Bethesda.net

Post » Sun Jan 31, 2016 10:40 pm

Has the idea of creating a new forums on Bethesda.net been trashed? A long time ago, GStaff made a thread saying that it was almost here, however, given the time I feel they may have trashed the idea.

Is their any confirmation that the new forums are still coming or not?

We haven't heard a word about the new forums since August.

I forgot about the new forums idea. Maybe they just decided to keep these forums?

I completely forgot about it tbh. I'm kinda hoping they gave up on the idea so we can keep these forums. :)

Maybe it's a little petty of me, but the idea of losing all my posts isn't a very pleasant thought. I don't post as much as I did previously, and very well could say [censored] it, and not even bother with the new forums. Hopefully, they are either considering leaving this place as is, or they are looking for ways for everyone to keep their post counts, rather than making everyone start over.

It's still in the bathroom getting ready. Maybe someone should go check on it and make sure it's ok.

I hope that Bethesda Softworks decided to scrap the idea and keep these forums. I will be very sad to lose this account since it will be 5 years old November 21st, 2016 :(.

The new forums are still coming... We're just not sure when.

One of the admins will likely start a thread here when they have news to share.

Yeah, it was a question of days last year. I suspected it to coincide with Fallout 4's launch, but it is still soontm.

Looks like Bethesda has not adopted only Steam, but https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time as well :teehee:

I still think its BS that all this long time data can't be carried over. Heck THESE forums can be hosted under the new domain name. These boards been around when I got morrowind, FOURTEEN years ago. Let that sink in for awhile.

This is not quite accurate. This is actually Bethesda's second board. The first one (the "green forum") was online from 2000-2005. In 2005 they moved to this address.

But your point is still valid. They were able to retain member data when they moved to this domain over ten years ago. Why are they incapable of doing the same thing now...when they have access to more technologically advanced software?

Maybe they're trying to make their own drm service (like Uplay), with modding support integrated, and the forum may be the last piece of the puzzle to attach, when everything else is put in place. The Fallout 4 creation kit may be the cause for the delay, maybe they want to start the new platform en fanfare with the release of the modding and new forum at once.

I'm not sure Bethesda alone releases enough games to make a personal drm client viable, unless they bring other devs in on it.. Ubisoft and EA can get away with it because of just how many games they release in a year

Pity, I was rather hoping that the new forum idea had been quietly buried under peat at the bottom of the garden in the dead of night when nobody would see.

I was hoping they had scrapped it too but I didn′t believe it. Unless someone really wants me at Bethesda.net (or pays me :teehee: )I don′t see myself supporting it by joining up.

This is kind of crazy. No one here seems to want this new forum but they′re still pushing it. I understand they decide what they do with their stuff, but where did everyone stop to care about what their customers/users want? Why are we just expected to stand in line and be grateful when clearly we don′t like what we′re being spoon-fed?

either when internet socialization became more common (those very early official game message boards and chat rooms were much better at taking the fans opinions on site changes) making them feel they don't have to try as hard to keep a decent user base?

or when fan forums went out of style and official ones became the "go-to" making them feel they no longer have competition?

Don't give them ideas, that would actually be a terrible idea. So close to a gateway to paid mods :nono:

Hey have you been sneaking into the meetings, ill have to change venue again and a new secret handshake.

Sorry but i called it, i said it wouldnt be ready and they announced it to early, spent alot of time sweating over something that wasnt even close to being ready, they were obviously hoping to have it up for fallout 4 and it didnt happen, so when i does most people are going to go, meh lost interest, same as pretty much people forgot that they were still doing it, guessed they were just like announcing a game thats not close to being finished.

Who said they wont move the content on this forum to the new one? It would seem silly to wipe out 15 years of valuable information on Beth games. What will the new forum do that this cant? Seems like a pointless idea to me, unless they are using it for some money making scheme.

Pretty sure Beth themselves did. Post count, usernames and the like will all be lost. They did say, however, that existing members would be given the opportunity to reclaim their usernames before anyone else could snatch it from you.
