Bethesda Softworks E3 2016 Conference Discussion #2

Post » Tue Jun 07, 2016 5:46 pm

Man, as much crap as we give Bethesda, they sure get us in a frenzy for new information! We are all hyped for this E3 show and it is a possibility that no big information will come from it, lol

There's something about not just Bethesda Game Studios, but also Bethesda Softworks that seems to attract us. At least me. And I don't even know what it is, but every E3 I look to see what video games Bethesda Softworks shows off more than Activision, Electronic Arts (EA) or Ubisoft.

I really can't figure out what it is.

It can't be that I started with them back in 2002 when I first purchased my first video game from them The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

It's just something about their video games? The way they release information about their video games?

Lol, I agree, there's just something about their games. I think it's the worlds they build.

I'm not hyped

I'm not trying to be curmudgeonly, Dishonored 2 looks cool but is a well known quantity. The Fallout 4 DLC hasn't set the world on fire ( B) ) and I don't expect that to change with the rumored Nuka World, which sounds like the antithesis of what I long for in a Fallout DLC. TESO is blah, TES VI is still in the ether and any 'surprise' announcements from Tango and Machine games feel telegraphed at this point.

I'm curious to see how the event transpires, but I can't see any authentic surprises and there's nothing of the scope of Fallout to demand the viewer's attention.

Edit:

Bethesda has the capacity to awe the crowd with some of Fallout 4's DLC, but even at that, we're talking about DLC for a game that came out months ago.

This event seems like a fairly perfunctory attempt from Bethesda to sustain their E3 presence and little more.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I was expecting more fans to be indifferent towards the event.

Oh I don't know, I would think most fans would be very interested in a show put on by one of their favorite game studios. Hoping some big tid bit of information will drop. The real problem is afterwards, if nothing big is announced, we get to hear about the disappointment.

Obsidian Fallout announcement to steal the show... :sadvaultboy: It won't happen, but I can dream of another Obsidian Fallout to fill the gap between releases.

I don't think anything new is going to be revealed that is going to be a big deal for me. We'll probably just get information on stuff we already know about, though it'd be bland if that's all they did.

I agree, it would be very bland if that's all they talk about. To the point of "Why'd they even bother?".

I don't think a Obsidian Entertainment developed Fallout spin-off video game will be released in 2016 for sale at all. It's way too early, even in 2010 when Bethesda Softworks and Obsidian Entertainment released Fallout: New Vegas was too early.

I'm hoping Bethesda Softworks learned their lesson and gives Obsidian Entertainment more years to develop the Fallout spin-off video game, but didn't Bethesda Softworks say they weren't happy about the 84 rating Fallout: New Vegas got and didn't give Obsidian Entertainment royalties?

Also while at Bethesda Softworks E3 2015 conference I was excited to see Fallout 4 get announced as the months passed and all the information was coming out I ended up not being excited about Fallout 4 anymore. The reasons were no armor and weapons degradation system and immortal NPC's, but hey they added the separate armor like how The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind has and not regenerative health.

I was still excited about DOOM (2016) and all the information about DOOM (2016) seems like it's a good video game and keeps to the roots of the original DOOM.

The Elder Scrolls VI I also think will not be announced at all at their E3 2016 conference. Bethesda Game Studios might show up to show and talk more about Fallout 4's next DLC's and expansion pack, but I'm expecting a brand new video game to be developed by them like maybe from that Startfield trademark.

Part of the contract for New Vegas was that if it scored at least an average of 85 on Metacritic, then Obsidian would get a bonus payment. The game was off by one point, so they didn't get it. Regardless though, Obsidian's busy with other projects at the moment with Tyranny, Armored Warfare, and Pillar of Eternity 2. I don't think we're going to see them doing contractual work with Bethesda for a while, if ever.

I'm not actually a fan of Bethesda the publisher, I don't care about any of their games except Dishonored and the Elder Scrolls series (and non-BGS Fallout, but what are the chances of that?). Dishonored 2 I'm ready to buy blindly, TES VI isn't coming out any time soon... A completely new and unexpected IP is probably the only thing that could get me hyped - but if it's another "be whoever you want to be as long as you're married, young and white", I'll pass.

In this YouTube video shinobi602 says Bethesda Softworks has a remaster of a video game.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=205779585&postcount=174

It has to be The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and maybe Fallout 3 remaster with that rumor from a few months ago.

Shinobi602 is pretty reliable to when leaks come out from him.

My dream is the Bethesda Game Studios developed a expansion pack to sell for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remaster that takes the Player Character (PC) to Summerset Isles and we get a conclusion to the ending of the Civil War, depending on the situation we can choose to side with the High Elves or with the Stormcloaks and get a High King elected or High Queen elected or both elected.

I can't think of any other video game(s) Bethesda Softworks would get to be remastered.

Another dream I hope is a reality is a combo pack of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remastered included with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim remastered and Fallout 3 remastered for like $50 dollars (USD).

I'd love to see them announce Rage 2. That game was the absolute best. Heck, I'd love to see a port of the first one to current gen consoles as well.

They also have some secret projects in the works don't they? Love to hear some more about them.

One thing that would blow my mind (and everyone else's I imagine) would be if they announced a new open world game in a completely different genre, either sci-fi or steampunk, neither of which has ever been done before if I'm not mistaken.

The only secrets we know of, is that Bethesda Game Studios has 3 unannounced projects that they have that is something they have never done before.

Voiced protagonist. It's not so much a complaint about the voice itself (although I prefer my RPG characters unvoiced except for grunts, battle cries and such) as about the dissonance between what I consider the core of BGS games - freedom to be who I want, do what I want - and more focused storytelling giving my character a backstory, a personality, a specific personal goal. There's nothing wrong with either approach, but they don't mesh well together. I can be emotionally invested and concerned about my lost dad/son/pet rock or I can go gallivanting around the wasteland and shooting people up, but I can't do both at the same time.

Then say that. White bashing gets old after a while. There is nothing in Bethesda's games that force you to be young and white.

Sorry for the rant, my blood pressure goes up when being white seems like a crime, especially when a character in a game or on the game cover just happens to be white.

Me too. Irony is white bashing has become the norm in a society that cries racism if you look at someone funny. Not literally but you get my point.

That's pretty amazing for a new IP in the stealth genre. I enjoyed Dishonored much more than the Thief reboot. I hope they give it a nice collector's edition this time around.

There is now: the voice. It sounds nothing like the character I'd want to make. I can try to disable or ignore it, but it doesn't change the fact that it's there by design. And unfortunately, a voiced protagonist is directly linked to Bethesda's goal of creating a more emotional main story because, like it or not, most people connect to voiced characters more easily than to mutes. I can't discuss one without considering the other.

Stating this doesn't make me racist or ageist or anti-marriage (it's interesting that you had a problem with only one of these, though). My previous post didn't include an exhaustive list of things I don't want my character to be, it was merely meant to briefly illustrate the point. If it was misleading, I apologize. I would rephrase the offending sentence, but I'm afraid I still couldn't avoid marriage-bashing. ;)

Ok I get what you are saying. The voice, in your opinion, doesn't mesh with a character who is not white. While I understand your complaint now, I disagree. I've made characters of all skin colors and the voice didn't bother me (except for the male voice is a little bland, IMO. Much prefer the female voice.).

I wouldn't necessarily say it doesn't mesh with any non-white characters, it would just fit my typical white characters much better than non-white ones (based on my previous RPG choices). And it just occured to me that I was thinking specifically about the male voice. The main point is that my character creation options are more limited than I'd like if I want them to fit the predefined traits and background, and if I lose this freedom aspect then there isn't much else keeping me excited about BGS games.

Well I think we (mostly) all can agree that for the next Elderscrolls, a voiced protagonist would be a disaster.
