I agree with the OP, except I know for sure I'm buying it, whether it svcks or not.

I know for sure that I'm buying it because I know it can't svck. A Bethesda game can't svck. It doesn't matter what anyone personally thinks about Morrowind (certain Daggerfall fans), Oblivion (certain Morrowind fans), or Fallout 3 (certain Fallout 1/2/New Vegas and/or displeased Elder Scrolls fans), none of those games are even close to svcking. If someone is personally disappointed in one or more or just doesn't like one or more, it doesn't mean the game svcks. No game that has as much time and effort put into it as a Bethesda game svcks.

I think we can all (except a few really passionate Oblivion haters) agree on that. :tops:

Exactly, I'm yet to see a Bethesda game that really does blow hard. They're all vastly different, some I enjoy more then others. But None have ever ticked me off to the point where I wont buy them again.
Which is not what I can say for BioWare. I LOVED the original Mass Effect. The second installment totally killed it for me in every single way.

Looking at history, Bethesda usually do a really good job.

then you'd be sad to know that the 3rd installment is apparrently getting even more simplified......

Pretty much this. Even their most hated on game Oblivion has a very high MetaCritic and GameRaking scores (~94%) + a ridiculous amount of awards.

They pretty much fixed everything wrong with Oblivion from what i've read in magazines. I can't see this ever being close to bad unless the DW + Favorites system ends up super clunky/annoying or another gameplay-systems just completely fails like the Radian Quest/Story. It certainly won't be due to "zomg teh attributez were renamed to perkz :nope: "

Your sources must be really correct, considering how they've said that many RPG elements are returning, like more complex leveling, and weapon mods...

After the second installment I'm not even sure I want to buy the third. Even the story took a nose dive. I mean, all the talk of the lost race (their name escapes me at the moment) in the first game, the illusion of some survivors and then in the second game they've just been turned into brain dead bugs.... The turned it into a 3rd person shooter with some very lame story line.

Where as I thought the second was a massive improvement on the first in pretty much every way... To each their own I guess *shrug*

The game play was "meh" at best in the first one and no different in the second. The story line and story telling of the second was just utter rubbish in comparison how ever. Which is what I think is important in an RPG.

That was a neat plot twist, still don't know what's wrong with it...

Nothing is wrong with the story. It was great.
But they went from a really well told story in the original to a cliche poorly told and presented story in the second IMO. I just didn't fill me with the same intrigue as the first did i guess.

I was just joking. I think what put people off most was that you were basically Shepard the shrink for your crew and you were helping them with mental issues through 40% of the game, then you are shooting for the other 60%.
And when you have done that you have to fight an oversized Terminator(what the hell?)
Besides that the Adept was made useless on higher difficulties. Not to mention the scanning of planets...
Personally I still enjoy the game but only because I "cheat" and give myself unlimited resources, so that I don't have to grind. Got to love the Save Game Editor.

But yeah, let's get back on topic now.

I am not worried or upset about dramatically restructuring the character system.

The whole skill, major/minor attributes, birthsign, class thing seemed very contrived to me in both Morrowind and Oblivion.

I haven't been following this very closely, but it appears that alot of these things still exist on one form or another, but some behind the scenes. As they should be in my opinion. As far as brithsign go specifically, I suppose with the proper perks they are not necessary. In Oblivion there were only a few birthsigns that had any lasting effect anyway, since most were either attribute based or had some spell that you can either cast once a day or duplicate the effect better yourself.

And removing brithsigns, or classes, or attributes does not necessarily mean that all characters will be the same.

So I'm glad to wait and see what they come up with. It might be bad. Hopefully it will be a vast improvement. Having a overhaul of the TES character system doesn't bother me.

Yup, there were three maybe four slightly usefull birthsigns, and even then they didn't give you anything you could manage in game anyway. Those once a day skills are COMPLETELY useless.

Whatever Bethesda does with Skyrim I think will be amazing. I mean the birthsigns never really mattered, like what soop mentioned above only like three or four mattered. I am concerned about them taking away the attributes but I am excited to see how the perks play out in Skyrim. That was the only thing from Fallout that I wanted to see more of in Elder Scrolls but I am confident that come November 11 we will all be blown away again.

What I don't understand is why the don't listen to the fans.

"We want our levitation!"

"But levitation is next to pointless."

"But it was fun!"

They do listen, but which fans do they listen to? There's always a divide with what people want, so they do what they think is best.
Making a game isn't a democracy. They need to make money.

From what I can see, they tend to ignore those fans who want TES to be a cross between SPORE and The Sims.

Aren't the constellations returning in the perks system? More than anything this should make characters unique -- besides, the original birthsigns were nigh on useless. The only sign that was vaguely useful was the Atronach (and maybe those two other mage signs to a lesser extent).

As for the removal of classes, I'm again not seeing what all the hoopla is about. The only thing they've changed with this is allowing you to level by using all your skills. Nothing to see here, folks.

I wonder why... They also ignore the people who want co-op they also ignore the people who make demands...

As they have stated in the past with oblivion.... TES will never be a multiplayer game or MMO.
