Bethesda, release a UI made for PC please.

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 4:35 am

Personally, I don't care for the gridded icons at all. To get any info about the items you have to hover and that's not much better than having to click them. In some ways it's even worse, since there's a delay before the info appears. I'd much prefer a detailed list. Especially one I can reorganize according to attributes.

That's easy; tool-tip delay configurable in milliseconds. Besides, that mock-up includes, as you can see, an option to make it either a list, or as icons. That UI would be perfect, easily the best I've ever seen.

I don't agree with the OP.

Having now played Skyrim on the Console I can assure him/her that the UI was not created with the console in mind. Not at ALL.

The UI itself is unclear and too small for the console/tv.
The font is so small as to be unreadable unless you are sitting around a foot from the tv.
The UI doesnt provide the information needed by the player.
The Compass is so small and bland as to be useless.

Having seen the PC screenies (not played the PC version yet) the UI looks MUCH better on PC than on Xbox. Much better.

The UI is annoying at first but once you get used to it, it's great. Stop acting like children and give it a chance.

You need to get a new tv, because the UI is very obviously made for consoles. Hell, Skyrim was developed for 360. While I think the UI is fine on PC, you cannot say it is made for PC... I'm sorry.

I never said it was made for the PC.

I said I can assure you that it isnt made for consoles; because on the console it is illegible and near useless unless you are sitting very close to the television.

And not everyone can afford a giant plasma telly to be able to see the UI "just fine" mate.

Now...Beth, what the hell were you thinking when you designed the UI?

Bethesda has never patched anything major before, so I don't expect them to lift a finger to fix the gui either. They have already pushed out 7 million copies of Skyrim in the first week of release so money should not be an issue.

Modders are left to clean up their mess as usual. That's the way it has always been and always will be. The good thing is there most likely will be a good gui mod released a some point. TES series has always had some very talented modders.

So it seems it suits niether pc or console. Priceless. Apparantly the UI wasn't designed for a gaming system at all. Style over substance, form over functionality. It was designed by an "artiste" and meant to hang on a ferking wall! [censored] on a bull useless, that lot.

I'll take 20.

It should have looked like that from the beginning for PC. Though most likely a mod will have to fix the UI I doubt Bethesda will bother with the UI.

The UI is made for XBOX/PS3 players, that's obvious.

I could live with a UI that is completely usable using only the keyboard or only the mouse, but neither is an option. You will always have to use both, i.e. while enchanting or smithing, when you're asked to confirm the creation of an item, you must click yes with the mouse, while the rest of the creation process can be done entirely with the keyboard only. Just horrible IMHO!

Also, quitting the game is a pain. Luckily, the old console command qqq still works. This means that I can quit the game within 5 seconds, by hitting F5 (default quicksave button), ~ and qqq, then enter. :)

Perhaps how it is navigated and accessed, but it is still horrid and ugly. Especially the 'Skills' menu. Sure it looks pretty and all artsy, but it's just [censored] annoying to use. They should have just went with a list of skills on the left, and the perk tree appearing on the right (or something like that).

Also not having all my equipped items together is a pain as well.

20+ year long PC gamer and I like the UI. Use WASD for everything, get in and get out, works like a charm. I probably won't even look for Darn's UI this game, because I like the default.

Nice to hear someone is happy. I'm still can't get used to it. And for the other poster, Skyrim is a pure console port. A fov of 100? Give me a break. no wonder I was getting dizzy. That setting was meant for watching the game from afar just like the big ass fonts.
