Bethesda wants to bring Skyrim mods to Consoles

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:35 am

As a modder AND a player, this is fantastic news. If this is true, Bethesda, prepare to amass thousands more Adoring Fans.

...no, not THOSE types of Adoring Fans. Hopefully.

And if this is not true, please consider it. One of the best things about Starcraft 2, for instance, is all the custom games. I've honestly advised friends to buy it, because, quote and quote, "It's 50 games for the price of 1." And those who buy Bethesda DLC will, 95% of them, continue to buy it.

Oh great, so the construction set is going to be severely gimped so the console players can play mods that the PC community has created..

Thanks Todd, your such a great game developer...

I think that's a rather strenuous and pessimistic assumption given we hardly know anything yet.

Frankly, modding on the consoles would probably be rather impractical, it would most likely be simply that you can convert the files to work on consoles after creating them on the PC, that is IF they end up being able to do it.

I'm fine with console users getting mods. However, the only issue I see is that some mods will be incompatible with the consoles such as some mods that require direct manipulation to the ini by the user or heavy graphics mods. But for the most part, most mods will work on the console.

Ya, they might be retricted to vanilla content, no OBSE type stuff or new textures, but it would still be nice. It would make Skyrim even more popular thus making Beth more money, which is good for everyone who play TES games.

It would be cool to have mods on consoles as well but there's obviously going to be limits as to what kinds you can use. I wouldn't expect large overhauls or anything like OOO or MMM and the like, probably mostly new armors, weapons, houses, etc.

How would conflicts be handled I wonder. Great that they might get them but likely not the same experience as it would on PC with things like script and graphics extenders or high rez texture packs..

Are custom made textures and meshes property of Bethesda too once used in a mod? I don't think (that's what instinct tells but I could be wrong); so they probably can't use stuff right off the nexus or something and will probably have their own way of submitting and approving mods for hosting where you would have to upload it specifically to be used on consoles. It would also be outrageous to charge for mods that are freely available on PC.

All you people saying "oh yeah this great but i see limitations, it will be very limited". It's like performing CPR on homeless person and then once they regain consciousness telling them " thanks to me your alive but you have to keep eating at the soup line and sleeping in a cardboard box, sorry about your luck. to which the vagrant(console user) says " Who f****** cares, I'm alive"

Also im betting the negative comments are from PC users who just dont want us console users to get mods.Gotta love selfish people.

Can't just be pleased with information. I saw a lot of console players turning this into a "Now we gotta pay for the stuff PCers get for free." comments. I play on the PC and I feel for you guys who can't get a simple mod to make your characters look better or move the sneak eye from the middle of your huds or the multitude of other fixes I enjoy each time I play. I don't be little your use of the console over the PC and I don't like it always being us who ruin your fun.

With that said, I hope that Bethesda finds a way to not only get mods to the consoles, but I really hope that Sony and Microsoft don't stick out their greedy little mitts when you download one to your machines.

This. More $ for Bethesda the better. Then they can hire more employees(hell maybe even some of the modders)and make an insane TES VI game for next gen consoles.I dont even want to think about that too much cause I just know my head will explode.

Also, yes there will be limitations and console users wont be able to get some high end mods, who cares.2 hours ago I didnt even think consoles would ever get mods.

If you don't care that it will be limited good for you. Do you want a medal or something?
Some of us would like to point out some things wouldn't be possible on consoles like a script extender. They might market it as" now consoles have mods" but they wouldn't even be on the same level as what's possible on PC, not that there couldn't be great console mods but not as many possibilities with scripting, or graphics enhancers.. I don't believe that's a crime to point that out.

I'm not a console player, but I hope this goes well so console players can have mods, too.

Congratulations!

I would seriously pay an extra $60 for this. I'm not joking. Getting mod access on consoles would be like getting the game twice. I debated getting a gaming computer just for Skyrim, for the sole purpose of getting mods.

I would still do it as it is a smart investment. Even if mods are allowed for TES on the consoles, other games don't have the same option and being on a computer, you can still use a controller on most games and hook it up to a tv but you also get better graphics and have the option of modding a game like diablo 3 when it comes out and so on. PCs are just a really good investment if you have the money.

Yes,this is exactly why im so happy.Just the thought of there being a chance for mods on consoles is epic news.
Plus,we would obviously have no problem paying for mods if we were flirting with the idea of buying a computer solely for mods.
I emember we were discussing what info we would be getting on Skyrim the other day and you said we wouldnt be getting any new gameplay info.I said that we would be.Well you were right, but atleast we got this info.Kinda makes up for it IMO.

lol, I just want the option to rearrange the furniture in my house!

This would make me so happy. If they don't work it out by the release date then do it as a DLC or something I would buy it if it was the same price as game itself.

This is all fine and dandy but let's get down to the real nitty gritty. How will this affect.... scantly clad body mods?

That would probably be one of the first mods I put on my console. If this worked out, Skyrim's success would be magnified by the longevity created through the addition of mods to the console.

It is possible. If they go the unreal 3 route and release a mod cooker which just changes format.

Hackers have done it for the 360 to. But only mod with no new models and i'm not sure if its up to 10. By finding a way to get into disc files and add esp. And telling the game to run it but I suspect In a dlc spot.

But I wouldn't dream of doing it. + I think its illegal.

So unreal route seems like the only way .
