Bethesda ruined Deathclaws. :~(

Post » Sat Jan 09, 2016 12:56 pm

One of the greatest feelings FO3 gave me was fear. I will never forget the first play through of the game, and one of the best reasons for this was the Deathclaw.

I'm sure most of you reading this remembers fondly those growing footsteps behind you, ambushed by the predator who could easily turn you into coleslaw.

Yet, in this game, that's all gone. Why? Because every damn one of them roars before they attack. I've yet to be completely surprised by a Deathclaw (except for the one I found as I went around a building and literally ran into it - shot dead before it finished roaring).

I miss the sneaking they used to do. I miss the footsteps knowing one was coming.

All ruined because ROOOOOOAR.

I don't recall one sneaking up on me in any Fallout game. Behemoths are a much greater dissapointment to me.

Yeah. They are still pretty tough. What's really changed is the Yao Guai. They almost seem peaceful.

Deathclaws are awesome, I still have a save file before I enter the Deathclaws Santuary in FO3.

There is just something about being picked up, shaken like a rag doll, and then tossed aside (cue death scene.....) that just makes it all seem worthwhile. :)

I walked on down into the sinkhole east of Sanctuary, thinkin' there might be some good loot down there.... There wasn't, but, there WAS a deathclaw...... I needed to change my pants after that encounter... I was most certainly surprised.

I am level 90 and playing 1 step below survival and it takes me 3 shots to kill any death claw. I just wish they where more difficult to kill. I want a fight not a roll over and die little puppy.

Yeah, I think that was the first time I encountered a deathclaw in the game, I was level 5 or something with some pipe weapons and no armor. I jump down into the sinkhole and hear this deafening roar. I turn around just in time to see the deathclaw charging out from his hiding place and run me down in less than a second.

Fallout 3 Deathclaws are awesome. And I have no complaints about the FO4 ones either. Now the bullet sponge deathclaws from New Vegas? I don't want to see those again.

If you wish them to be more difficult, why do you not play on survival?

I don't remember the deathclaws in Fallout 3 being dangerous...the deathclaws in New Vegas had high DT so you needed high-damage weapons like the anti-material rifle to reliably take them down and in this game the deathclaws actually use their agility rather than charge you in a straight line. If they feel weak right now it might be because your level isn't high enough for the tougher variants to spawn?

This, had no problems handling deathclaws in FO3 with Lincolns repeater. in FO:NV they was mostly limited to an few areas but was hard.

in FO4 they are more situation depended, an melee enemy far away is always weak :)

You ccould kill big packs of Deathclaws at character level 1 in NV, there were not even many Deathclws "above" regular DCs in NV, most were normal or even young/blind.

Deathclaws are the bane of any melee build character, however even with little to no perks in gun related abilities any character past level 30 can potentially have the means to easily dispatch them. And of course the danger only shrinks as you progress and obtain better loot. Now on the other hand Skyrim's Dragons are the bane of any ranged character but of course they too became easier to deal with.

Personally past a certain level all Deathclaws should be legendary, I'd say 45 and up. Not only will that make them far more difficult but increase the chances of better loot and make going out of your way to fight them more appealing.

Deathclaws are indeed tough at lower levels, but, then, just about everything can be....... And I can see some merit in there being 'tougher than usual' deathclaws, but, level scaling them so they are always a challenge? Nah. As I get better, and get better weapons, the monsters should NOT magically evolve to meet me.

I love my combat shotgun. :)

I just say "Museum of Witchcraft"! I think that was very well done! Plus, I hate Deathclaws and OMG they have to introduce different ones in Fallout 4? Like the original ones aren't bad enough? Don't get me wrong, that's just my hate talking. I really like the fact they added all these variants. Plus, DC's are large predators, why would they sneak around? They own the territory and thus would roar if they see an intruder. Most of the time though, they blend in with their surroundings and are hard to spot at times.

Oh and after exploring some mall, I stepped out on to the Roof top Garden, hoping for a nice view and BAM DC Matriarch in my face! Yea, so there are some DC Surprise attacks in this game LOL

I think that the DC's in Fallout 4 are a true improvement!

Well, when you have arms and armor like that, screw subtlety!

Unless if the to-be victim has a gun, then they should run away whining like puppies :bolt:

Interesting thing I noticed is the deathclaws run animation are the werewolves run animation from skyrim they also show similarities when they throw an npc like a ragdoll and even there roar is similar to the werewolf's roar. And thinking back deathclaws in fo3 moved similar to deadroths in oblivion........my point.....bethesda we better have deadroth summons again for the next tes!!!!!

I personally find the Deathclaws of Fallout 4 to be quite pathetic. They're slow and clumsy which gives you plenty of time to down them. I remember the Deathclaws of FO3/NV were quick and would would charge at you at the very first sight of spotting you. Those Deathclaws you couldn't outrun unless you put obstacles between you and them. These ones are like running away from an angry grandmother in an electronic wheel chair that's on low battery.

When they do catch up to you, then yes, they're quite deadly. The issue being IF they can actually get to you.

You can easily kill one already at around level 12-15, with a bit effort. Compared to older games, they're nothing now.

Deathclaws are... ruined... because they don't sneak attack?

Ruined.

Ruined?!

I am :bonk:

Deathclaws WRECK me if I don't take them down fast (thank you Jet and sometimes Pyscho). By the time I made it anywhere near Deathclaws in Fallout 3 I could tear them apart without breaking a sweat or needing any kind of plan. I'd say they are the complete opposite of "ruined" in Fallout 4.
