A lot of you are also failing to look at things like how the edges are dealt with. Regardless of how shiny it may be, the edge quality makes it look more like natural hair than what we've seen so far in the Skyrim screenshots.

I'm still trying to figure out if this Topic is serious. Kinda reminds me of the Topic that someone started, who was emphatic about Corn, and was all worried about whether corn would be in Skyrim....

Hehe, is this Topic serious, or is the OP just trying to be funny? I'm just not thinking that how an NPC's hair looks would in any way influence me to play the game...

I was just looking at the barmaid screen again. Zoom in and look at the woman sweeping behind the counter. Her hair looks great.

Someone said to me that hair would be animated. i guess i should not have taken his word for it, these screenshots prove that wrong unless this is a placeholder. it looks awful, bethesda games studios's hairs have always looked like [censored] ever since morrowind and onward. but this is indeed their best job on hairs so far if you exclude daggerfall and arena ;) which had the best hair in the series.

However men have the ability to have long hair, this is a enormously great improvement. so i will at least give them some respect for the hairs in this game. the hairs aren't really hideous if you think more about it, they're just not long enough and not animated... its ok modders will take care of length, but... animated. if i recall growlf made a prototype of animated hair in oblivion, i haven't gotten off my ass to test it in game but on screenshots they looked gorgeous...

in fact, inanimate hair is slightly disappointing since even good old tomb raider had animated hair.

Unless you're saying that Tamriel has all of those chemicals easily accessible it is a ridiculous depiction of hair

I agree, the styling of a lot of the mod'ed hairs you see would be ridiculous for Skyrim. Leave that for the mod'ers. I think the question is the quality of it.

I don't think anyone would seriously say that this looks good: http://img858.imageshack.us/img858/3905/helmethair.jpg

Especially when you compare it to the quality of the rest of that image. Of course, I need to remind myself this is the forum where you'll find folks that think MW is the pinnacle of video game graphics and anything that looks either better or worse is crap simply for not being MW. I suppose I made my thoughts known, time to bow out I guess.

Those hairstyles are way too modern for what Skyrim is trying to portray.

This has nothing to do with style or shininess. However, some people either fail to grasp that or don't care and are content to be just fill this thread with what might as well be span. So, how about some pics?

Compare http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/9886/haircomparison1.jpg and http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/3033/haircomparison2.jpg.

Notice the edges. Then tell me that pic 1 still looks good.

The REAL problem is that the hair is a low-res texture, probably part of the many optimizations done to get Skyrim running smoothly on the 360. I bet this won't even be a problem for the PC version.

I think it looks fine.

What do you want? Anime style pink cat ear hair?

I mean, it looks fine to me. The hair on NPCs heads will be a less minor point when it comes to me.

I don't really pay attention to hair. I usually always wear a helmet anyway.

I'm of course a console player, but having said that, every game I've EVER played looks closer to pic 1 as far as I can remember. Hair has always looked mediocre to terrible in games thus far in my experience on consoles at least. I doubt that pic 2 was a gameplay shot, and it was more than likely a pre-rendered movie shot from some JRPG. While the hair in Skyrim isn't amazing, my expectations aren't high for realistically rendered hair. Honestly, it's about what I'd expect until the next batch of consoles comes out (unless they're able squeeze more power out of the current batch of games later on this gen, for which I have no idea how plausible that is). Yeah, sorry PC players, we're holdin ya back. It's possible that Skyrim's hair will look better upon release, but I wouldn't hold my breath. PC players MIGHT get their wish in this area, maybe even more likely... I don't know. In any case, to me given my expectations of what I think is currently possible from my experience thus far, speaking as a console player only as that's where my main experience lies, I'm more than happy with what I'm getting graphically as a whole from Skyrim so far. The hair will probably HAVE to be good enough for me for now.

Seriously I would take this over any of the modders [censored] which looks totally out of place in the Elder scrolls. Leave that Japan animation in final fantasy or some other [censored].

No, it looks like that in-game. It's from an Oblivion mod. One of the older hair mods, for that matter.

People have to remember that they are using a borrowed physics engine. They are limited in what they can get out of that engine. Hair physics are not easy.

It looks bad because because it's low resolution, and we know that the PC version will have higher resolution textures, so you may be worried over nothing.

To show how the one on the right looks like crap. The texture and the shape of the ends look very pixelated. I just slapped a photo of actual hair on there and it looks 10 X better.

Ok, explain it then because I'm not picking up what you're throwing down. Is it a resolution issue? Is that what you're getting at?

EDIT: Someone else makes that claim I see, but for console players that is no consolation I fear. Anyway, it's not a big deal to me. I'm more than satisfied with Skyrim so far as I've said. It's one of the better looking games on consoles, especially given it's genre.
