I don't think you understand that there are two different Bethesda companies. Bethesda Game works makes the games like TES and Fallout 3. Bethesda Softworks publishes those and every other game made by a company Zenimax Media owns (they own everything).
Company:
Zenimax Media
Division:
Bethesda Softworks
Subsidaries:
Bethesda Game Studios
Zenimax Online Studios
That's what publishers do. If you buy a game just because it was published by them but not necessarily developed by them, you're the one who's making a misinformed purchase.
Whaaat? I mean as said above if you are talking about games like dishonored or Hunted they are just published by Bethesda the publishing company. If you are talking about Bethesda the developer the only situation where they allowed other companies to make their game ( or at least use their franchase) was Fallout new Vegas which was very good game , and TESO which Bethesda couldn't make themself anyway.
What games are you talking about first of all? Can't agree or disagree since I don't know what games you are talking about.
Also as Wonderwombat said, there is 2 divisions or more of Bethesda. One that makes games, and the other that publishes games, like EA and 2K. I guess you are talking about published games.
So why would you be upset at Bethesda (publisher) publishing games?
Fallout is a Bethesda franchise now. They bought the rights to Fallout years ago.
Bethesda Game Works was not involved with Fallout New Vegas. Bethesda Softworks just published it.
Bethesda Softworks totally owns the IP now.
It is , they didn't started it but they did bought it and are now the owners.
I meant they didn't start or create the universe. Also, they didn't develop the first few games it was only 3 and onwards.
Which is exacly what I was saying in that post so ... I don't get what is wrong .
The only two titles that Bethesda "has," or are most regularly attributed to them as a developer, are TES and Fallout. Of the two series, Fallout: New Vegas is the only game not to be developed by Bethesda. ESO is hardly similar enough to the rest of the Elder Scrolls games to be confused as within the same continuity.
Otherwise, who cares if some developer produces a crappy Doom or Prey game and Bethesda publishes it? So few people would actually confuse these as being developed by Bethesda, so it isn't like they're giving Bethesda a bad name as a developer.
Bethesda only PUBLISHED New Vegas. They had nothing to do with developing the actual game.
You are correct Holy Assassin, but the way you said it, was like Bethesda doesn't own it now. They own all the rights, except for the MMO part of Fallout, I think. Could be wrong. Not sure how that ended or if it's still ongoing in the courts.
Don't forget Xrayman, Bethesda did Terminator ages ago. Don't know if they have the rights to make Terminator games now though.
Hmmm.... speaking of Terminator, has there been any Terminator games after Bethesda did it?
You said Bethesda the developer (which would be Game works and not Softworks)was involved. If Bethesda should quit anything it should be this cursed naming.
I guess I phrased it too curtly, I apologize.
Nope I belive that they now own even the MMO part. As it was said Bethesda didn't started the franchase but nowadays they own rights to make new games and own the rights to sell old games , so effectivly they are the owners of the fallout.
That's why I specifically said "regularly attributed to them as a developer." They may own the rights to some licenses or franchises other than TES and FO, but the latter two are the only ones that people particularly care about Bethesda developing.
Bethesda Game Studios in my opinion hasn't made a truly great game since Morrowind.
Meanwhile Obsidian showed them how it was done with New Vegas, though granted it did use FO3 as it's base, which despite it's shortcomings was still pretty damn good.
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners is a magnificent game.
In my opinion they didn't relese a truly great game since Home alone on NES, but that just my opinion.
Bethesda Softworks has also recently published games by developers not owned by Zenimax, such as Wet, Brink and hopefully Prey 2. Confusing ain't it.
New Vegas is awesometastic and is my favorite game in the series by far. I'm hoping Bethesda takes some cues from it but......
Anyways, Beth doesn't make all games that they publish.
