No revision control system, no backups etc. A lot of software development is like that, and not just at small companies.

Hey, they misplaced over 14,000 of my posts a month ago. I guess they can manage to lose just about anything.

Yeah. If I remember correctly SQUARE-ENIX I read I think it was in 2013 that they lost the source code for Final Fantasy X/X-2 so they developed that video game again from scratch trying again with assets, textures etc to develop Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and PlayStation 4 (PS4).

Another question would be: do they really need source code just to re-release Morrowind? The game already does work on modern systems, and the version in Anthology is already disc-check free.

Arena and Daggerfall would require DOS emulator, but that's not a problem, either - many GOG games come bundled with DosBox.

This would be amazing if we got their old games there. I'd buy them all over again.

I watched a YouTube video yesterday and some guy went to Gamescom 2015 and went to the gog.com booth and talked to a gog.com employee.

All of the stuff I have been hearing for years that gog.com employees themselves check the source code to do all of the testing, etc to make classic old video games work on newer Operation Systems (OS') is in that YouTube video.

The gog.com employee also talks about how gog.com looks for the original Intellectual Property (IP) owners of video games and to get them to who they belong to.

The video games that run on DOS Box come with DOS Box bundled, but the gog.com employees do work on making sure DOS Box gets updates. Heroes of Might and Magic III got some DOS Box updates a few weeks ago.

So I'm pretty sure if The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind gets released for sale on gog.com, the gog.com employees would want to test it extensively to make sure it works on all of the Operating Systems (OS's) that they support from Windows XP all the way up to Windows 10.

Here's the YouTube video I watched yesterday.

where did you hear that Ballowers? im just curious.. not saying its not truem (i am willing to believe you), but as someone who has played both the original and the HD remastering, it sure doesn't seem like they remade it from the ground up..

No, they don't need the source code for that.

Here you go.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/643146-final-fantasy-x-x-2-hd-remaster/68185111

The video game developers of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster had to reverse engineer stuff.

I'm not sure if this is the exact website where I read it in 2013, but it's similar to what I remember reading in 2013.

No abandonware talk :nono:

I don't think so. There are some free games on GOG (like the excellent Beneath a Steel Sky), so I assume that if Arena and Daggerfall appear on GOG they will be free there too.
