Kinda wish they wouldn't integrate anything with it..I absolutely hate when game forums do that.

Oh god don't put that image in my head xD

see, I am not even sure what they would integrate it with.. they don't release games often enough for a specialized DRM client to be viable.. maybe whatever service they will be distributing console mods with?

Probably same thing Paradox did. Certain parts of the forum need to have an account to view and I think you also need to link purchases through stuff like steam codes. It's a pretty stupid design choice though because most of the locked areas are just places people who have the game would go like modding sub-forums.

Hi guys, we don’t have any details to share right now, but we are still working on the Bethesda.net forums.

These forums are great, but there are some exciting things we can do with the new software that we can’t do here. They won’t all be available at launch, but they’ll be rolled out over time. With the community moving over, the best part of these forums will be kept, the surroundings will just be a bit different. We do recognize that it kind of svcks to lose one’s original registration date and post count, I can personally speak to this. But we believe the benefits the new forums will bring to the community will make up for this. Before the forums open, we'll give you guys a chance to register early so you have first dibs on names - as well as registration dates that proceed the forums themselves.

"exciting things"..? "rolled out over time"..? hopefully i'm just being pessimistic, but that sure sounds like some kind of integration..

Thanks for the update, Donner. But I′m keeping my pessimism since I do like it here and would have preferred to see an upgrade in the maintenance department instead.

By the way, what did you mean with registration dates that proceed the forums themselves?

I think he means that our "join dates" will be before the forum officially opens

Again, this is one of the things that's been a major source of contention regarding the new forums. Some members are very well-established, either just in themselves or in relation to extra-forum matters such as mods and stuff, so it seems a bit much that we're being left to potentially compete for our established identities. Some moderators have made it clear that they'll attempt to make sure there are no problems, but others have stated "first come, first served". It all seems a bit unnecessary, and needn't be this way.

I'm afraid to say that they are the sort of vague terms that are found in press-releases. There's nothing there that makes me think, "yeah, this will be worth the potential disruption." It just sounds like "there will be disruption."

Here's hoping the new forum is worth it. (The move.)
