Bethesda releases their games full of bugs, because WE ALLOW

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 11:37 am

Bethesda hasn't handled a game this poorly since Daggerfall. The GOTY award means nothing. The award is just a bunch of Hollywood. It is given out to the flashiest, fanciest new trend setting game. The bar isn't set any higher than vanity allure and pop media. For God's sake, they had Christina Agulera at their release party. What does that tell you?

I feel like I was ripped off. I have been a loyal fan and supporter of Bethesda for 10 years. I have owned all of the Collector's Editions for their games, including Skyrim's CE.

And I am rewarded with Beth yet again, releasing a game that was too big for them.

Their entire philosophy is that quantity is more important than quality. They are a rich gaming company, so their edge with being able to make these signature style giant Bethesda games with pretty music, and open ended thrill, nets them massive amounts of profit.

And that money is all that they want. They don't give a crap about whether or not their games have tons of bugs. As a matter of fact, in the "making of Skyrim" dvd that comes with the collector's edition, you actually see Todd Howard and his cronies laughing hysterically at the bugs, as they are watching them on screen.

I actually had the horse that was pulling the carriage with me in it as a prisoner during the opening sequence glitch, and fly into the sky causing the carriage with me, ralof and ulfric and lokir freeze. I had to dashboard and start over.

That is absolutely PATHETIC. And I just told a true story.

What do I get for the rest of my first week's worth of gameplay after picking up my pre order?

Dead npc's doing the splits, randomly hanging from treetops. Npc's that I needed to speak to in order to start/complete quests.

Backwards flying dragons and broken resistances I can handle. No big deal. But broken quests everywhere? There are dozens of reported bugged quests on the uesp wiki. So many, that the quests are unable to even be completed.

Glitches, and silly stuff is one thing. But broken quests, and massive scale bugs like this are unacceptable. I would be embarrassed if I were the creator of Skyrim.

But Bethesda already realizes that most of the gaming world are ignorant people who just like to see the "ooooh, ahhhhh" stuff, like dragons breathing fire, and mostly hack and slash, getting a thrill out of being able to murder innocent people. Finding it fun to run around with no clothes on, kicking the plates off of tables.

Bethesda figures that if they could give most of the half-brained teenage gaming world a game where they could do that, then of course they would clench game of the year in no time.

Those of us mature, seasoned RPG players need to stop expecting anything more. Bethsda has no incentive to care about the amount of bugs in their games.

And that is simply because they can. They have the power, and support to get away with it. In their eyes, the amount of idiots who just love running around, hacking and slashing outnumber the amount of people who want to complete an RPG's quests, and really feel like they are living out their fantasies of being a hero in a realistic world.

Every new Elder Scrolls game that has come out, has failed to give me that. How can I experience that when mammoths are flying through the air, npc's are found dead for no reason with half of their bodies lodged into rocks?

If there were more people like me who demanded more excellence, and quality out of Bethesda, then this wouldn't be ALLOWED to happen. Bethesda wouldn't dare release their games containing this many bugs. But since the drooling meat head gaming world doesn't care, neither do they.

I have had very few problems with the game actually less problems with it than with Oblivion and Morrowind. You have to realize that these kind of games will always have bugs , glitches and so forth. Because its impossible to fix everything within development time.

While broadly true, I think you should at least give some slack considering the scope and complexity of the game.

There are no games with this level of complexity out there, so its hard to compare what is "reasonable" for amount of bugs.

So basically we should stop buying bethesda TES games unless they fix bugs... Going to be hard to wait half a year longer when you know the game is there.

Milkiway - why? I want to know why is this to be expected? That is what I hear every defender of Bethesda say when they argue my point. "This is to be expected."

When you buy a car, do you expect it to break down on the raod in the first week that you own it, because, "you have to understand. There are allot of complex parts to a car engine, and it costs allot of money, and requires allot of skill to build..."???

Or do you expect it to run?

I do not understand where people get the idea that trifling bugs are to be expected?

It makes no sense.

Smartphones, computers, televisions, hybrid cars, and all of the other insanely technologically advanced gadgets get manufactured by the millions each year, and people are upset when they have bugs.

But not Role Playing Games by Bethesda. I just do not understand this rationale.

Why is this to be expected? Want to know what I expect? I expect for a game creator to MAKE A GAME THAT WORKS, OR DON'T MAKE IT AT ALL.

isn't it about time to GET OVER IT by now? Some people have problems, many many don't. I'm quite confident most will get fixed, just have patience. If this is too hard for you, then find me a game that is as ambitious, as content filled, as graphically (uh good/graphical?) and as long, as diverse, as everything that Skyrim is, and surely very very few games are.

Or, alternatively, just get back in your box, because we don't care all that much.

Thank you, don't come again.

Listen OP, I understand your point and I pretty sure many will agree with you but, you see, your late to the party. Everyone has had their pound of flesh with Beth.

It's a big ass game with a new engine, and only a few bugs JUST AFTER RELEASE.
The only that could be abit annoying are the crashes when fast traveling/dungeon enter-exit, but since the quicksave is indeed very quick, its not such a big deal.

So because of the complexity and 'totally awesomeness' of this NEW game, -i allow it-.

Btw, the TES games of bethesda have always been so good, that it is one of the few games i dont bother downloading pirated versions before buying, because theyre always worth the bucks. And trust me, thats a major thing for me ;)

ok, so cars have been around for just over a HUNDRED years!!! Plenty of time to figure things out, but also how many cars are trying to do what no other car is doing? Is there really any massed produced car that is so different from any other out there? No.

Of course, Beth could just make another annual FPS/Interactive Movie that's identical to all the others. Just copy and paste for 4 years. Surely this would make you very happy, no?

Not just Bethesda games but ALL games following that logic.

I agree though. Many gamers have a "buy now, complain later" attitude (including me sometimes I'll admit), and then get angry when they don't understand why companies feel they can get away with releasing games in such states.

Unfortunately the only way to do something about it is convince every gamer out there to wait before buying and since that ain't going to happen anytime soon, carry on getting used to it. :bonk:

That is exactly the attitude which is the fuel for the fire in Bethesda's bugged engine.

A company isn't going to be able to sell their product to a customer who refuses to accept it, due to being covered in crap.

Bethesda has been making and creating games for decades. And they STILL release their games with bugged/broken quests, and people flying dead through the air for no reason?

Sorry but after reading this part, I lost all sympathy. Coming from the whole elitism stance and painting "gaming teenagers" as half-brained, just shows you to be an intolerant ass and just another ranter.

Those winers should play 'Stronghold 3', wich was actually 15 euro's more than Skyrim. See if they think the Skyrim release is still so bad ;)

Because its impossible to fix everything within development time.

Only if whoever scheduled their development time was either incompetent or deliberately didn't allow enough time for debugging. They simply didn't want the delay and expense of doing a competent job. After all, the approximate time required for debugging a complex app has been known for over thirty years (first measured by Fred Brooks in The Mythical Man Month)

You're absolutely right. I DO CONSIDER anyone who can play Skyrim in its "live beta version" loaded to the brim with bugs, and be tolerant of it, should be playing Rock Band instead.

If anyone playing, with more than half of a brain notices this massive amount of bugs, then they will be in the same mindset as me, after being a fan of Bethesda games since Daggerfall, and expecting Skyrim to not be released with mammoths raining down from the sky, and missing essential NPC's.

And every one of those games for the last 16 years, has done what no other game has done before it! For crying out loud!

Go and come up with, and develop something that hasn't been done before, and see how well you go.

I know I sound like a massive Beth fan-boy, but honestly, I don't give a crap who makes a game, as long as it appeals to me. Just try and understand the undertaking of Skyrim, this may help you to be more accepting. Or you could just play fluff like Fable.

If you want a game to be completely bug-free on release, you'll get ancient graphics because it takes way too long for those (relatively) few developers to test everything, with every hardware, combined with software, combined with all game-related circumstances.
Your choice ofcourse, but i dont mind playing Skyrim as it is for a month of 2, with only a few minor glitches/inconveniences.
