game. The three first I mentioned are all on my top five list of favourite games ever played. So, yes, I trust Bethesda, and I think Skyrim will be just as awesome. It won't be Morrowind 2 or Oblivion 2, and I am not going to compare them to look for faults. I am going to enjoy Skyrim for what it is, just as I have done with every other Bethesda game.

The forums can seem a negative place, but obviously Bethesda is doing a lot right, otherwise we wouldn't care so much about how we imagine the next games could be improved.

No Bethesda game I've purchased has ever left me feeling as though I didn't get my money's worth, that's for sure. But that said, I do want to see continual improvements if they're going to keep getting my money in the future.

Sure I loved Morrowind, Oblivion and the Fallouts but they all still have issues that need addressing. Have they let me down? No, but there is always room for improvement.

Ye Oblivion was very good compared to other rpg's at the time, but compared to morrowind, it was not, that's the problem. IMO a game should never ever be worse than the one before it in the same series

True. I still ike the pointless debate, however. It makes the time until 11/11/11 pass more quickly. :-)

Bethesda is a bit ..."balance challenged", but otherwise all their games i've played have been top notch :goodjob: And assuming they maintain their support of the modding community, Skyrim will be a good buy (has 900+ hours of Oblivion according to Steam  dollar/hour ratio is rapidly approaching (practically) 0).

Well, whatever you say.
Remember one thing:

Fallout is just a game, The Elders Scrolls is the art.

Ok, now seriously...
...If you don't like TES, why bother? Go play Two Worlds or Arcania... freedom of choice.

And the fact both svck as much as possible is a different matter to discuss.

Ending of Fallout was a disappointment? There are people who like it.
This is called "Matter of preference" :)

Fallout is also a great series of games, and some people like it more than they like TES series (not me though).
Also even if you are disapointed by, say oblivion, doesn't mean you don't like the series as a whole.
It simply means they did some stuff that made it worse.

furthermore, yea the ending thing is pure opinion, but so is your "I'm not disapointed" attitude,
which renders your original thread as meaningful as his disapointment of the fallout 3 game's ending.

Put it this way, if I ever put "Hetaera has never disappointed me" on a T-shirt I probably would get a lot of odd looks, and deservedly so, but not many customers. Not that I am looking for any either, but damning with faint praise is a bit sad.

Oblivion was superior than the other TES games. The real problem with it was the lack of variety and it's weak storyline.Oblivion wasn't fun exploring, because the world felt just like ours, plus you could fast travel all over the place. So there was no real point in adventuring.Other than that - it was a fine game.I'm sure Bethesda realized that, and I have pretty high hopes for Skyrm. We'll see.

Nah, I like the pointless debates and also like improvement. So I'll stick around.

I mean actually I won't, coz I'm going away for a week, but I WILL BE BACK, and then NOBODY can stop me from engaging in pointless discussions.

compared to morrowind
This is what gets to me, people are always comparing one game to another. It's a different game altogether. Comparing Oblivion to Morrowind does a serious disservice to both games. Both games were great in their day, and both games had their flaws, both games had things that could've been done better, both games had things done better or just different than the last one.

Enough with the comparing Oblivion with Morrowind, it's really tiring hearing this same thing going on for nearly five years now. TBH: Far too many people are looking at Morrowind through rose colored glasses and conviently overlooking it's flaws, but are quick to point out Oblivion's flaws.

Since I keep coming back to Bethesda's games; Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and even Obsidian's New Vegas, there must be something about these games that I like. Most of the rest of the people hare on the forums must like something about them as well.

I'm with the OP. I've been playing since TES: II, and I loved every game, even though I still think Daggerfall overall was the best. Every game had its problems, but the overall product was still good.
However, complaining is one thing, constructive criticism is another. Suggestions on how to improve the next games in the series should always be appreciated.

Funny, you people really think, that without your pointless discussions (most of which are never read by Beths) the work on improving Skyrim will stop.
Tell me, why are the games so expensive? Why can't we pay, let's say, 1$?

Because they have their own experts hired, and need not amatures complaining about their previous games.

I heard Call of Duty is perfect, it's waiting for you, guys. :)

PS Thanks to people who agree with me.
Btw, Hetaera, do you really think I am a Beths employee?... xd

Bethesda is working on Skyrim - that's sure.
There's one year left, and the day of release I will have started playing it. - that's sure.

Probably not, and even if they do that doesn't mean that we shouldn't discuss. And it's not pointless nor funny.

These "amateurs" are the people who buy the games. It's a foolish company who doesn't listen to its consumers.

I heard Call of Duty is perfect, it's waiting for you, guys. :)

I know this was meant to be an insult against people who disagree with you, but it doesn't even make sense.

For example why would people like me, who is disappointed with Oblivions lack of choices and level scaling, want to play a linear/multiplayer shooter.

Well, whatever you say.
Remember one thing:

Fallout is just a game, The Elders Scrolls is the art.

What the hell does this mean?

I think pretty much everyone here loves the elder scrolls, that's why they are here. Doesn't mean you can't be disappointed in some aspects of the games.

I don't know a single person who played Fallout 1 and 2 who liked the Fallout 3 ending.

New Vegas was good, on the other hand.
