Bethesda Response

This was in the Steam Update News...

Update: Patches are coming. Pete Hines, marketing man at Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks, tells Kotaku that "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms. Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming." He advises anyone seeing this head-turning bug to re-verify their files on Steam, as the issue is due to a "corrupt mesh file." Also notable: The head-turning bug here was highlighted two days ago in a blog post by one of the game's producers, who identified it as a known bug that was "eradicated" prior to the game's official release.

Thanks for the heads up! I hope that they will patch some other things too.
I don't think I will ever pre-order again. There are just too many issues that should have been caught by the beta testers.

Since turning off the vat-like crit shot effect I haven't had any frameskipping problems. The thing that bothers me the most is the quick saving not saving after playing for hours
and the radio music being so low that I can't hear it so I turn it up and then Mr Vegas comes on and blasts my eardrums away. Being able to remap the #2 key would be nice too, but that can wait.

i pre-order games all the time. This is not a common thing. Don't let ONE bad experience ruin everything for you.

Don't be so quick to say that this was fast! All they've done so far was admit that there is a problem, and that they are working on it. When the patch is actually released, that's when we can pass judgement as to whether or not it was fast. (On a side note the spell check in this forum thinks that judgement is spelled incorrectly).

Well, in their defense, even acknowledging there is an issue within 48 hours is super fast for Bethesda. They usually remain quiet until the patch is pretty much ready to go out the door. "We'll update when we have something to say" pretty much covers it. I applaud the "We know there is a problem and are working on it" taking a day vs weeks.

I'm not bashing Bethesda, I've just seen it before with Oblivion then Fallout 3. This was indeed fast in comparison, and much appreciated.

I agree that it was just decent of them to let us know they are on it. That's all I wanted. That said, the d3d9.dll fix worked for me. I have played for hours now and am even alt tabing in and out of the game without a single crash.

If you have already tried the .dll fix but it just makes the launcher crash, restart steam. That did it for me.

I disagree. Lots of games have huge problems on initial release. Heck, a huge percentage of people couldn't even install ME2 on Windows 7 until they fixed it (unless you're like me and found a workaround). That's just one of many recent examples I can think of.

Well, they already released a round 1 patch through Steam for some of the bugs, so...I'd say it's pretty fast.

Also, your browser has spell check...the site doesn't...and the correct spelling is 'judgment.' :P

Just bustin' yer chops, man. :foodndrink: :D

Nice patch... When do we get one that fixes the save problem? Only hard saves seem to work. I can't play because I do not want to anymore, but also I do not trust the hard saves (even though I have not had a problem with them).

They released a patch so quickly because they were probably already working on it. Which means they released this to the public knowing there were major problems. Even if the major issues only effect 20% of the people(and based on my reading this forum....its way higher) in my world that is unacceptable. So many problems just can't be ignored. This should not have been released Tuesday, thats the bottom line. I would have preferred they waited till it was properly tested.

I just bought the game, and I'm wondering if it's downloading correctly. It's downloading through steam. I don't know if this is normal or not, also I would like to know if it's possible to play this game without internet because I'm currently hooked up to my router because my wireless device on my computer does not work.

If this product was a morning after pill, we'd have a lot of unhappy mothers-to-be.

I've not once in my life complained about a product. Generally, if the cheese is moldy, I'm willing to cut off said mold and eat the cheese anyway. But, after loosing a day's worth of playtime, and watching my hard earned guns, hard won battle spoils, and easily gotten (but STILL hard to find) companion vanish in a puff of savegame rollback smoke, I'm here to rabble alongside you.

I am more disappointed then anything else. As someone who really enjoyed Fo3 and even attempted to replicate the immersive world in my own mods (http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1095750-civil-defensepublic-shelters/page__pid__16005425__st__0&#entry16005425) this is just unacceptable work. I tried to ignore the fact that my top of the line graphics card still left me with flickering trees and random (sometimes when I'm practically on top of them) renderings, and still found myself enjoying things despite it all, but to loose all my work just killed it. My character has died, and so has what attachment I had to this game world.

This needs to be fixed, because I don't want another player to experience such defeating deletion. Just not cool, guys.

Oh yeah, and your patch helped nil, but even if it had, the damage has been done. Does steam even OFFER refunds?

It makes me sad to see people still having such issues. I played 6 hours straight today. I get a very few rendering issues (nothing that bugs me too much), and Caravan doesn't work right. I still don't even understand that game, but I was only able to finish it once. The rest of the times I tried I had to discard my whole pile and then cancel the game and forfiet. So I don't know what's up with Caravan.

Other than that things are working fantastic for me. 1920x1200 Ultra High and FPS an average of 60's. My quick and hard saves work flawless. I think it might have been because I did the save fix though. So after using the d3d9.dll and the save game folder fix, the game works great.

I was getting really hopeless for the first 32 hours after purchasing the game as I was having the CTD after cinematic and could not figure out what to do, so I was going to wait for the patch that actually FIXED things. But thanks to the ingenuity of the community and their workarounds, I'm now a happy camper.

I really really hope bethesda actually figures it out soon however. A real fix would be awesome. Especially if it would let me play in dx10 or dx11.

I decided a long time ago that I don't care what I think about the companies making the games. I'm not going to boycott their games even if something is totally botched. If I get upset over something so trivial in my life then I will a. probably have worse issues to deal with and b. miss out on some awesome games. Games come out bugged. We are all aware of this for years now. They almost always get patched eventually and then the game is there for me to enjoy. Just because I couldn't play it the second it came out doesn't ruin my world. I just do something else, probably more productive. Sure I was frustrated, but hey, now I can play and i'm loving it.

Just how I see it.

I really hope they do get a real patch out very soon though. I was there, and I don't want other gamers to have to go through the frustrations I did. But that said, yeah Bethesda screwed up. Oh well. they still made a freaking kick ass game when it comes down to it! And that is what is important to me.

Yeah, I'm shelving this game at LEAST until the save games are fixed (and this 250MB patch did NOT fix that; then again, with a single line constituting the changelog, none of us have any finite idea what this patch supposedly addressed)

The patch fixed broken quests; I know for a fact it fixed an issue with the Brotherhood Missing Laser Pistol quest, and I am currently heading to see if it fixed an issue with Beyond The Beef.

Saves are still broken, though, which is VERY irritating. C'mon, guys, hurry the fix up! :)

Well, their idea to re-validate the files does SOMETHING, at least. It finds 1 file that's messed up. Downloads something. And then when I re-validate again, same thing. Basically just a loop of re-validating and downloading the same file over and over. At least it confirms that there is something in the file structure that's wonky, but they probably should fix the re-downloading of the file.
