Bethesda owns the Fallout series

Dad had been around the wasteland after he left the vault, so its quite possible he had picked up information on the enclave out there and as a smart mind put two and two together about them.

No he isnt an Enclave deserter. All current in game evidence points towards the Capital Wasteland only being "colonized" in the last 50 years. And all current in game evidence points towards the Enclave arriving after Dad entered the Vault.

The Enclave didn't become active until after Dad entered the Vault, but the evidence points towards Eden ordering remaining Enclave forces after the destruction of the Oil Rig to relocate to Raven Rock shortly after Fallout 2. And Dad could have left the Enclave at any point between the end of Fallout 2 and the start of Project Purity.

He could have been one of the scientists working on Richardson's original genocide plan, trying to redeem himself through Project Purity. And that would explain why he freaked out when the Enclave barged in, since he assumed that they want to continue the original plan (and Eden certainly did).

Then the various plot holes and nonsensical happenings that occur while playing. Primarily playing the Main Quest.
Meeting Dad he is ripping you a new one for leaving the Vault when he said not to and not once is there an option to say "But Daaaadd! The overseer flipped and started killing people left and right! I had to run away!" *facepalm*

Thats just the start. It goes on.
The fact that dad sense you on a series of stupid errands that ONLY YOU can do. Because everyone else who is standing around doing nothing are clearly too busy.
Escorting say Dr Li or one of the others to the mainframe would have made more sense here actually.
Then there is the fact that he inexplicably kills himself to take out the Enclave soldiers and Colonel Autumn even though they *gasp* want to turn on the Purifier. *rolls eyes*
The Enclave killing Dr Kaplinski is a blatant and retarded "look at us arent we just so pointlessly EVIL VILLIAN™!" to give Dad the flismy pretext to "sacrifice" his big head and "save" his son to Die Another Day!

And it goes on and on and on. Plot hole after plot hole

Well, considering that you introduced that paragraph in the first line as being about plot holes... And the give the above examples (apparently none about plot holes). Maybe, if thats not what you were trying to say, its just bad writing on your part? (Pot, kettle, Black?)

None of those things you described are a plot hole. One is an oversight in the writing, the other, whilst annoying, is hardly a hole. I guess Dad kinda assumed since you were there and took an interest maybe you'd want to help with some simple stuff that didnt take a scientist... I mean come on, changing a fuse? Turning on a computer? When Dr Li has a whole lab to get back up and running...

Uh yes they are. And there are a number of other things I could sit listing but im sure everyone knows them by now.

My Emphasis
/
Odd, there you say that they ARE plot holes. Now you're saying they're not, and you never did. Make up your mind, please, or is that more bad writing?

Thats why I love buliten boards... So easy to quote, and people dont bother to edit history when they want to deny they said something.

Addtionally about the water purifier.
It doesnt make any sense.

There is no possible way Dad could have known who the Enclave were, sure they barged in with guns demanding control of the project but they werent trying to shut it down. If they were demanding it be closed then I could understand blowing it up but they wanted it completed and protected.
Yes they were strong arming Dad but hes a smart guy prudence should have told him to wait and see how the Enclave acted. Found out their exact plans and THEN tried to work against them with his child (you) and if he REALLY had to die then he coulda then been shot for his troubles.

It was a stupid act that Dad made. It made no sense in the context and lead to an equally nonsensical ending

Seriously?

A bunch of HEAVILY ARMED MEN say we're taking over now, give us control or DIE? Dad recognises them as bad guys? THATS a PLOT HOLE? That maybe he wants to do something that might stop their plan? They're yelling at him to turn it on when he knows it doesnt work and has no way to stop the killing than to try and take someone out with him?

Congratulations, you've now put a plot hole in thousands of movies. Brilliant.

Maybe there are issues with the writing, but your arguments are clearly in need of work themselves.

How about trying to tell or demonstrate to the Enclave that the project doesn't work?

If they did that, we'd then have to deal with people claiming the plot hole was "Why should Colonel Autumn believe him?"

Fallout was on the map long before Bethesda got its hands on it - it\'s considered one of the best PC RPGs of all time. Just because ten-year old console kids didn\'t know about it before it came out for the XBOX doesn\'t mean it wasn\'t \"on the map.\"

And not just a PC RPG, it is widely considered as one of the best GAMES ever on every video game setup. Fallout 3 will never be on Top 100 lists of best games. Neither it will be a cult classic. Enough said.

It would not be better to go to a cult to jesus, buddha or alah? Or you go to the "Fallout 1/2 church" to cult THE iluminated isometric vision of the world?

"Oh might vault dweller, we praise your superior isometric visions" another turn is need to perform the rest of the chanting

No offense but your a bit of a rude [censored].

Obviously I wasnt clear enough. For that I apologise. In my defense i was very tired when I typed that first post of mine so thats explains ive come off slightly stupid. But theres no reason for you to be hostile and rude mate.

You clearly arent understanding what im saying, probably dont even want to, and are avoiding answering my specific questions to you. Theres no point in even continuing to reply to you as frankly it looks like your too busy taking offense at the negative parts of my post to bother being rational about the overall point of what I was trying to say.

EDIT:
I should point out that the majority of my post was positive about FO3 and was in disagreement with the OP. I merely short handed my arguement because as I have repeatedly stated now these problems with the writing and plot holes etc have been gone over and over on these forums since the games release and I felt there was no point in going into detail again.
Clearly I like the game in spite of the issues I have with the writing and the Main Quest which i am largely avoiding on my second play through.

@Ausir.

Perhaps your right but it does come down to a clarity problem. no where in the game is this explained and using suppositions and extraneous information to try and patch the bad writing is just well stupid. it shouldnt be necessary.

Bethesda deffinetly is going to get the rights.
Heres an idea for Bethesda, if not posted some time ago, make a fallout multiplayer or online or both. (I prefer both because i get annoyed if a game is online but not multiplayer.) Or in a fallout, have a time machine that lets you go back in time to 2077 and make you able to stop the nukes from falling somehow (Maybe the last fallout you will ever make). Just some ideas.

*sighs*

One Bethesda already have the rights to Fallout, they bought them off of Interplay.

Two Interplay retained the rights to make an MMORPG of Fallout which they are currently developing.

Three the third idea is just silly.

I'm sorry you feel I was being rude. I made no comment on your positive parts of what you said because I have no issue. THere is no point in a debate on stuff we agree, it would be boring and a waste of space. I do however get really worked up about hipocracsy, and people denying they said something, when its on record that they did. If you way I pointed it out is rude, then I'm sorry.

What direct questions do you feel I havent answered?

Jimi Hendrix : All Along the Watchtower :: Bethesda : Fallout

Which is an interesting parallel, seeing as how All Along the Watchtower was written by a Mr. Bob Dylan.

If you want to hear what other people think, the people who actually played Fallout 1 & 2 pretty much hate Bethesda and Interplay for selling to Bethesda because the game is not Fallout 3, but a spin-off series using Oblivion.

That is totally wrong, I know a great many people who played and enjoyed the original fallouts, and all of them think that fallout 3 equals or betters the originals. In my opinion, it is MUCH better, though there are things I miss. Then again, I have always preferred FPP.

Got any evidence for this? Because all the major Fallout fansites pretty much hate Bethesda for ruining what was once a great series.

Most of the "major fallout fansites" "pretty much hate[ed] Bethesda" from the moment it was announced. To change their story now would be heretical.

As a "major fallout fan" (no site), who loved the crap out of the old games, I'm exceedingly happy with Bethesda's treatment of the license.

Was it everything I hoped and dreamed for plus a steak dinner and a massage? No. It let me down in places. But I sure as shootin' don't hate Bethesda over it. They in no way "ruined" anything.

I feel the same way. I think that if falllout was made today for the first time, with the same people that made it, and never had any intention of using GURPS, then I think it would look like what we see today: A Deus-Ex stype FP Role Playing game.

I haven't played FO3 yet, since my video card can't handle FO3 yet. However, I'm one of the fans of Fallout that has been skeptical about Bethesda's making a Fallout 3. I have been vocal about the exploding cars, the Fat Man (OK, that maybe makes sense somehow) and the 'violence-over-the-top is fun' angle both Todd and Pete as company execs have marketed this game with. [Note that I have nothing against either Todd or Pete personally; it is their functions and what they have said as execs I critisize].

I also think? that Tim Cain? or another one of the original Fallout devs have said that they were trying to make a true Pen and Paper experience as possible. That's why they choose turn-based combat and the open endedness, and the exploration and freedom in the first Fallout.

As for the story in Fallout 3...well....

I still don't why or how Bethesda moved the supermutants to the East Coast. Yes, the apparentlt fled eastwards, but I thought supermutants were supposed to be sterile - unless, of course, this is a different type of supermutants that looks way too much like the (burned) zombies from Oblivion.
The Brotherhood of Steel is now some sort of knights of the wasteland? moving down supermutants everywhere? or something like that. Not the 'neutral guys' from the first two games that only does what they want; scouring for weapons and new technology.

In the first Fallout game, you could actually convince the bad person at the end do himself in or persuade? him that what he was trying to do was wrong. It seems you can't do this in Fallout 3. That's a design choice made by Bethesda, and is of course, well within the rights. But this beg the question: Is violence always the correct answer for correcting a (bad) situation.

It also sounds like the main quest (again) is not that great, but the main quests are far better than the main quest. Even maybe to the point of other main quests in other computer rpgs.

At the end of the day, though, I will probably only care if the game is fun to play...

There's an explanation in game, but I won't spoil it for you.

Not really. Without giving it away too much, the old Brotherhood of Steel still exists in Fallout 3.

The VAST majority of oldschool Fallout fans hate Fallout 3. Let me tell you something, when Bethesda's Fallout 3 was announced, EVERYONE was claiming to be HUGE Fallout fans. And yet they did nothing but bash the games. Some even called them completely unplayable by today's standards. Fallout fans indeed. The same thing persists today. Everyone is a Fallout fan, yet nobody likes Fallout games. Except Fallout 3 of course, Fallout 3 was the perfect modern reboot the series needed! All the best aspects of Fallout and the Elder Scrolls rolled up into one awesome package! Now go to NMA or DAC and tell them that. Then come back here and cry about how mean they were to you all the while preaching your credentials as a Fallout Fan, while everyone agrees and coddles you.

To put it simply, just because you SAY you are a true Fallout fan doesn't make it true. Half of the Fallout 3 dev team never even PLAYED a Fallout game. Yet according to Todd Howard, they were all HUGE Fallout fans. Impressive eh? That you can love something you have never experienced. And before anybody says anything, NMA and DAC deserve the respect of every Fallout fan. It they don't have yours, then you are nothing but a poseur. They're the only thing that kept the series alive.

Just to tell you Reitsuki, the ingame explanation for Super Mutants goes completely against pre-established canon.
Spoiler
The entire Idea of the FEV Vats at the Mariposa Military Base was that they were the ONLY ONES IN THE WORLD. Bethesda completely ignored that, and people aren't happy about it.
