Bethesda Softworks LLC just appeard on gog.com, details here

Post » Wed Aug 12, 2015 8:12 am

So um about 2 weeks ago someone said that Konami and Microsoft appeared on gog.com's search filter, but was quickly removed,

Today apparently Bthesda Softworks appeared in gog.com's search filter. It doesn't exist anymore and I do not think it's a bug.

Here is a screenshot someone took.

Here is the topic where the person was talking about it.

Any PC gamers here who use gog.com happy if Zenimax Media inc., and Bethesda Softworks appear on gog.com this year to sell their video games?

If it's true I'd be happy. The more choices the better, I say.

But I'll probably continue to buy Bethesda's games from Steam.

Even if it's true you will probably still need to use Steam to get new games from Bethesda. I imagine that if Bethesda games appear on GOG it will be Oblivion and older games. Games that doesn't use Steamworks or GWFL. It would be nice if Fallout 3 appeared on GOG too though, without GWFL.

That would be wonderful if they put those up on GoG. New Vegas and Skyrim too, cause I'd buy copies of both of them plus all the DLCs there. Yes, I hate Steam that much that I'd be willing to fork over for the cost of new copies in a DRM-free environment.

It'd also be nice to not have to rely on the installation disc to play them. Yes, I'm "that person" who never puts them back in their boxes and consequently can't find them.

I've been using it to launch TW3 and manage its add-ons. It's a bit clunky at the moment but has potential.

So you're telling me I'll have to rebuy all their games again to support the long-awaited transition to GOG? I'm happy, but my wallet just made a strange whimpering sound and dashed through the door.

It's probably not going to happen, but I hope they remaster Redguard.

I would love to see an upgraded Redguard, yeah. Not only for PC, but for the consoles too.

Didn't they (Bethesda) lose the Morrowind source files?

Bethesda Softworks lost the source code for The Elder Scrolls: Arena and The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall when they were moving from their old building to the new studio that Bethesda Game Studios is now at.

It doesn't matter if those 2 The Elder Scrolls video games are released on gog.com they are free on the Bethesda website anyways. Here http://www.elderscrolls.com/

I'm pretty sure that they lost the Morrowind files as well, I think I remember someone confirming that here on the forums like 5 years ago or something.

Until I hear confirmation one way or the other from someone at Bethesda I regard this as an urban legend. Bethesda moved to their current location in Rockville, Maryland in 1990. Arena was released in 1994.

I always thought Bethesda Softworks moved to a new studio in Rockville, Maryland before The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind released for sale to be formed into Bethesda Game Studios, because Bethesda Softworks became a video game publishing company and published The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind for Bethesda Game Studios.

I remember over a decade ago watching a video of Todd Howard talk about it. He said they were in the process of moving or something like that. Bethesda Game Studios was formed in 2001.

I've never lost them thanks to my unique (and unappreciated) filing system which consists of leaving them on my desk or the floor where they can be easily found.

Sometimes they get stood on or used as coasters though :ermm:

I am. I also didn't clean my swords after sneezing on them. Now I need to scrub the rust off.

Sounds like your filing system is still more advanced than mine.

That's the rumor.

Never heard that before.

Indeed. If you look at back of the Arena box from 1994 you will see they had the same adress back then as they do now. 1370 Piccard Dr, Rockville.

It's still possible for the rumor about the lost source code to be true though, as they done some major renovating over the years.

Bethesda Game Studios was just a change in name only, when Bethesda Softworks (publishing + developing) split up into Bethesda Softworks (publishing) and Bethesda Game Studios (developing). There was no physical change or moving involved or any new people hired or anything. Everything stayed the same, except in name.

This because they wanted to be able to capitalize when a game was being developed by their own team, rather than being developed by a third-party studio and "only" being published as a Bethesda Softworks game. Cause a game advertised as a Bethesda Softworks game could be either, while with a game advertised as a "Bethesda Game Studios" game you know it was developed by Bethesda too.

Also don't know where you're getting 2001 from. With Morrowind from 2002 it will only say "Bethesda Softworks", not a word of "Bethesda Game Studios" anywhere in the game, manual or on the box. The first time anyone heard of the term "Bethesda Game Studios" was in 2004, when they announced Oblivion.

Your right there is no Bethesda Game Studios name anywhere in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind or on the physical boxes or on the manuals. I just thought that Bethesda Game Studios had a helping hand in developing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind before they moved from Bethesda Softworks into their own new studio. And that they didn't include the name in for some reason.

I don't know pretty confusing stuff.

Im gonna go bonkers until I ask: How in the Nine Hells can a gaming software company lose the code to one of its own games?
