If Bethesda lied to us about being finished...

Post » Sun Aug 04, 2013 8:25 am

Basicly, what if Bethesda actually lied to us about being done with Skyrim? What do you think they actually are doing with the game? That sort of stuff. (Don't just tell "They're finished", okay? This is a 'What If' thread basicly)...

Firstly, if you want to... Give reasoning for why you think Bethesda might've lied... Mine being these four...

1. They lied before.

2. Marketing trick.

3. They prolly have near completed wanted content that hadn't been released yet.

4. History tends to repeat itself, especially successful history.

And lastly, what final thing(s) do you think they are doing for Skyrim?

To me, I think they are probably doing a final 5 dollar small DLC. My best guess being finishing up the Windhelm Arena where you do just one quest to get into it and from there, it's simply radiant quests. And maybe finishing up a few small things that players been wanting in-game (Like spears).

That's just my thoughts though. Would like to hear yours.

Note: Like I said, this is a "What If" thread.

/conspiracy.

They lie about fantastical things. Not practical things. They're done with DLCs. I don't like it, but I'm not going to cling on to false hopes either. It's best to enjoy the game for what it is and move on.

If they were lying and actually working on something...

I guess I'd like a hardcoe Mode.

Oh, oh. Be prepared for the naysayers. I'm curious as to the "4. History tends to repeat itself, especially successful history." quote.

Have they actually reversed a decision before and released something? Keep in mind I basically started ES with Skyrim.

Edit: hardcoe mode would be my wish too.

No, they haven't. Since Oblivion and Fallout (and I safely assume Morrowind). When they said it was their last DLC. It was their last.

If nothing new is released when we reach 2014 then yeah they're done.

I think they will release 1 or 2 horse armor sized DLCs.

They are finished with DLC, I know that to be true.

As for being finished with patches I think they may JUST release 1 more and then be done with it.

Final patch for Oblivion was released in Spring 2007. (I have a date, I can go get it).

Oblivion GOTY Edition released in Summer 2007 (If my memory is correct).

Final Minor DLC for Oblivion released in Fall 2007 (I have a date, I can also get it).

Final patch for Skyrim was released in Spring 2013 (It was after March 20th last I check!)

Skyrim GOTY (Legendary) Edition was released in Summer 2013. (June, right?)

????

See what I'm saying.

Didn't they pull that stunt with Oblivion? Said that they where done with the game and later on down the road they released a couple small DLC's ?

I think it was something along those lines, never joined the forums back when I played Oblivion, hell I didn't get all the DLC's until I got Xbox live last year :D

Anyway I'm pretty sure they pulled that stunt with Oblivion, said that they where done only to add a little more content later on.

I agree. Once 2014 hit, they are done for sure.

If you so think that...(Will ignore all other posts similar to this now on)

Eeyup. It was the Warrior House DLC which came out in Fall 2007, way after GOTY and final patch was released, and even way after the other minor DLCs for Oblivion... So I'm kinda waiting for Fall 2013 right now personally. I'll say around then we might get one more DLC for Skyrim.

If they're working on anything at all for Skyrim (questionable at best), I'd think it'd maybe be a patch to fix the lip-syncing bug and maybe a few other bugs left in the Legendary Edition. Nothing more than that.

Oblivion minor dlc were bethesda making test how this whole dlc stuff works, after oblivion and fallout, there is no reason to suspect that there will be any more dlc especialy if they said there will be no dlc

your "marketing trick" reason really does not make sense. alot of gamers hang up a game when they hear there will be no more DLC, and instead go get immersed in a newer game. as such saying "Hey, we tricked you, give us money!", would just alienate those players, thereby cutting the amount of profit that could be obtained.

Take off the tinfoil hat, those things amplify the crazy. It won't happen.

THAT SAID:

Bethesda is missing out on some easy cash. If new add-ons for any of their RPGs, whether Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3/NV, or ...I guess even Skyrim came out... I'd buy it.

I can't understand why people keep wanting Bethesda to keep adding new content to Skyrim.

I would much rather they poured their efforts into developing TES VI, than delay it whilst adding more scraps of content to TES V.

Every game developers misses easy cash when he stops supporting title, there will always be people who will buy dlc to the game, but we have to stop at some point and focus on new games.

Twould be nice if it were to happen. I'll wait and see but am not hopeful. Anyway hardcoe mode and horse armor for me and I would be quite content. Yeah I forgot horse armor in my edit. I wouldn't expect anything good like kicking the crap out of the Thalmor and driving them out of Skyrim, looks like we're stuck with them. Spears/Pole arms ... Meh though it might be fun to try for a change. The Pit in Windhelm WOULD be fun.

I just won't get my hopes up lest they be dashed.

The marketing trick is to get their loyal good fans depressed and thinking that the content they prolly wanted (FYI: From GameJam and what we've seen in the Creation Kit) will never happen but then later on releasing a final DLC that adds said content to the main game which will get said fans hyper about and possibly buy it ASAP.

It happens before. Heck, it happened to me once with Skyrim already when they first lied about a few things about the game before it was released and got me even more excited and hyper to get Skyrim.

Well. I'm not holding my breath either but I am saying, there's a combination of thoughts that's really making me think. The big one being the GameJam video and other near completed content... Why waste that? Why not have a guy or two finish those up and pack them up into a DLC?

I'm not getting my hopes extremely up or anything but I wont be surprise if they release a small DLC adding a few extremely wanted content. Especially if said content was shown before to the players and is even near completed.

what part of a "What if" thread people fail to understand? Jeez...

IF they were making a DLC, I would like to see Winterhold rebuilt. I know it's lore breaking, but I would like to see it anyways xD... At least let me get a house in Winterhold then!

Oh I hear ya, what you are saying does make a little sense and I have been thinking pretty much the same thing since they announced that they where done but I just don't want to get my hopes up and then dashed is all :D Tis already happened with the whole werebear scare just before DG release and then again with DB  So I'll just enjoy what I got and keep my ear to the ground just in case they did fool us all

I am sorry, but Sales do not work that way, no matter what sit-coms say..

when alot of people hear development of additional content on a game is finished, they move onto the next game in their to-play list. they will not go back to the game simply because "ohh hey look, they just released Spears! I was going to put this money towards the DLC coming out tomorrow for the game I am currently playing, but instead I am going to go back, re-download, and start Skyrim all over again so I can stab people with spears!".
As such they would make less of a profit with your "marketing trick" then they would have if they just said "hey, we have one more DLC coming out, be on the lookout!".
and when it comes to the gaming industry (Like any industry), maximum profit is preferred

what you are suggesting works well in theory, but as with many things that work well in theory, when you translate it out to the real world and give it a closer inspection it just doesn't work like you would think..
