Bethesda Making a Western Era Game?

Post » Sun Oct 31, 2010 11:05 am

I have always been curious if they have ever thought about it or what it would look like. They have made The elder Scrolls- a more medieval time period, and then Fallout- Future apocalyptic game, and of course a bunch more games! But what about the western era? Just an idea! your thoughts?

Bethesda specialise in games with monsters. The only monster you would be able to put in a setting like this would be run away cows. Also 1 game is enough to saturate the market demand.

I have a great idea too. A world where this exact thing doesn't get brought up on this forum once every 2 weeks.

My great idea was simply a re-iteration of 'children should be seen and not heard' applied to the internet. It wasn't very popular with the kids.

Doesn't New Vegas count as a "western"? It has a western feel to it? Like cowboys? Maybe not then.

Run away cows. The stuff of nightmares if you ask me. The perfect end boss fight.

I think Bethesda could try making a Western Era game but don't expect it overnight. Something like this would take years to develop. Obviously if it's Bethesda that you want to make a western era game then it has to be an RPG. It wouldn't feel right if it was just an action adventure game like Red Dead.

The only thing I can see holding this back is resoureces and what the heck are you going to do the story on.

What you were saying before is that RDR has perfected what any sort of wild west rpg would try and do. But it isn't an rpg in its self. That's what the topic is about right? A wild west rpg. But you bring up RDR which is an action tps.

FYI: Never said I disliked rdr.

Didn't really get we were talking about RPGs only here, and you have to admit the way you worded it sounded like you were absolutely disgusted by the fact anyone could think RDR is a good game.

I just don't think a wild west game would work that well as an RPG. I don't know why, I just can't really see it happening. I think the style that RDR was in was the best way to show the wild west. I'm quite open to the idea of a western era game with a different style, but my vision just isn't working right now.

Damn, I forget the name, but how about Bethesda doing a story about that movie with James Bond and Indian Jones? That screams of Mothership Zeta, so hopefully Bethesda would learn what went wrong with MZ and make an awsome game this time.

*edit* I mean the movie with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.

No they have only made TES and FO 3.

As for an western RPG, it would be cool to have an open world one simialr to Beth's style,

and call of cuthulu. I was just curious on your thoughts. I never really expected a good outcome of positive thoughts. just throwing it out there. and I agree that RDR is the best western game out there. I just wish it didn't have "the end of the west" background to it.

Sorry to let you know, but most of those are id software games (Doom, Quake, Rage). Bethesda has absolutely nothing to do with them. They now publish id games after Zenimax bought id out. Give credit when it's due.

Edit: Just a plain fail

Kind of sad that most of those recent games are published by them. And Doom 4 hasn't even been announced yet (but we all know it's happening :hubbahubba: )

Those are all games published by Bethesda Softworks, the publishing branch. Bethesda Game Studios made TES, Fallout 3 and a bunch of other games.

Ah, I only see the just joking now. I was going to say for you to try Shadowrun. That never took off well, I am surprised. Todays day, or the future a bit, and magic. Maybe because it was pure online why it never took off. I wanted a single player experiance, there wasn't one, so never got the game. Looks like other people were as well.
