Bethesda took 3D scans of people's houses interiors

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 3:48 am

I found this on reddit:

https://www.reddit.com/r/falloutboston/comments/3pxscg/as_we_know_now_boston_is_home_to_the_new_fallout/cwcz33o

Apparently, a few months ago Bethesda was in Boston taking 3D scans of people's houses interiors

So we can expect a highly realistic and accurate porttayal of Boston in the game!

If this is true, we won't be seeing any of these scans in the base game. Their art department will have finished the meshes and textures for Fallout 4 long ago.

It's possible we may see it in DLC, though.

That's great news. I hope it means lots more houses will be entereable and also that they wont be just a copy/paste of each other!

Cant wait to explore boston!

They shoulda' scanned my house to save some time. They wouldn't even need to add any 'post-apoc' set pieces, since it looks like a mini-nuke went off in the living room.

Do you think they paid people who they used their houses? Or maybe they volunteered their houses for the honor to appear in the game?

Why would they have bothered at all?

Is there really something about the inside of homes in Boston that would make them utterly unique to a home in Anytown, USA?

Making sketches or taking pictures of the inside of famous landmarks/buildings? Sure. But scanning the inside of the average Joe's House? No.

Something Ij just though of...

Why are there no ruined mansions or super large homes in fallout 3 or nv? There are rich people with big homes yet every house seems to be a shack or small dwelling. Obviously in the 50s there were not many wealthy people but there were still some.

To be fair, there aren't many pre war houses still standing. There were a few mansions in Point Lookout, though.

As for the scanning. Why would it even be needed? You can get blueprints for houses.

Gee, I wonder how that conversation went?

*doorbell* "Hello Sir/Madame! We are with Bethesda Game Studios and we wonder if we might take a moment of your time to scan your house, in the name of research for a new video game we are creating?"

Har!

Great, now everyone will be using this tactic to case out potential houses to burglarize.

That comment sounds like a load of crap, actually. Like something someone just says to be a butt. Maybe I'm missing some context?

So one person said it, and others think it's a joke or just don't believe it.

Wel this is the internet, and it was posted on Reddit of all places.

The story is really weird as well. They send someone to 3D scan his Walk-In closet. Because of all things that was hard to visualize for the art department that they needed a 3D scan.

I call bull on this, they don't need to physically visit homes to understand their build and measurements nor do I see why they'd ever do that since it's unprofessional and intrusive and just weird, the team would be done or nearly done with making models a few months ago-namely home interiors, and some random person off Reddit with no sources and no one else saying this just adds to the doubt.

They should scan this original 50's interior that's like a time capsule:

A walk in closet, of all things. If I had Bethesda come to my doorstep to scan my closet I would at least take a picture or some proof.

Why would they want my closet in fallout 4?
