E3 isn't a contest. If they impress their fans, they succeed.

But besides, Bethesda made a very positive impression last year and they were going up against Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo then, too.

You said it so much better and shorter than I did.

On top of that Sony/MS/Nintendo are the console manufacturers. They have multiple publishers/developers as part of their showcase. So in that sense, it is even less of a contest because it's literally two different types of showcases.

Give me the Elder Scrolls 6. That is all i want.

Or give me a Morrowind Remake. I know it would seem weird because Bethesda has never done this. But for Morrowind on PS3 - PS4 Xbox 360 - Xbox One.

A Morrowind remake would take about as much time as creating a whole new TES game, so no thanks. The reason I suggested the Skyrim port is because it could be done in a quick(ish) amount of time without impeding the development of the next big project too much.

Anyway, they wouldn't book a big venue like that to just show off mods and a couple other games. There will be some big surprise announcements I guarantee it.

a remake? people would complain "where my dice roll combat", "why can't i use spells in the same way", "why does this house have only 3 plates instead of 4"

when it comes to gamers, they always complain unless a remake is exactly like the original, which voids the whole point of a remake in the first place

It's distributed by Bethesda, it's marketed by them, it has the Elder Scrolls name, it was even marketed with the Elder Scrolls Anthology as "the next instsallment of the Elder Scrolls saga".

You're talking about the publisher house, who also does pretty much every game on the forums general listing of games...not just Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Dishonored and Doom are also "Bethesda games". They're just not BGS games, just like ESO.

Regardless of how it's marketed, I don't think most Bethesda customers see it in the same category as the main series. It's just too different to be a suitable replacement.

It is a contest, one in the name of attention, specifically among stock holders and places outwith the general gaming sphere like the New York times and Wall Street Journal.

Truth be told, many fans would be contented with Bethesda releasing videos on youtube, an event is supererogatory to that end... Bethesda is evidently trying to expand its 'fanbase' and compete with other 3rd parties like EA, Square and Ubisoft. To be completely candid, unless something unexpected happens, Beth soft COULD get murdered.

We also have to remember that Bethesda won't be announcing a game on the scale of Fallout 4 (most likely), and Nintendo/Playstation might be releasing new hardware, Bethesda will do well to not end up bottom of the pile.

Edit:

Also speaking as fan, while I'm interested in Doom, Dishonored 2 and Fallout 4 DLC, none of the above have the palpable hype that Fallout 4 did last year. Can anyone here say they're genuinely excited to learn more about Bethesda's confirmed/already released products?

Fair enough if some of you can, but personally I can't muster more than grounded curiosity.

Bethesda is not a public stock, so that is invalid to my point. ;)

(Also, who goes to Wall Street for gaming news???)

Who "wins" E3 is arbitrary. Always has been. Except for major flubs that can disrupt an entire fanbase, like when Microsoft revealed the "online only" aspect for Xbox One. But still, that's Sony versus Microsoft, not the studios and devs.

Like I said, the only people who are directly competing are Sony and Microsoft, and that's more for hardware, not the games themselves.

Otherwise, it's not a competition to win anything. (hint: they don't give out awards.)

No studio is going to get "murdered" by revealing the wrong game.

Well that's just common sense, because E3 is usually pretty boring and lackluster anyways. :P

At least in Morrowind's case there is OpenMW I think.
