Bethesda please don't tell us anything about the story

Post » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:32 am

Title says it all really but I think that its been a long time since I felt this excited about a game and I really feel the mystery and guess what is what really add to the anticipation, I know at E3 they said they wouldn't ruin the story that day but I hope they keep to the silence until release, tell me about mechanics, stats, perks, more on crafting maybe introduce some companions and talk about the effects of morality but please keep the villains, heroes and dilemma to yourself the mystery is what will keep me going till November

I want JUST enough info to shut up the crackpot theories (family is dead, player is an android, it's all a simulation) etc.

Well it's only been, what, a week or two since they released a fair bit of gameplay. I agree no more story, but some gameplay deets would be nice. They could dribble it out bi-weekly til release. Question is, WHAT to release??? I don't think some backstory of the factions in FO4 would hurt. Reason I say this is because once in game, being limited by conversations and our personal interpretation (good or bad) can sometimes end up making you choose something you weren't aiming for. On the other hand, 200 years has passed so miscommunication is likely... Some other things they could tantalise us with are a few more looks at some of the settlements, creatures, more info re: crafting (is it just weapons, armour and towns we craft or are there more utilitarian things we can craft, like an expanded backpack, radio, binoculars, snares, etc etc. Is there a needs based mode built in? (food/water/sleep). Or would that spoil the game when it does come out? I dunno.

I do wish they would trickle out a little more information.

Hell, if they gave us a reveal every week they would only have to tell us 18 new things about the game between now and then.

OP, out there, there are at least hundreds of thousand people scratching their desks waiting for a new info to come out (including me) ._. The forum might not run out of something to talk about, but you know, talking about the same things a hundred times is at the least... Tedious -w-'

They won't reveal it cause the story is gonna svck and a basic marketing principle is to show off your best qualities, not the worst.

Q: "Hey Todd, can't you tell us more about the story?"

T: *laughs* "Sorry, we can't do that... However, you can now play with your pip-boy! And oh, we added Preston Garvey to Fallout Shelter..."

I agree. I am very excited for this game and want to know more, but I prefer they keep the story to themselves. I think they also need to keep the factions, or the factions intentions, quiet as well. You want to know what they are up to? That is what dialog in game is for, and you use the info provided to make your choice. If you end up disappointed with that choice, REPLAY TIME!

I just hope the story has some meat to it. One of the biggest let-downs of Skyrim for me was how short the faction quest-lines were. In Oblivion you could build a whole character around a guild's quest-line because they were big enough to almost be a main story all by themselves. In Skyrim, each 'guild' had about four hours worth of play before you finished the quest an ran the whole show.

I'm not naive enough to expect stellar writing, but here's hoping it at least keeps us engaged for a while.

I hope Bethesda could also connect the story with the fact that the wasteland is slowly rebuilding... I don't know the exact timeline (yet), and I assume these things happen between FO3 and FO:NV

In the West, the Enclave is destroyed, the NCR reigns as a powerful nation founded on old ideals, and the lights of Vegas attracts all (and war later)...

In the Central, the BoS chapter might have also build a fledgling civilisation, the Pitt might have cured troglodyte mutation and with its industry, develops into an industrial society, and the banner of Caesar looms over...

In the East, the Enclave also found no purchase, and the waters of the Potomac is purified for all, and the BoS takes charge... For better or worse. (I hope they also change from idealistic "knights" to a more pragmatist organisation)

Boston takes a pace forward, into destruction, or salvation...

The year 2377 is the year the US is excepted to be hospitable again, as the games slowly near that point i get this feel more and more that eventually when were about to reach that point and the wasteland is starting to form into a real society again...someones gonna drop a whole new set of nukes or something

Well not to be 'that guy', I'm hoping for as full of a reveal as possible; ideally we'll be getting a Prima Strategy Guide prior to release so we can get an overview of the whole story. My issue with going into Beth games blind is that roleplaying someone totally uninvested in any of the conflicts the game brings to the table is boring. For example, if you go into Fallout 3 roleplaying a character who is obsessed with the NCR, you're going to be disappointed. However, if you know ahead of time slavery plays a major role in the capital wasteland, you can build a character around the idea; either a cruel slaver or a freedom-loving liberator.
This was one of my initial pitfalls with New Vegas; I went in thinking I was going to side with the BoS, not realizing that they were a fundamentally different BoS than you encounter in Fallout 3 (I hadn't played or read about Fallout 1 and 2 at that point, so I didn't really get that Lyon's Brotherhood was totally different in beliefs). Had I known beforehand who the Brotherhood were, I would have altered my character accordingly to be more of a cold, uncaring technocrat.

All of the Fallout games have the same, basic story: find 'n fight. In 1, it was find the water chip then fight The Master; in 2, it was find the GECK then fight the Enclave; in 3, it was find your father then fight the Enclave again. In New Vegas, it was find the guy who shot you then fight the NCR/Legion/both. My guess is that 4's MQ is going to be you trying to find your family and then getting caught up in some power struggle over advanced technology or something. There's not much for Bethesda to really spoil, especially since this forum has speculated it to death already.
