Bethesda, release a UI made for PC please.

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:25 am

It's clear the present UI is made exclusively for game pads. Congrats. You can make a UI for gamepads. A prestigious accomplishment indeed.

Now please release a UI designed with mouse and keyboard in mind. CDPR did this, it's possible. They released a patch that improved the UI for TW2. If they can do it with a fraction of the budget you have, so can you.

Signed: a PC user who uses mouse and Keyboard. *gasp*

Beth's UI reminds me of FF XIV's UI lol, way too many clicks to get to 1 thing :celebration:

The UI is terrible. I could do better with fingerpaints during a sneezing fit. Something is already in the works according to the mod forum, though.

That's because it's an infinite string of lists. These don't take full advantage of the mouse, and they are time consuming to navigate. I really don't think it's too much to ask. Like I said, the community asked CDPR to improve the UI of TW2, and they did just that. It's not perfect mind you, as TW's inventory is clearly for gamepads as well, but at least they made some effort. Bethesda is several times larger than CDPR with a larger team and deeper pockets. Hell, CDPR is basically an indie company by comparison. But they listen to fans and they respond. Bethesda really needs to make the effort and release a patch that makes the game PC friendly.

While they're at it they should release a new UI for consoles as well.

I'd love to have a UI that resembled WoW. Action bars make life easy.

Action bars would ruin my beautiful clean screen though. :[

God yes, that is a 1000x's time better already. Is that a mock up of what the mod'ers are working on or did someone just whip up an example?

Disappointed but not amazed here. :/

I remember when everyone was flipping out over the fact they were developing it on console and then making it for PC after, Bethesda certainly didn't prove them wrong. >_<

Like, what does it take for Beth to think of this, WHAT DOES IT TAKE? Look at that so simple, sleek and does what it needs to...

Which is exactly why they won't do it. Why would they waste their time and resources when someone else will do it eventually?

Because as professionals they should have some pride in their product. Releasing the UI and controls on the PC the way it is and with all the bugs it has surely isn't something I would be particularly proud of at this moment if I worked for Beth.

Good :) Hopefully we'll get something similar to that in the end. So frustrating the user's have to do the UI work with every release from Beth. They might as well hire DarN and just be done with it. No, no, scratch that. Then he'd have to make the UI they way they tell him to make instead of the way it should have been made. Okay, carry on...

Personally, I don't care for the gridded icons at all. To get any info about the items you have to hover and that's not much better than having to click them. In some ways it's even worse, since there's a delay before the info appears. I'd much prefer a detailed list. Especially one I can reorganize according to attributes.

Someone had a mock up of such a UI over in the mod forum that I really liked.

I would think that there isn't any way they didn't hear. Which leads me to the conclusion that they don't care. And if they don't care, they're not going to patch a decent UI in for us. We'll be forced to wait for modders to do Beth's job for them.

I don't think Bethesda will patch the game to such a large extent. Patches are not mods, but bugfixes. The UI is a major design flow. And even if they do, console players will demand a new UI, because it is every bit as grotesque on a console.
