Bethesda, Please make Fallout 1 & 2 for - Poll

Post » Sat Dec 03, 2011 7:26 pm

Bethesda,
Please make the past Fallout games for the current generation consoles (Like PS3 and 360) because I read on the web that they are nice games and I do not own my personal PC for gaming and as much as I like Fallout 3 and Oblivion, I can't see myself getting a PC for just a couple games.

I hope that Bethesda is considering a port over to the consoles sooner or later.

It works well for most PSone games to PS3 (and some PSP to PS2 port overs) because some gamers do not have the benefit of playing certain games.

Anyone else thinks that it would be a cool move if Bethesda lets those who are unfamiliar with past Fallout games port them to the current consoles?

They'd have to recode both engines, somehow jam the interface into a console control scheme, and then watch it not sell because it's not 3d and shooting all the time. Any halfway modern PC can run them, by this point. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I'm pretty sure that Bethesda doesn't own the rights to Fallout 1/2 though...

You don't need a super gaming computer to run them though. Pretty much anything will do.

I would like to Vote No: Beth should not remake them for any system. If they remake them they would have to change alot of what made the first two fallouts so great. They would have to change alot of the advlt humor and they would have to make it so you can't hurt kids. Places like the Golden Globes and Cat's Paw would have to be cut or changed severely. Maybe even the humbologists would have to go or be changed.

In Short, the first two got away with things that could not be or will not be done today. :fallout:

You're asking the wrong people, Interplay remains the publisher of the original games so they're the ones you'd need to convince. From my understanding now that Bethesda owns the IP they'd have to approve this but that's secondary to convincing Interplay.

Porting old games like this isn't easy and that's a lot of work for a game easily obtainable for the PC particularly when just about any modern computer can run these. Any computer that can get online and doesn't struggle with modern internet browsers shouldn't have any problems with Fallout 1 and 2.

Are you sure?

Because I heard that Grand Theft Auto series and Red Dead got away with a lot of things. Even Dante's Inferno let you kill babies (souls in Hell) and that did not stop them.

Does anyone have faith that Bethesda can do it without watering it down? because if game is that great then it should stay the same.

Its worth a shot to talk about it. Lets keep the console vs PC wars out of it too, Maybe that poll "gamers should invest in a PC" was a poor choice I added but fair as long as folks think this is not like asking to port over Halo to PS3 or Metal Gear Solid 4 to Xbox. Just a chance so everyone can enjoy all the Fallout games.

I don't have faith in the Beth. Seeing as how their version of FO3 was the least advlt/mature of the fallout games. Beth already has a clear stance on the harming of children in their games. So the ability to end kids in FO1 and FO2 will be gone. I don't see Beth making a game where we can become a "porm star". They want to make as much money as they can, who can blame them for that? they are a business. Best way for them to reach as many people as possible is to water down the games (FO1 and FO2) as not to offened people.

I hope Beth does not have a problem publishing games that are more advlt/mature because they are publishing New Vegas and it looks to be more advlt/mature like the Originals. I hope they make FO4 more mature then FO3.

While it's not going to happen, it would be an interesting addition to XBLA.

About the only "benefit" (and I do use the term loosely) to porting it would be for people who don't own a PC at all. It's not like the originals are graphically taxing, to the extent that if your computer can surf the internet, it can chew FO and FO2 up and spit them out.

If beth were ever going to allow Childkilling, they'd have done it already... And I'm suprised Interplay got away with Hubology, never mind any chance of seeing that ever happen again in a game.

Mine's a firm NO - the "remake" of Metroid 1 is what's firmly in my mind here. The games have been updated to work on Win 7, and 99.99% of (windows based) PCs on the web can run it (considering that the system requirements are somewhat less than your average web browser), so there's no reason to do so.

Child killing is no longer a permissible topic on the forums. It's fine to mention that this could hamper attempts to re-release the game but the conversation shouldn't proceed any further than that.

Do you mean direct port?

Because Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 require a computer from 1997. I doubt you type this thread from a pre 1997 machine. :)
Fallout 1 and 2 work perfectly under Windows XP, I don't know for Windows 7 though.

I wouldn't go that far, I found it worked better with Windows 2000 than XP.

Oh well I've never tried on 2000. But I simply haven't run into any issues in XP. The only issue I ran into was that scrolling around the world map was too fast, but like the iPhone: There's an App for that. :)

Yes, it works perfectly on Win7. Although there are a few glitches if the game is not properly patched. But like LT_Jones said FO1&2-Vanilla works probably best on Windows 2000 than XP. I would take it a step further to Win95/98. But who on earth still runs those old OS's directly on their computers except on a virtual PC maybe?

Some software and games will only run on Win98. I recall running Fallout on a Win98 VPC years ago, that could also run Homeworld in software mode, but Fallout was a slideshow

The original Fallout shipped with a DOS executable and will run on DOS 5 & 6 I think. There is no reason not to run those operating systems ~so long as you keep them offline.

I remember Fallout 2 ran great on windows 98, the explosives crash didn't bug me... you're right however, there is no reason not to run those operating systems. I guess I am just too lazy to create a multi-boot system. :)

I've a dual boot which is sufficient for me at the moment and I utilize VMware for older programs. Although I'm still trying to get Wasteland to save properly onto a disk-image, no luck with the ccs64-emulator either. :(

[snip]

also the first two Fallouts run on every computer ever. they're like $10 on Steam and GOG and there's at least two Fallout "anthologies" out. also Bethesda doesn't own them so.

also why would you even want mid-'90s isometric point-and-click computer RPGs on a console with no mouse or keyboard that sounds so

what i WOULD like to see is Fallout 1 and 2 on the iPhone, which really seems kind of possible. i'd also really like to see an isometric Fallout 3 on the iPhone in the style of the first two (pretty much just a Fallout 3 demake).

i think i've made this exact same post before, i can't even tell.

Speaking of children ~ I would love to see ghoulified children. Maybe ghouls are not fertile or too old, although human children are also exposed to radiation imo.

I think it's safe to assume that child-killing would complicate porting these games to modern consoles. Maybe in the end it could be included, maybe it wouldn't be - although at least the latter would be easy to accomplish since it had to be done previously. And with that note we need to put this issue to rest, there should be no further posts that mention this directly or indirectly. There are plenty of other hurdles that can be considered and the simple fact that Interplay may not be interested in this - porting the games over would require a lot of resources and why spend that money when most people with an XBox 360 or PS3 also has access to a computer that can play these games (which are still available for purchase).

Ghouls are sterile although presumably an irradiated child would produce a child ghoul. Given how slowly ghouls age this could be quite interesting.

Van Buren was going to have http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Born_Ghouls but they were a bit different and the result of experimentation.

See another problem. I fear things will be removed to fit todays laws and Beth's ideals but I also fear things thrown in to the Originals like Ghoul Kids... If they were ever remade they should be remade word for word, quest by quest and have nothing new added and nothing removed :stare: .

Yes, interesting indeed: maybe it could even effect a child's physical growth-process disproportional to his/her age.

I agree... I was talking a bit off-topic about those ghouls.

I also doubt the oldies will ever be remade for consoles, not only because of the content but it will be immensely hard to port and I believe Interplay still has some rights thus Beth would be the wrong software company to ask.

Nevertheless it would be nice to have a Fallout javascript game for those boring moments when traveling, but I suppose the memory on my phone would be insufficient. :(

While I personally would like it if Bethesda would put FO1 & 2 on Xbox, I think most Xbox gamers would expect it to be like Fallout 3, which is pretty misleading... I mean, not only is the isometric style completely different, but in terms of difficulty, FO1 & 2 make FO3 a piece of cake by comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I personally prefer Fallout 3. I don't mean to diss Fallout 3, but for you FO3 fans, if you ever play FO1 & 2, you'll see what I mean.

In addition to everything else, Fallout 1 and 2 can run on pretty much any computer these days.
